she probably had a serious case of the boredom/doledrums from moving from CA to Cincinnati, so that rumor wouldn't surprise me at all.

    Based on what?

Owens had a decent year if you ignore the fact he barely caught 50% of his passes and caused a whole lot of interceptions with bad route running and that he's essentially a poor man's Brandon Marshall at this point. Ochocinco was barely better in terms of catch %, and has clearly lost some steps. Shipley is better than Hartline? Based on what? Less yardage on more catches?

You'd take Gresham over Fasano any day, for what? To produce less? To have much worse yards per reception? To drop 4x the passes? To block a whole lot worse?

Yes, let's be real about it, you like the Bengals receiving options better because you've heard their names on TV or the radio more frequently.

If they trade for Palmer and commit to him and sign him to a 3 or 4 year contract, it had best not be for a lot of guaranteed money, or we're f*cked for years to come. Just my opinion, but I don't think I am too "out there" on this opinion.

I don't think the Bengals had a better receiving core last year.

But I'd take Gresham in a heartbeat. I know you'll say Fasano is a way better blocker, and he is. But Gresham could be worth a lot more with the mismatch he can create as a receiver.

He was only a rookie last year and you can already see he's got the right skill set to be a beast.

Beggars can't be choosers and Miami is clearly the beggar when it comes to QB's.

If we had taken Matt Ryan we'd not be so desperate. What a bad decision that was.

I never had agreed with that philosophy, I think a dynamic player and presence can make their own path, and get players to follow...The right QB will not conform to his surroundings..

He may not of been as successful as he has been with atlanta if he were here, but Iam sure the flashes of him personally and the path the team would of been on from him being here, would be a lot more clear..

Based on what? Based on the fact that we have literally no talent at the WR position outside of Marshall and Bess. If you are going to argue the point of TO and Ocho having talent, then I'll question your football knowledge. I'm not arguing Marshall here. I'm a fan of him, but it doesn't take away from the fact that Palmer had more talented targets than we did. I never said Shipley is better than Hartline. Nice job on taking my post out of context. This is how we have to rank them:

    Marshall>TO
    Hartline<Ocho
    Bess>Shipley
    Moore<Caldwell
    Wallace<Cosby
    Fasano=Gresham

I must have missed the part where Gresham produced less than Fasano last season. Gresham started 5 less games than Fasano, yet he recorded 13 more catches, 57 less yards, same amount of touchdowns, and both had similar catch rates. He also had more catches and more TDs in the redzone. Fasano may be a better blocker now, but he has been in the league for 5 seasons, as opposed to Gresham's 1 season. That's why I'd take Gresham any day over Fasano. As a rookie, he put up numbers that rivaled Fasano's in the receiving game and has a lot more potential in his career right now than Fasano does.

    lol at Gresham "producing less".

Or maybe it's because I have watched both teams play. Marshall is a stud and Bess is one of the better slot receivers in the league. What else do we have after that? Hartline hasn't proved much yet (doesn't help when you get injured in your second season), Moore/Wallace are jokes and wouldn't even be on most NFL team's rosters, and Fasano is a very average TE.

I think you are underestimating the Bengals a ton or you are over hyping the Dolphins a ton. Because, fact of the matter is, they have MORE talent than us on offense.

Bengals owner Mike Brown: No plans to trade Palmer

  15. The draft will speak volumes. If they go QB early then they will be open to trading him.

Isn't that the same reason Dolfans want Mallett, or Gabbert, or Newton, or Kolb?

I don't know who had the better supporting cast, cant say that there isnt much separation on either side. What I do know is that Palmer is a 10 year vet who has declining skills and arm strength, while Henne is a 3rd year guy who's salary is about 20X lower than Palmer's. Easy decision IMO.

If we got Carson, I wonder if we could trade back and somehow get Ingram and Baldwin.... That'd be nothing short of amazing. What's the downside? Carson blows out his elbow and we have a stacked team ready for Andrew Luck?

The Bengals offense was like ours last season in the sense that they abandoned the run way too often and put it on the QB.
Not even a veteran like Palmer can survive that lack of support. In fact he wants to run like hell.

  20. Then she is going to want half when he gets caught screwing a groupie after she moves 2500 miles away.

What would Cincy want? I can't imagine we are going to get him for a 4th or 5th round pick and we don't have a 2nd rounder. He isn't worth the 15th pick at this point so do we give up a player? Next years 2nd or more? I'm not sure. I do think if we got Palmer and Ingram this offseason improved the offensive line we would be a real contender in the AFC East next season. He's certainly worth a shot, he is a good Qb that has been on some really bad teams there in Cincy.

