I've never seen the guy play- Abeleine Christian or whatwever. But I will say that the highlights not only show straight line speed, bud suddenness and some shiftiness, too. And that's good. Also I heard something about a 40" vertical- good stuff. It looked in the highlights like he caught the ball pretty well, too. ps The Browns just picked Owen Marecic- not a need position player, but I would have liked to have had him on our team. Quality guy, and if nothing else depth at two positions. Smart, uber character and one hard nosed, hard working player. Still wondering when Herzlich will go, Mario Harvey and John Clay, too.
I love the pick too .He has Ted Ginn type of speed but he has better hands and he is a better football player. I was one of the few who regretted that TG was traded because I thought he would be able to stretch the field even as a decoy. We really looked like a plodding and slow team after that because defenses were bunching up closer to the line of scrimmage . This pick makes up for it if he can stay healthy.
I swear to God this guy is the football 180 degree opposite of Ted Ginn. At least from the fans' reaction so far.
Ted Ginn would have been loved if he was a 4th round pick. Gates would be hated if Miami picked him at 15.
Wrong. Because at the end of the day, Ginn played like a p***y, regardless of what round he was picked in. Being the 9th overall pick just made it that much worse. Dude had great speed and was a vertical threat, but overall he was a liability. If they kept him and just had him run fly patterns and did kickoff returns- fine. But the guy was just an inefficient morale killer as an every down player. I said it then, I'll say it again- we should have taken Dwayne Bowe.
You mean RIGHT. The only morale he killed were fans who wanted him to be the 9th pick of the draft. If he was a fourth rounder, most people wouldn't care if he was a ****** because they wouldn't expect him to be different. If a fourth round pick becomes a decent speed receiver in the NFL people would like him.
We all have our opinions, but Ginn pretty much sucked regardless of what round he was drafted in. His hands were lame, he had no physicality, he sucked as a punt returner, and he played weak. Here's a refresher that tells the story pretty well as to why he was run out of town: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZYSxJgjjJFc His 2010 stats for San Francisco last year: 12 receptions 163 yards 1 touchdown Ginn's cowardly play sucked the life out of Dolphins fans. Besides his crappy play, that imo was what got him thrown out of town and also why he couldnn't command more than a 5th round pick in return. Speed will only take you so far. And although I found Bob Kuechenberg to be a bit out of line on the subject (in terms of speaking so negatively of Ginn in public), here's what Kooch and OJ McDuffie had to say about Ginn: A recent gathering of several former Miami Dolphins players turned into an opportunity to rip the team’s 2006 first-round draft pick, Ted Ginn. “He’s an embarrassment and a coward,” the great Dolphins offensive lineman Bob Kuechenberg said of Ginn, per Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald. “He’s got alligator arms. It’s sad. I don’t even know that he has the ability. I haven’t seen it.” Former Dolphins receiver O.J. McDuffie said he sees Ginn as a good athlete, but not a good wide receiver. “Teddy can run, but how much of a football player is he?” McDuffie said. “You either have it or not. Teddy is not as astute a player as I thought he would be. I’ve seen him go down when nobody is around.” Other former Dolphins, including Mercury Morris, Jim Kiick and Mark Duper, said Ginn’s problem is mental. Morris said he’d like to talk to Ginn, and Duper said he reached out to Ginn and offered to give him some advice on how to be a professional wide receiver, but that Ginn never responded to his messages. Ginn has disputed reports that the Dolphins’ coaching staff demoted him, saying instead that the coaches have simply given him a pep talk about getting better. If it’s true that the Dolphins’ coaches haven’t benched Ginn, then they’ve got the support of the great former Dolphins coach Don Shula, who said it’s too early to give up on Ginn, and the team should keep giving him opportunities. “If you have a guy with that talent, you’ve got to give him every opportunity and the time and confidence to do it,” Shula said. “He’s got all the tools, but he’s got to start making those plays he’s capable of. Some of the things haven’t been his fault.” But while Shula thinks criticism of Ginn is misguided, most Miami fans seem to side with Shula’s former players: There aren’t many people left in Miami who have patience for Ted Ginn. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...erg-calls-ginn-an-embarrassment-and-a-coward/ I'd say that Shula was wrong in his assessment of Ginn, but that's just my opinion.
I guess we will never agree. If Ginn was a 7th round pick he would be an excellent pick. Even just for his ability to once in a blue moon take a kick off back to the house.
We can agree on that- Ginn would have been a good 7th round pick in that he did make some contributions. So I'll retract my earlier statement and make that concession. The guy did have a few great KO returns and I loved that game winning TD catch vs the Jets. Regardless, he wasn't the speed receiver that this team needed and because of that, and because he was a high 1st rd pick, the team and fans turned on him. But the guy, nonetheless, sucked as a WR and punt returner. 7th rd picks- they usually don't make the team. 4th rd pick- yeah, you would like to see some production. But Ginn- with the combination of poor production and playing like such a p****- it was just too much, and made worse by his high draft status and expectations. But he sucked. Bottom line.
Wow, that video makes me sick. As well as the part that says Ginn didn't respond to any of Duper's messages...Guy was trying to help you, f'n clown. Ginn just didn't have that physical mentality needed. He was in the NFL, had access to their weight training programs, eating regimes through their cafeteria's, yet I can bench 225 lbs twice as much as he can...
