Finally. Best part of this article isn’t the release date, it’s the Grabbag theme playing in the background.
Game of the year. Game of the decade. Game of the millennium. The world won’t end in 2012 because Duke still has awards to win.
So. Gearbox rented out a Vegas strip club and invited the gaming press and some fan club members to play a beta build of Duke Nukem Forever. Yeah, I’m jealous too. Most of the previews are pretty negative, because game journalists hate anything that harkens back to an era before they were hired. But Worthplaying delivers. Be sure to check out the screenshots. Like this one.
The prevailing train of thought among those who’ve written previews is that barely anyone today knows who Duke is, and so there’s no nostalgia factor to drive sales in the first place. Which is BS.
Go to any prominent site and you’ll see a Duke Nukem Forever preview with that very train of thought in mind. Gaming journalism right now reminds me of movie critics from the ‘70s and ‘80s, totally out of touch with what their readers think and want.
No I didnt mean what you said was bull****, I meant to say that line of thinking is bull****. This is the "Balls of Steel Edition":
I got that, and agreed. I was just pointing out that it’s the conventional wisdom right now among game journalists, which is why I say that they’re out of touch with their readership. $90 on Amazon, free shipping. Already preordered.
DNF: Balls of Steel edition (the preorder package you see above) is currently #2 among all video games on Amazon. It was #6, then #3, now #2. It’ll probably hit #1 before the end of the day. This is the PC version, by the way. So much for PC gaming being dead.
When you posted that first trailer I about fell out of my chair. I mean "Duke Nukem" is coming is nothing new...but to actually SEE it?! Duke ****ing Nukem! That's just too damn awesome to ignore! He was slightly before my time (I was on the young side, but the biggest hurdle was a gaming computer at that point in my family) but I played the hell out of it at my buddy's house, and played it on N64 I believe. Saw that video, DL'd the song, and am considering the collector's edition (could care less, but the chips, cards, and dice are pretty cool). Still can't believe it...Duke ****ing Nukem..... DO IT BABY! Edit: I'm PC all the way on this one. Love the PS3, but can't wait for the community to mod the **** out of this!
Okay, so Duke got delayed a month to June 14, but to be fair this is its first actual delay in game history; its release date was “when it’s done” ever since 1997. In the meantime, have a video.
I need to save money, but I think I need to get this...if nothing more, than to promote the greatness that it is. It's like AVP...got it knowing there was a good chance that it would be subpar, but did it to support a great franchise...in the hope that someday I'll get to see the franchise meet it's potential... Do you think I can play this one with my four year old son in the room? Keep in mind, he tends to repeat everything he sees.
What the hell. One more.
Launch trailer. Oh. I seem to be all out of gum. Curious.
Blood and Gore... Intense Violence... Strong Language... Mature Humor... Nudity... Strong Sexual Content... Use of Drugs and Alcohol... Where do I sign up?
The Gearbox forums are “down” in the sense that they can’t be accessed, but they’ve been replaced by the Nukem logo. Demo could be out as soon as 12:01 AM.
I am downloading Duke. He is here. I have to be up at 4:30, but screw it. This is more important than sleep.
