Digitimes is fairly reliable, but they're going with this as a rumor, so you should too.

If PS4 production begins in December, then it would likely be out a few months later, and would probably be preceded by an announcement and unveiling at TGS Autumn. This does jive with Sony's history: the PS2 came out March 4, 2000 in Japan and October 26, 2000 in North America. The PS3 had more of a worldwide release in November 2006, however. But if they really plan to ship 20 million units in one year, they need to get it out in every region as early as possible.

And don't forget, Sony may be using off the shelf components, which would result in a cheaper console. Maybe a $300 launch price?

I'm really not buying it at this point, but if they could somehow merge the kinect idea with the move peripherals they could make some sweet stuff I'm sure (and it'd be a lot more accurate than just one or the other).

At minimum, I buy that a. there's a PS4 almost ready to go b. which comes with some form of motion control out of the box.

I think this is a year too early, though.

    I agree a year too early (at least). That's why I don't buy "a". :P

There's nothing preventing the existence of final or near final hardware to be released later. In fact, that's usually how it happens: dev kits are sent out as much as 18 months ahead of retail release and use prototype hardware. I'd expect Sony and Microsoft to both be in the process of finalizing specs and working out manufacturing and supply orders. The biggest obstacle to a release probably isn't the state of the hardware, but the desire to keep making money from current hardware.

Well I think getting the jump on Sony really helped the 360 establish itself. Maybe Sony is hoping to get the jump on Microsoft this go-around.

If it's in the neighborhood of $300 I'll buy it the day it comes out. If it is over $400 I'll wait for the price drop.

I have mixed feelings about. I think 400 isn't too much. But I'm not sure a ps4 is really something I want. I'm quite content with my ps3. I don't play a ton of games. I watch blu rays and do a lot of streaming. Maybe if they included a better flash player so I could use something like 'hbo go' I would consider it, but that's something they should be doing anyway

I would have to blown away by it before even considering buying it within a year of its release

I'm extremely satisfied with the current gen... not going to be looking at upgrading at launch this time around personally.

I think a better Flash player, a better dashboard and a better web browser would rock.

Wait, they could do that with a decent update. The current web browser just SUCKS.

I don't game a whole lot right now either. I guess I'm waiting for some new game releases. The PS3 is a great media pig though. Hooked up to an external hard drive it's gold.

Sony is terrible at software. Terrible. They're historically a hardware company and take the view that it's the hardware that matters, software is secondary. That's counter to current tech trends, but that's their core belief, and it's not changing any time soon.

What would be nice is if they allowed third parties to write PS3 apps and distributed those through the PS Store. I'm sure someone would post up a good Webkit-based browser ASAFP.