I'd imagine Mike Brown will ask for a hefty, hefty price IF he is willing to listen to trade offers at all. Despite what others might think, he's certainly proved in past circumstances he won't budge from his stance in matters like this (Chad Johnson for sure and Corey Dillon if my memory serves). My guess is he'd rather see Palmer retire than give him up based on how this has played out so far.

And yet if you can watch Chad Henne play football and then watch Carson Palmer play football and not come away with an unavoidable conclusion that Palmer is a far better quarterback, I would have to question if you know what you're seeing.

The x-factor in all this is the CBA and lockout stuff (still). If they reach some kind of agreement either on a new CBA or at the very least something that allows for trades involving players, and they do that before the draft, then I think this has a shot of happening. There's a guy on FH that's been passing along information which he claims to be from Jeff Ireland himself whom he's been buddies with for a while, says Ireland doesn't care about giving the information because nobody pays attention to rumors on message boards, but anyway he wrote I believe in December that Ireland and everyone are switching gears into win now, desperation mode for 2011 because of job security, and the idea would be to put an offer on the table with the Bengals of our #15 pick and a conditional 3rd rounder in 2012, for Carson Palmer and their #35 pick. But this would all be conditioned on the right player falling to the right spot, and if the Bengals get the right QB then they would go ahead and execute the deal.

This was a long time ago and obviously from an unreliable source but what I took away from it was yes, it is possible to trade for Carson Palmer, but the KEY would be an agreement between the players and owners (or perhaps some sort of legal development?) that allows for trades by draft day. The idea of trading down from #15 to #35, plus giving a conditional 3rd in 2012 for Carson Palmer, appeals to me a lot. I could also see how it would appeal to the Bengals, because they'd get to pick up a young quarterback that will make half the money Carson does, re-invigorate the fanbase, and then trading from #35 to #15 they should be able to pick up a premium pass rusher like Aldon Smith. It would go down (in the short run) as one of those win-win trades...IF Carson Palmer (and evidently his wife) are willing to go to Miami instead of the West Coast.

It's all still a very remote possibility, but it gets less remote now that we hear the Dolphins agree with what I've been saying since early December that Carson Palmer is absolutely worth acquiring. That improves the chances SOME, but it's still a remote possibility because of the CBA, Mike Brown, and Carson's wife.

If there's no agreement in place where veterans can be traded for draft picks, I don't think it's happening period. I can't see the Dolphins foregoing a QB in the Draft (unless one never comes available) on the possibility that they could acquire Carson Palmer. And Barry Jackson recently confirmed that they're wary of Vince Young's baggage. They should be. Vince Young combines Lawrence Phillips' violence, with Dimitrius Underwood's sheer craziness and willingness to kill himself.

If the stuff about Palmer's wife is true, then he is either playing on the west coast or retiring. If she hated Cincy, no way she's going to schlep all the way to the East Coast.

Chad Henne's issues in 2010 were due to the following:

    1. Bad chemistry with Brandon Marshall due to their lack of playing time together
    2. Lack of ground game
    3. Rookies at other WR and TE positions making rookie mistakes
    4. An offensive system that grew stagnant (notice OC Henning was fired right after the season.)
    5. Injuries
    6. Inexperience-2nd starting season in the league

I don't disagree. But it just sounds to me like she was sick of Cincinnati, not necessarily dead-set on California.

I'm sure California is their preferred destination. I would guess SF is their first choice. But would he be willing to play for the Raiders? Would he trade California for South Florida if it meant he had the opportunity to play for a team that isn't owned by Al Davis, and from all appearances has every opportunity to be a contender?

I don't know. If you've got family in California and you want to be closer to them than a cross-country plane flight, I could understand that. Even being somewhere like Seattle might be preferable. But San Fran could be interested in him as well. Bill Parcells' advice (to teams he does not work for) is always the first thing you do is get your quarterback, that's what he told Sean Payton and so he pulled out the stops to grab Brees. I'm not saying Harbaugh will ask Parcells for advice, but I would think the QB position has to be the first he's thinking of.

If our team played like it did last year, Palmer won't make a bit of difference. Carson might help us win an extra game, but I don't see his addition making us a super bowl team, and I see him doing nothing but delaying our permanent solution at the position. The revolving door would start all over again, and it's possible he becomes Culpepper relived.

I grew up in Boca. It's exactly like Santa Barbara, California . . . except for the weather, availability of good wine and beer, populace of laid back Californians as opposed to uptight Northeasterners and the elderly, liberal marijuana laws, proximity to mountains/skiing, and beautiful sunsets as opposed to sunrises.

But other than that, totally the same.

Great post. It seems that making excuses for 10 year Vets is allowed, but making those same excuses for a 2nd year starter? Nah. It's all his fault. Pretty funny the mental hoops some guys will jump thru to bash Chad Henne.
