Pro Football Focus had him rated as the 8th best CB in the NFL last year, I don't know why its only mostly Dolphin fans who trash the guy just because he drop some balls doesn't mean he suck at least a drop pick count for a pass breakup, we should start appreciating this guy more and by the way he is our best coverage CB

Completely agree. Smith had a bit of a "Rocky Road" in adapting to Nolan's D but, played great after he did. The one thing I admire about him is that, in his first year, he had a lot of trouble in tackling. He did not have NFL strength.

Then, in the off season, he put on 10 pounds of muscle and did not lose anything in coverage. He can now tackle, and do it well. This shows a total commitment from him to be the best he can be. That would be being in the Pro Bowl, and I'm not putting that past him this year.

I also expect Davis to get in the competition with him, giving us potentially the best CB's we have ever had.

  7. I think he will. He is still growing into his postion. I honestly have been impressed by both how well both him and Davis have done since being thrown into the fire. They have only steadily improved since.

If he held on to half of those dropped interceptions, the fanbase would be comparing him to Cam Wake.

If he resembled more of a beast in all facets of life we'd be comparing him to Cam Wake.

Definitely. But everyone would have to agree that he sure does put himself into position to make interceptions a lot. Just hang on to the damn ball Sean!

I agree that he should not be moved completely to safety, but I think a lot of people have missed that Smith was essentially a corner-safety hybrid this year. His role for all but the beginning of the season was playing CB in the base 3-4, and then in Nickel packages when Yeremiah Bell would replace Crowder at linebacker, Smith replaced Bell at safety.

There's reasons to continue doing it, given that he doesn't give up the height your average DB does on a TE while being a bigger guy.

Which I think is a positive for him. He is a more versatile than most corners. The fact that we can move him from the outside, to the inside to cover tight ends and then at safety in nickel situations, makes him very valuable. And he actually does it well.

Surtain went through the same learning curve, always so close to an interception, until he took off.

Watching him play makes me say that the stats aren't really lying in this instance. He certainly played better than Vontae Davis in the last 8 games and that's not really a knock on Davis.

I still think adding Asomugha is a good idea. Aso, Davis, Smith, Allen, Carroll, Sapp. Thats a beast squad.

If that end up being the case(unlikely) Aso and Sean Smith should be one and two with Vontea in the nickel

i don't think he gets blasted here .... and it will be interested to see where he is this year, in year 3 .... he showed some growth last year, but i just can't see any way he is the #8 CB in the league .... to me, he is the guy i want in the middle of the nickel package because of his height and wingspan. his value to me is not as a CB per se ....
