SI Grades Selections In Top Two Rounds Round 1: Round 2 : http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/2008/draft/tracker/draft_analysis/round2.html
I didn't like the Patriots 1st day draft at all and I'm glad to see that someone in the media agrees with me. /pats self I like the Henne pick at 57, would have hated it if it was either him or Flacco @ 32. The Merling pick should be considered a steal too since he's compared to Greg Ellis. I didn't give any thought to him because he didn't seem like a fit for us. Now I see that he can be an ideal 3-4 rush end/linebacker early on. He looks like he enjoys hitting people. Oooo yeah!
also remember merling said he was hampered a lot by the injury last year and he gutted it out the guy is a tough guy who loves to hit
Cool. I was looking for some information on what type of injuries he was impacted by during the year. If he played with a hernia and strained hamstring through part of most of the season it would explain the lack of explosion some claim he lacks.
aAgreed. I think Merling is the best player we drafted followed by Jake Long. Merling has a chance to be our superstar in this defense whereas I dont quite see Jake being a superstar quality Left Tackle. Jake should be good but I doubt elite. Merling on the other hand might become elite
Meh, I'm still on the fence on Henne. He has the arm and the experience but his tendency to hold onto the ball so long, inconsistency, and his inaccuracy make me wonder if he'll be anything more than a backup. A lot of times, he gets a very nice cushion that most QB's don't have the luxury of. And he really reminds me of a lesser version of Drew Bledsoe (the older former Bills/Cowboys version).
