and he is KILLING it right now at the US Open from Bethesda, Maryland (at the Congressional). He is currently 14 under going into tomorrow's final round with an EIGHT shot lead. All this after the organizers lengthened the course in the hopes of making it challenging. Par at a US open is typically a good score, mind you. The golfers have been aided by receptive greens (and rough), thanks to some rainstorms that have moved thru the area the last few days.

But it's Rory's to lose, no doubt about it. The 22 year old from Northern Ireland has been playing on another level this week. His ability to sky the ball, have it land on the green at a dead stop, and then spin back is rare. Setting records along the way at every turn, he is due to score the lowest 72 holes at a US Open and very likely with the largest margin we've ever seen. It's a little fitting that Tiger isn't here. After what happened at the Masters (he shot a final round 80 after leading going into the final round), the only way Rory loses is if he implodes on the course, misses his tee time or signs the wrong score on his card. It's hard not to pull for him after what happened at Augusta and how impressively he carried himself in the press conference afterwards.

But I'm pulling for him because he is the next great one... Good Luck Rory!!

All due respect to McIlroy, but this has to be the easiest course I've ever seen. There was no rain in the area for about two weeks before this past week, which is why the rough is not nearly as long as they'd want to make it.

I was out there fri morning for about the first 10 holes of Rory's and Phil's round. It was early enough to where the crowds weren't bad and I was able to follow them. Being able to see McIlroy break that record has to be one of the coolest things I've ever seen live.

Cool, I hope you weren't one of the guys walking across the fairway behind him as he made that eagle, oblivious to what was going on

As for the course, It's not a typical US Open that is for sure... still doesn't take anything away from what Rory is doing though in that he is 8 shots up on 2nd place. The scoring in today's round IMO was the best of the three so far. They actually moved up some tees to make it easier today (the par 5 5th? moved up 50 yards or something). But the Tiger Woods apologists are already saying his performace at Pebble was better because the course was tougher. eh whatever.

Mmmmm, easy course? He's 14 under with a 8 stroke lead. If the course is so easy, then everybody would be at least 10 under.
The USGA has to be hating this with a passion. Rory decides to skip the Players. I'm loving this, last year it was G-Mac, this year it's Rory. Let's go NI, take the US trophy overseas!

I agree that the rough may not be up to US Open standards, but again if it was a easy course, then why are there not more players at -10?
I do like Rory, I also like G-Mac. Those two are my favorite golfers.

How'd you like the Ryder Cup last year? I'm English originally, but now a US citizen, tough to root for either side over the other... but that was just epic golf. That Ryder Cup theme music from NBC was in my head for weeks.

Born and raised here in this country, mom is Irish, dad is German. Not wanting to turn this thread into politics, but I cannot stand the government here in the US. Because of that, I'm rooting more and more for the athletes from Ireland and Germany.
I will always support our troops here in the US, but I never will support the scum bags in Washington.
I loved last years Ryder cup.

He put his foot on the competition's throat and never let go. That is what I call a colossal massive choke.

    good stuff!!

That shot on 10 was awesome... I thought he aced it. Kinda felt bad for YE Yang, whenever he hit a great shot, 4 or 5 feet from the hole, Rory would hit it even closer.
