Yes you can. So why is it OK to draft a LB'er in the 4th round but not a QB?

True, but just like many fans on this board believe is that a QB can completely turn your team around. Which is why IMO it hurts more to have a QB bust. I mean we had Ted Ginn and Jason Allen, but not many people really felt when we drafted them that they were going to automatically make us a great team. I just feel like a QB bust hurts just a little big more based on the importance of the position.

You are correct in saying that what I said holds true at any position though. I've always been a fan of drafting the best player available no matter the position. IMO you get more busts when drafting based on need, which is where I think we got burnt with Ginn and Allen.

I never said it wasn't fine to draft a quarterback in the 4th.

Just like the quarterback, chances of that linebacker being a quality starter goes down each round. There are always players who turn out to be great from later rounds. The crapshootiness of the draft is the reason for that.

I guess it hurts more emotionally as a fan. We all know what a good quarterback can do.

I also do not agree that Ginn and Allen were drafted based on need and not by talent. Both were amazing talents. It is the crapshootiness of the NFL. Ginn had everything that looked like he would at least be a decently successful NFL football player and he hasn't really been that. Allen was one of the most talented defensive backs in the draft and he would be in most drafts.

I'll only answer this question based on my stance that I only think you shouldn't draft a QB in the 4th round if you currently don't have the answer at QB and you're counting on that 4th round pick to become the answer -

    1. You have more than one starting linebacker on the field at anyone time and need depth at the position.
    2. It's not the most important position on the field.
    3. Much larger talent pool, because again more athletes playing the position in college. This means more talent available in later rounds and you can many times count on a late round LB to be a starter.

Go back to that list of late round QBs who have had success in this league. I'll bet a large percentage of them were drafted by teams who needed backups or already had a franchise QB. These QBs either proved they had the tools to surpass the starting QB, or took over for them because of injury or after their career was finished. It's simply not good practice for a team to take a late round QB and count on that guy to be the answer to the most important position on the field.

Bro I know that better QB's are found in the 1st round over all. I was also pointing out that there have bad mistakes if you go up to post 71 and click on the link. There was a statement made of:

So what? Compare that to quarterback who were taken in the 4th round. 4th round quarterbacks are successful when they become career back ups.

I simply stated that Tom isn't a backup and he was selected in the 6th round. You can find gems in other then round one. We just haven't yet, and I hope this is the year bro.

The best way to put a QB when you draft him is they are the 10 draw tool cabinet. Now you have to get the rest of the tools to make it happen. The other thing that puts pressure on a new QB is not seeing the progressive progress. That can be the a combination of things. That can be the QB himself and a lack of coaching staff to which I think has been a big part of the problem. I am still not sold on this coaching staff.
