I'll start by appeasing all of the half empties by freely admitting I'm an optimist by nature, and completely enjoy discussing the high end possibilities open to us on draft day.

I want to see Irish make two trade back moves tonight. We can hit a homerun and really improve this team today. Here's how I see it happening.

Trade back again with San Diego this year. They will move up 3 spots to grab an OL or DE they covet and we'll get their pick at 18 and their later of two 2nd round picks. They have to jump up in front of a few teams to get the guy they want.

Hopfully from there we can trade back from 18 overall again and pick up another 2nd rounder.

If that happens, we can draft Ingram if he slides back to late round 1, and one of the QB's we like (Mallett, Ponder, or Keap) with our first round 2 selection. Then go innterior OL on the second of our 2nd rounders.

After we make the SD trade, the most likely trade partner IMO is Pittsburgh.

We get alot better if we are active trading back.

It's true this aggressive plan will take alot of work, but SD wants up a few spots (that is all So Cal radio is talking about today) and the Steelers want Pouncey to play next to his brother in Pitt. NE also wants Pouncey. Both teams know we might very well draft him regardless of if at 15 or 18... Both teams have multiple picks. Normally I wouldn't expect Pitt to trade up, but in this case I think they have a special desire for this OL.

If Mallett slides, which could be signalled on pick #1 overall if Carolina doesnt selection Cam Newton, we could end up with:
    - RB Ingram
    - QB Mallett
    - Best interior lineman in late 2nd round

Lastly I'll add I think we can skip a player like Pouncey because our strength in evaluation has to be evaluating OL. Thet's our HC former position coaching and as a player. We SHOULD be able to find a starting OL in round 2-3

So Cal Sports Radio is all over how the Chargers are interested in trading up again with one of 3-4 teams. They are also reporting the Steelers and Patriots are "aggressively" trying to get up in front of each other to draft Pouncey. Normally this would surprise me regarding Pittsburgh because they typically aren't much of a trade up team, but they want the Pouncey brothers playing together the next dozen years on their OL.

Trade back Irish! Then do it again

In theory I'm a fan of this strategy. The problem to me is that I'm not sure Mallett lasts until the 2nd round. If we do not end up with either Mallett or Ponder, I would be disappointed.

I'm of the exact same though. I do absolutely believe we could get Ponder in round 2, but maybe not late round 2. I'm leanig towards the thinking that some teams drafting early go with defense. Inparticular, I think the top WR, CB, DT, and LB will be drafted before the second QB goes... I think the Panthers pick is really going to have an impact early and screw alot of draft boards if they don't go Cam Newton.

I see top 10 picks having alot of Defense and WR.

I see the next 10 picks having QB's and OL.

I see the last part of round 1 a mixed bag of positions, but mostly RB's and QB's.

I would just sit tight. The team's talent level has gone up in critical positions year after year. I know it sounds like a dangerous proposition, but three more years of Ireland continuing to do reasonably well in drafts and Miami would probably one of the three most talented teams in the league. This regime is starting to remind me of Baltimore's in the late 90s early 2000s where they'd find some gems, hit on their firsts, and once in a while hit in the middle rounds. Gotta give it time. Sparano I don't care about. The talent infusion though has been promising.

Don't need to spend ridiculous amounts to get some speed. You have that third and fourth rounder to add a speed WR and a third-down back. That's plenty of investment for speed.

We talked about this yesterday, and I could entirely see it happening, especially since we have a trade history with SD.

    Rumors from Phinsider:
•I'm hearing that the possibility of the Miami Dolphins drafting a quarterback in round one is contingent upon being able to trade down from the 15th overall pick and add a second rounder or an additional third rounder. No trade down, then no quarterback - or, at least, that's what they want us to think.
•Chris Mortensen says the Patriots are talking with the Cowboys about moving up to pick nine, targeting Cal DE Cameron Jordan. The Pats have the ammo to pull it off, too.
•Armando Salguero confirms what we've been hearing from other sources - that TE Kyle Rudolph is on Miami's board and a possibility at pick 15. And like I said on Twitter, if that happens, I will not be a happy guy.

In theory I agree, but this is a bad first round for that. Both wideouts will likely be gone, and Ingram while solid, may not be with a 15. I wouldn't mind a trade down with the Chargers, but I don't know about a double.

Trading down isn't always the best deal - last year imo we would have been much better served by staying and drafting Thomas.

A trade down with the Chargers from #15 to #18 will net you a 3rd round pick. The chargers have 2 picks in the 3rd. #82 & #89. We would get #89 (and maybe a 7th rounder if they had one). The most logical trade after that is someone who wants to possibly get in the front of the O lineman run that should start around #19. Again value for the Eagles #23 to move up to #18 is a third rounder. The only way I see the Fins getting a 2nd round pick is if someone wants to move way up, 8+ spots.

They do the San Diego trade and then perhaps they do the Steelers trade. Then they draft a 6-7 walking cannon. Heck if no other team wants to pick him, let's be bold enough to go get him. Then you draft a couple RBs, a speed WR, and a TE.

the key to a RD 2 pick lies with Pouncey and PIT .... simple as that really .... who knows if their interest is a feint, so that they can tell his brother that they 'tried' or that they are honestly interested. You just never know .... what most infer is that they do need an OL, and won't pick again til late 2 -- so by then, all the 'best' OL will be gone.

Could be the case. There are other teams though that may want to trade up. All I know is that the kid with the best arm in the draft is getting hammered with bad press right before the draft from out of nowhere. Absolutely out of nowhere. It was never this red hot bad until the last few days. Miami's trying to milk getting a franchise QB.

Easily imo. Oddrick barely played, Dobbins is terrible. Misi is good, but not worth passing on Thomas for.

Excellent, this way we can let McD walk for nothing, and make sure our second rounder Merling is sitting on the bench instead of having the next Ed Reed.

Not only did Ireland not bunt, he let the ball hit him in the face and limped to First.
