Kyle Orton, Henne & Devlin sounds like a respectable QB stable to me now, what will it cost us in pick & treasure? the negotiations procede maybe, a second or third & later round pick would seal the deal. close it Irish, close it!
now hold on Killahp, being a fan of a team is like a marriage, and every marriage has issues and some days are better then other days.
No. I took it as his opinions were always changing, which isn't bad at all. It means there's a thinking/mental process that's going on there. Isn't hating/loving your team a part of fandom? Hell, you do it as much. Isn't this the pot calling the kettle black?
Calm down bros. It was a joke. Regardless of what he drives, I said if we had to get a top QB this off season, I hoped it was him or Kolb. So, if we do go through on this, I won't be pissed but I think it has potential to be a waste. I just think Sparano and the fans are just getting desperate at his point. What happens if Orton comes in and Henne beats him out in TC? We waste 8mil this year on a backup QB, that's what happens.
It's all good GIK; I have watched him play and he's done much better in Denver than he ever looked in Chicago. I'm not sure which Orton we'll be getting, but there's gotta be something to have two different franchises dump him. And I'm fed up with using draft picks for cast off QBs and would rather gamble with a FA cast off or use a 1st round draft pick on a college QB.
The only realistic thing (I hope) is to make a trade pick for Orton conditional. I personally would make the initial pick a fourth, which would become a third or possibly a second if he plays a lot and performs to a very high level.
I would love to see where I've once said I hated this team and thought they sucked.... Sure maybe on gameday once or twice when I don't have a cool head but to sit and change opinions daily. That is ludicrous. I support Henne 100% but am in favor of trading for Orton because I think it could make us a better football team. I've had this stance for a while and have said as much and it clearly demonstrates open mindedness instead of being on the fence.
Friend Killerphins you have the right to change your mind not many people marry the first girl they kiss Kyle Orton would do the trick with Henne & Devlin completing the stable however there is many a slip between the cup & the lip not over before the fat lady sings, etc., etc. close it Irish, close it!
Orton was never developed properly in Chicago at all. Then they went out and drafted Rex Grossman which proved to be a huge mistake. They had a possible franchise QB if they would have groomed him properly. Instead they tried to manage him and it didn't allow him to grow. Sound familiar. He went to Denver in the Cutler deal because the Bears no longer needed him. Now they went younger. Orton is a good QB I just think he has been given the shaft in the NFL.
LMAO... at the talk of proper development of a young QB in a thread where most have completely given up on one early. Just thought I'd point out the irony.
Well, I'd say he was, he sat for 2 yrs behind Grossman, who Qb'd the bears into the SB, he had no place to go in Chicago until Grossman broke his ankle, he performed and was moved in the Cutler trade.
Eh, doesn't matter anyway, once the season starts everything that happened before it means absolutely nothing at all. INOW, we land Orton the dogs can bark, the caravan moved on
Let's make a deal: If you support this trade, let's not ever complain that we never try to groom a young quarterback. This is a desperate attempt at the playoffs at the expense of Henne's development. As much as people talk about patience..nobody practices it. But..yeah..we upgraded our QB.....MAYBE.
I like this trade and still support Henne 100%. In this league of unknowns you just never know what is going to happen. Losing Thigpen and gaining Orton looks like a pure upgrade at the position from where I'm sitting.
Except that Orton is not coming here to compete. he is coming here to be anointed the starter. and Henne's Dolphin career is done.
I fail to see how supporting this trade suggests that we don't want to groom a young quarterback. Chad Henne has had three years. Now if we don't get Orton, I am fine with going into the season with Chad Henne as our starter over the other available options. But I think Kyle Orton is a clear-cut improvement and if you can acquire him for a 3rd round pick or less... then you should do it.
Chad Henne has had 2 years. not three. and yes, you don;t want to groom a quarterback if you freak out over the pain, grooming one causes, and you short circuit the entire process before the third year and in reality, start sabotaging it in year 2.
I will accept this deal if the people who are against trading for a QB promise never to complain about a negative TD-INT ratio.
Wrong answer. I have been a fan of the idea of having Orton here for quite a while now. Talked about it a lot during the draft. So actually you have no clue what you are saying with this statement. You wear these misguided blinders that somehow disrupts your train of thought when it comes to my opinions or maybe they are just way too far over your head for you to acknowledge an upgrade. Orton has been a stance of mine for a while now. You need to try and comprehend these things.
Orton's stats are better than Henne's yet the Broncos were awful last year. But, is that on Orton? I didn't watch them, but it seems their defense was one of the worst in the league, while the Dolphins defense with healthy Dansby was Top 5, and young and could get better. Broncos also had no running game right?? Dont remember. Also they had injuries to WR, right? Also means that Orton is the type of QB that needs some help. Dolphins would need a strong running game, which could mean Bradshaw and then maybe a 1 or 2 year deal for Ricky, which would give two proven RBs and a rookie. Or bring back Ricky and Ronnie, try and give the O-Line a boost in FA and actually run the ball more. Ricky averaged 4.2 YPC, should've gotten more chances, especially in the red zone. And that pretty much also applies to Henne, no way the Dolphins can win without a Top 5 running game, which is why I think Ricky should be brought back along with Bradshaw or Ronnie. Thomas is there too, but would you really want to go into a season with one proven running back and a rookie with Henne or Orton starting? I'd take 2 proven RBs and a rookie.
If you think I have freaked out about Chad Henne, then I suggest you look over my posts the past year. I have been one of the few people who supported Henne around this area. But I think highly enough of Orton to want to trade for him. I don't want to trade for Orton because of Chad Henne. I want to trade for Orton because of Kyle Orton.
yeah..the idea is to get to the playoffs so Ireland and Sparano can save their jobs. Whoopee. I want my Sparano T-Shirt for opening night. In essence, that is what this season is about. Saving a couple of jobs.
well there you go. The cycle will continue for the rest of time and every single person in this forum will be in a box before the Dolphins sniff a super bowl. 8-8 FOREVER!!!
That is not true. Most guys do not succeed in year 1. Doesn't matter anyway. The cycle has re-started. prediction: We go 9-7 and make the playoffs...lose by 2 touchdowns in the first round and we will all be here next year talking about "grooming" a young QB...AGAIN.
Yes, much better than 4-12 with Brandon Marshall giving interviews saying how he wants to be traded to a team with a QB thats actually starting-caliber, and players skipping practice and showing up late because they know theres no chance of winning with Henne. Thats obviously the better route to take.
I couldn't have said it any better myself. I too still have faith in Chad Henne but I also think Kyle Orton is fully capable of helping us win games.
there you have it. we have no interest in building anything. it is always about THIS YEAR..every year.
Schefter thinks the deal will get done between Dolphins and Broncos. Just commented on "Outside the Lines" on ESPN.
No, I have interest, which is precisely why I don't want to tell 52 guys that they can take the season off.
