Not going to happen. I hope I'm wrong. But Martin has a bit of a past so Shalala will pass. :pity:

Whatever happened to getting third and fourth chances? :wink2:

Maybe enough coaches will say no, so they have to go after Martin

Unfortunately I think you're right. It's absolutley ridiculous though IMO. His past is not very bad at all.

According to CBSsportsline Cane are in discussions with Jim Larranaga of George Mason and he is apparently their top choice.

Very interesting and out of the blue.

We know they're probably seeking someone who won't leave to go to another school but man, hiring a guy that might be in a rocking chair in a few years?

    Excellent coach but he's 61...

The way I see it is, who cares about age. Who cares if he may only be here a few years. If he's a great coach, really, who cares, because he can make this program relevant, which will make a good/great coach want to coach us when he does leave. It's a much better choice than going with a younger retread head coach, or taking chances on unproven assistants. I'll take an oldie like Larranaga, Larry Brown, or Knight over pretty much anybody we have a chance at except Frank Martin or Chris Mooney.

Miami is offering twice as much as he makes now. George Mason will most likely come close to the same money and he will wide up staying imo.

Jim Larranaga to Miami is now official. Great hire, and a great start to Eichorst's career as Miami's AD to get a guy like this.

A very good hire IMO. I still would have prefered Martin, but that just wasn't going to happen apparently. You'd like to see a younger coach brought in, but this guy can flat out coach. Assuming Johnson comes back this team will have enough talent to make the tournament next year and with a coach like Larranaga there's no reason to believe they won't. I'm curious to see what kind of a recruiter he is although it seems to me that actual coaching might be more important in college basketball than recruiting.

Great day for Hurricanes baseball beating UNC twice to go 2-0 in the series. Now 13th in the nation in RPI with another game vs. UNC coming up, and 2 huge series vs. FSU and UVA as well.

GMU assistant Michael Huger follows Larranaga to Miami. Another NYC native. Also, Larranaga is in talks with getting former NBA All-Star PG Kenny Anderson in here as in assistant.

Our improvement in assistants may be better than our improvement at Head Coach. Caputo is regarded as one of the best mid-major assistant coaches out there, and was interviewed as a HC candidate at Kentucky and Florida. Huger is another very good assistant who also got an interview for a HC position for a very good basketball program (Villanova). It's also expected that Eric Konkol will follow Larranaga to Miami, he too is a good assistant. And then there's Kenny Anderson. Would certainly be an interesting hire. He's gotten offers to be an assistant at other schools, but never became one mostly due to not having a college degree, but he recently got a degree from St. Thomas University in Miami. He too is a NYC guy. And a former PG at that.

Miami will finally start recruiting true PG's, instead of the combo guards that Haith loved so much and I'm very happy with that.

A great get. If we can get him, Ricardo Louis, and Stefon Diggs to go with Jontavious Carter, that would fill one of our weakest positions on the team though I suspect Ricardo Louis will end up at safety.

In basketball recruiting news, Coach L and 2011 recruit SG Bishop Daniels met last night, and Daniels has decided to recommit to the U.

Most in the draft of any team I believe? Just goes to show you how bad the coaching has been here. Most of those players were underachievers. If Al Golden can get (7 I think) players into the NFL at Temple, 2 of them going in the first 2 rounds this year, and 2 more expected to be drafted high next year, I really like the direction of our program. Golden can develop talent, he's already proven he can recruit, can't wait to see how good of a gameday coach he really is.

Seantrel and Lamar Miller definitely. Storm Johnson has Edgerrin James written all over him, and I expect him to blow up once he gets his carries. There's also Marcus Forston. Kid has 1st round talent no doubt. With Golden here, maybe he'll finally get the coaching to develop that into more than just talent. Same can be said for Olivier Vernon. We have some very good talent on the O-Line. Not just Henderson, but Linder and Washington as well. Maybe Bunche can turn into something also. Doubt Telemaque or Ray Ray get into the 1st round. Ray Ray has the best chance, but unless he improves a lot in coverage, won't happen. Then there's Sean Spence. As good as he is, may be too small to be considered a 1st rounder.

Yeah, Forston actually played well in the 2nd half of last season. He could really make a case if he has a monster year next season.

And I forgot about Washington....he's one of the few good players from the '08 NW class.
