Problem is some team in the top15 will agree with you and will take him high in the draft. I have a feeling we'll have to get in front of Washington to ensure we get him. Hell Cincy might take him at 4 and blow up the whole plan.

I don't think Washington would, Shannahan is big on mobile QBs. If they go anyone it will be Locker, or perhaps a trade up to try and snag Gabbert/Newton.

I think Mallet will be there at 15 and I think we will pass on him, and we'll be talking about him like all the other Qb mistakes we've made 3 years from now. The only knock on this guy is 'character' concerns..... I have not read anything that explains what these concerns are. We've had him in for a visit right? I hope we are taking him seriously, I like him way, way more than I did Henne when he first came out...and I liked Henne as a prospect. I think a Qb rotation of Mallet and Henne gives us two young arms with a lot of potential at the most vital position on the team, I think we'd be smart to sure up the Qb position for 10 years in this draft if the possibility presents itself.

I agree. The debate this front office and coaching staff will have over the next 11-12 days should be interesting. IMO, I think they definitely want a quarterback and are looking at three right now as potential high round, possibly first round picks. What's interesting is that the three I think they are looking at are contrasting styles, and it is difficult to get a good feel for what Jeff Ireland and Tony Sparano actually want. The fact that these guys are all Parcells guys, you would think they would naturally gravitate towards the big, physical drop back passer who can play action and throw it deep down the field. However, Tony Sparano talks at the end of the season like he wants a more mobile guy relative to his ability to extend plays. Someone like Aaron Rodgers and Tony Romo. Then, you have this staff's past interest in the spread option and the expansion of the single wing stuff they wanted to run when they drafted Pat White.

I think the three guys they are looking at right now are Ryan Mallett, Christian Ponder, and Colin Kaepernick. If they feel comfortable with Mallett, I think they might take him. Christian Ponder fits more of what Tony has talked about though. He's a cerebral guy who can move around in the pocket to buy time. Kaepernick is the developmental guy who they could use in the spread packages while they try to develop his skills. Of the three, Ponder has the least amount of risk. Mallett is the best pure passer. Kaepernick is the most athletic and the most likely to be a bust.

Iam gonna go out on a limb and say that the mallett interest is a smokescreen to get a team to move up and make us an offer when its our time to pick and if hes available.

didn't you mention a while ago that you thought that Ckap had some skills that interested you, I remember that because ive never heard you say that about an athletic QB like him before..?maybe I was wrong.
