Kotaku is liveblogging some sort of Nintendo-Ubisoft joint press conference. Ubi’s announcing five games for the Wii U: an Assassin’s Creed title, Ghost Recon online, Raving Rabbids, a new franchise named Killer Freaks, and an unnamed multi-sport game.
Still need to play ACB. It looks like (in this video anyway) that enemies still surround you, but attack one at a time Walker Texas Ranger style....is that accurate? Or do they let enemies swarm you? I liked AC2, but that kind of took me out. Too easy to fight a large group.
Enemies will occasionally attack you while you’re dealing with someone else, but not often. Usually you’re fighting so many guys that it would be unfair if they could all swarm you, and besides, you should be chain killing (new feature in ACB, you kill one guy and can immediately kill the next guy, and on and on), so you shouldn’t really be caught in a one on one situation in the first place.
Wii U controller size comparison. Shame it doesn’t include the 360 Duke controller. Also, apparently Nintendo is not planning on selling extra controllers at retail. WTF?
I guess I have to play the Wii U hands on before I complain about the controller. I remember thinking that the controller of the first X-Box and Dreamcast were ridculous, but they weren't half-bad.
They aren't selling extra controllers because you can only use one Wii U controller with the console at a time.
Assassin’s Creed Revelations release date: November 15. And the Wii U might ditch friend codes. (Nice job doing that with the 3DS, Nintendo…)
Aside from the console probably not being powerful enough to handle more than 2 Wii U controller at once (if it could even do 2), a controller probably costs over $100 and I guarantee Nintendo doesn't want people seeing that price tag out there.
I’d be shocked if the controllers at retail cost less than $150. The BOM for that thing is probably just as large as the console itself, if not more. If this thing comes in at $300 at launch, it’ll be due to the parts Nintendo is using getting even cheaper over the next 18 months, not because of a minimalist design.
On another forum, someone pointed out how this is basically a giant DS. The controller is the bottom half of the DS, and the top half is your TV. I thought that was a pretty good analogy. I can't see Nintendo pricing it at more than $300, but I also just don't see games being a big enough upgrade (if any at all) over the 360/PS3 at this point to even justify getting it. Certainly not at a price anywhere near $300 at least.
In a way, that’s a brilliant analogy. At minimum, Nintendo is opting for touch control over motion control. I think Nintendo is sort of conceding that the Wii was a terrible idea. I was calling this the Dreamcast II prior to its reveal and I think that still holds true. The graphical capability will probably be better than what we have now, but I think the PS4 and 720 (or whatever Microsoft calls the Xbox 3) will leapfrog the Wii U significantly. In fact, considering how much this controller is going to cost and how Nintendo is downplaying the console and focusing on the controller, they probably cut corners with the console’s hardware capability to hit a specific price point.
In many instances though it'll be like how multi-plat games look marginally better on one console vs the other right now. Yea, 1st party games might look a lot better, but even for that I don't know that I could justify getting it. On a similar note, I'm considering using Dolphin to play many of my Wii games. And I agree with you, with how much they are focusing on the controller they probably are cutting some corners on the console.
I could be wrong, but the Wii U sounds like an unmitigated disaster. I'm going to go out on a ledge and predict this is the last console we'll ever see from Nintendo. I'll only miss Smash Bros and Zelda. Maybe they'll do the Sega thing and develop those for use on the consoles that survive.
I considered that the other day as well, but it seems like there are way more "Nintendo kids" out there than there were Sega fans who will always buy what Nintendo puts out. So I really have no clue if this will be the last console or not.
Not happening this year. Was never announced. Rockstar wasn’t at E3. Very true. Just read Kotaku for proof of this.
Instead of reading through 8 pages, I'll just ask, did you post the G4video of the new Elder Scrolls.....cause holy ****!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I posted a seven minute gameplay video. Not sure if that’s the same one. Honestly, I’m not into Elder Scrolls at all, or PCRPGs in general (besides Fallout), so I didn’t pay too much attention as to which specific trailer it is.
I use the Smart Quotes feature of OS X. Converts apostrophes (') to correct quote marks. Tapatalk chokes on that, apparently. I've turned it off for the forums now.
