http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs...-being-a-leader/2011/05/10/AFrLyOgG_blog.html Well, now we know what happened, I'd wonder if the same thing happened with Pat White?
If they are starting Beck the Skins probably figure he gives them the best shot at getting Luck in 2012.
Beck is a better QB than Henne in my opinion. neither are franchise quality but Beck ultimately will be the better back-up.
I would have much rather prefered sticking with Beck over drafting White and Henne with those two second rounders. We could have added to other needs and been in same boat right now if not a better situation.
I disagree except for the White pick. Who would we have drafted instead? No one until Kevin Smith after Henne made an impact. We wouldn't have gone RB. Cliff Avril? Unnecessary. Jermichael Finley and Mario Manningham are the only two players between Henne's pick and the fourth round that have done anything in the NFL. Besides, John Beck is a bad QB. Even in 2009, Loadholt would have been the only good pick in the second round. We weren't on the Mike Wallace train..unless you wanted us to tank so we could get some high picks.
Im not sure how you came to this conclusion. Watch any film on both of them. Beck had some talent but showed no confidence and was even more inconsistent than Henne. Its not even close, Henne is hands down better. Henne may not be awesome but he is clearly better.
Beck never had an honest chance, they threw him to the wolves. Henne had too many chances & has put us in the situation we're in today. their arm strength was about the same. accuracy & leadership go to Beck. the killer was simply that Parcells drafted Henne. the end of story. both will wind up back-ups in the NFL with Beck being the better of the two.
Here is the John Beck story, in pictures: (Please note, below you will find actors emulating the great John Beck
Based on what? How many chances has he had in less than two years? Do you take a hit before you post? Also, what "situation" are we in. We have a young talented defense. On paper we got better on offense. Two straight years we were in the Playoff Hunt down to the last 3 weeks.
Yup, from 1-15 to division champs and the greatest season we have had as fans of this long suffering team since the mid 90's... Yup, who needed that season, we were much better off going 4-12 with John Beck..
Yup.. And we've seen plenty of brave QB's grow scared. Exhibit A: Chad Henne. If Henne can regain that swagger and confidence he will do just fine.
not going to trash Henne. he's all we've got & most of us got enough of that last year I'm going to hope he steps up his game & wins the start, proving his detractors wrong no more excuses, please no more excuses we go nowhere in this NFL without the Franchise QB. Beck is no longer an issue in Miami.
Beck has the physical skills but he's the kind that needs to know the offense inside and out and adjust to the speed of the game before he gets thrown in there. You saw that in college. People watching his early games would have called him "scared" or a "career back-up". But in his third year there he exploded. His third and fourth seasons he looked better than Henne ever did at Michigan. If he's ever going to succeed in the NFL, he'll need to be given that time. He's going to need to be groomed like Aaron Rodgers was. Some people say there's no time for that in the NFL, but if you could do it over and draft Rodgers even knowing you'd have to sit him for several seasons, I'm sure everybody would do it. Taking the time to groom a QB like the NFL used to do before FA doesn't take anymore time than picking the wrong QBs repeatedly. Cameron had that plan then panicked when the losses piled up. For Beck's sake I hope he gets his chance with the Redskins.
wow, could not disagree more. Henne will rise to "average" level QB in NFL this year (15th-20th range). I never saw anything from Beck to show me he could start for any team in the NFL. But, it will be funny if Shanahan decides to start Beck and they lose every single game.
I just spit out my lunch! John Beck sucks total ***! Right when I thought you were coming to your senses on a few things then you put this nonsense up.
Total garbage time. Last game of the season. That game didn't count for a damn thing. People defending John Beck as an angle against Henne...... Fuggin' ridiculous.
Yep, Beck was always good at that sort of thing, when it came time to play, or even practice, he was not so good.
There were plenty of players we could have drafted at virtually every position that could have made us better. Henne and White selections gave us nothing Beck didn't offer already, in terms of how they produced and how we prepared them.
Beck is smarter and has much better footwork. I think Beck is more accurate as well, but neither threw well enough yet to say that for sure. If Beck had been brought along the right way he'd be a decent player right now. The same is true for Henne, but since we drafted Beck first I'd rather have stuck with him and drafted elsewhere in those two 2nd rounds (White / Henne). If Henne doesn't show dramatic improvement, he will be to Sparano what Fiedler was to Wanny. His undoing.
Or even better , releasing Beck and not drafting either White or Henne , or least draft henne later. Beck never was the right choice , much like White , imo.
So was that because Beck can't play or because his coaching was sub par? or both? I can't help but wonder.
Thing is, Cam Cameron jettisoned him from the Ravens, and he has not appeared in a regular season game since he played with us, To me, that says what the NFL thinks about Beck. As for poor coaching, his fumbling was atrocious, that was on him.
he had not chance to start for the Ravens. How do you know the Ravens didn't do him a favor to get him to a place where he would have a chance to start?
It wouldn't shock me if Beck has a decent season for the Redskins next year. He struck me as talented and intelligent then, still does now. I think that changing his throwing motion, Parcells pressure and bringing in Pennington/Henne did a number on him. In some ways a victim of circumstance. That being said, it was disturbing to watch him crumble a few years back when he played, iirc especially against the Bengals. If he was the #2 on our roster (in the absence of a Carson Palmer being signed) and was given a chance to compete against Henne and maybe Thigpen, I'd be fine with that. I think that he got a raw deal down here. Dude had some talent, bottom line. And I know that most disagree with me on this one.
That would completely shock me. I expect the Redskins to start him at some point, and I fully expect Beck to look horrible. Not just because he's below average, but because their team stinks, and IMO, is getting worse, not better. Deer-in-headlights all over again for Beck. Now, if Beck was the backup in Green Bay or New England or New Orleans, then he could be an average QB to get fans excited about.
Friend Killerphins: Be nice you wretched little creature. no need to flame an honest opinion. Neither Beck nor Henne were franchise material in my book, two sides of the same coin, they are back-up currency. Having said that, Henne is still a Dolphin & my hope is that he proves me wrong this year. No more excuses. every girl knows it's very impolite to spit, always better to swallow
Personally, I hope John Beck rips the league a new on this year. He was told he was to sit a year, and then thrown into the fray with minimal warning or preparation. I find he was foully forced into a feeding frenzy of furious fans fearing fully feckless football failure by a flaccid and fearful front office.
But can you name a single player picked after them in the second round, that we would have actually picked, that would have helped in any way over Henne?
Good points. But still, the guy threw with velocity, accuracy, moved well and was cereberal. His size bothered me- amazing how a guy who was 6-2, 215 could look so small out there. But he's put on a bit of size now. I think that he has a shot- his team blowing, that's a different story. They passed on Gabbert and Ponder and have nothing else in the cupboard. Just a guess but I think that the Skins see promise in him, or at least potential. ps Ohio Fanatic, I went to IU.
I agree it may have actually been the worst thing that happened to us. We should have stunk again in 2008 and gotten our QB in that draft.
There were plenty of players we could have drafted at virtually every position that could have made us better
