http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000...cial-data-to-negotiating-table?module=News_CP This is what needs to happen. They're still far apart on terms (per Schefter), but this is a step in the right direction. Expiration of the deal means the union will decertify, and that spells a long, drawn-out process.
If the owners are proposing the extension, and the PA is considering it, the owners must have conceded something that makes it worthwhile. If that's the case then it bodes well for the process. IF the owners make a concession, the players are now in position to make one, and so on and so forth.
I just think were gonna miss out on some offseason activities, I dont see the rush from the players side, its their offseason, and you know how lazy most are, they dont care about offseason team activities...I hope not though..I love the offseason stuff.
Exactly, free agency would be starting soon if there was a CBA. Plus the players have been pushing for a deal for the last few months
If they agree on an extension that's interesting. It means one or both parties intend to cave in key areas.
Well the owners took a blow in the courtroom when Judge Dotay (think that's his name) ruled that they couldn't touch the TV Contract money the networks had promised. Without that $4billion a long term lockout becomes much less desirable. They still hold the upper hand, but the Union can make life really rough for them. Ultimately, I think if the owners sit down and make a few concessions, the union will fall into line pretty fast and take a deal.
IF the players agree to an extension, they cannot de-certify for 6 months, and lose the very favorable judge. I do not see that happening.
A lot of those guys live paycheck-to-paycheck. They don't get paid in the offseason. And the guys who are free agents want/need those signing bonuses (which are paid when they sign). Me, I'm selfish. I love the offseason stuff too.
Kara Henderson and Albert Breer report the NFL and NFLPA have agreed to a 24 hour extension, pending Judge Doty’s approval. Decertification deadline is now Friday at 4 PM.
I'll belleve it when I see it. All the owners are trying to do here is to get the union to stay a union for now.
I don’t think the NFLPA will decertify at all. But an extension is good news. Means something is on the table.
If we don't have football this year because of this BS, I doubt I'll ever come back. Just like MLB, I won't watch much anymore.
Decertification is definitely one of the biggest cards the Union has to play. But I think Doty's ruling that the owner's cannot touch the 4 billion in TV contract money is playing a big roll. The owner's will buy time to see if a favorable deal can be worked out while they explore options to reopen that money. I don't think they will though, and once they are faced with that, they will come to the table ready to make a deal. The owner's will likely do well, but it is now appearing their chances for the home run they really wanted are severely dimmed.
My understanding is that the 24 hour extension kept all player options open, as well as keeping the labor friendly judge, He is the same one who helped Upshaw in the early 90's.
I was dangerously close in late October last year. No season this year would probably put me over the top. Link: http://www.thephins.com/forums/show...-quit-watching-football-altogether&highlight=
To me, that 24 hour extention is a great thing, as of now. Seriously, that 4 billion dollar tv contract that the owners banked on being paid is now nixed during any of this. That is a huge blow for owners, such as Jerry Jones, who are deep in money with that new stadium / owners who are losing money elsewhere in their real estate markets (Ross etc.)...or however else they made their money. Things like that, where owners banked on money during a certain lockout now isn't there. Some owners needed that/were banking on that... Where as owners thought that players were the ones that would be hurting on money, now some of them might be in the same delimma...that can even out the playing field some...hopefully something gets done now soon. Would be great for the NFL. And like Herm Edwards said, meet in the middle. Play 17 games, have every team play one game overseas. Meet somewhere here in the middle and do this. Even Bruschi told Herm that he would be down for something like that tonight...
