Eh, and Thomas Jones had 1,300 yds in NY and the wanted him to take a paycut. A more talented back would do even better than Foster did in 2010, sort of like the Vikings taking Adrian Peterson when Chester Taylor was coming off of a great season.
Was afraid of contact, couldn't break tackles.. They took Ben Tate without knowing what they had in Foster. TJ is also 31 isn't he? lol I love how more talented really just means he can run a faster 40. I'd also love to hear how you "know" a more talented RB would of done better.
Keep starting henne and we will have a better chance of drafting Luck next year. There is a positive solution after all.
And what's the better option this year? Throwing away more picks and money on prospects and FAs that we know aren't the answer?
I wouldn't give away any pics. I think we ride henne or Thigpen and see what happens. Either they will improve or we have a good shot at Luck. Either way I have no expectations for this team next year.
I just love it when people put up a perfectlly good argument and the other person has to resort to throwing an insult to that person because he really has no answer. Here is one for you. Just one example that should shut your sideswiped insults the hell up. The Steelers won the SB in 2005. They had 5 losses that season. In every single loss they rushed for less than 100 yards. For the season they ran for over 2200 yards and did not pass for 3000. But ok, you think they GOT THERE because of their Qb. The league has seen more passing and certain rule changes have seen teams trying to take advantage of it. With success but if a team has trouble running the ball, the chances are not GREAT that they'll win the SB because they pass pass pass. Now lets see if you come back with more insults....
I don't care what you think about me. But what bothers me is if someone puts up, even a decent debate with you, you resort to backhanded slaps at the posters. It's almost like you think we're supposed to read what you say then mark it down as fact and shut the hell up because your opinion is the only one that's correct.... I've seen some boards with this mentality and they lasted less than a year.
OH my Lord are you that thick headed man. Steven Jackson has been a PRO BOWL running back since 2006. Why didn't his running game help Marc Bulger man. You really do have serious problems relating to reality don't you. Steven Jackson has ALWAYS been there since 2006 and he was still there when Bradford got there with exception they almost won the NFC West with Bradford, a rookie, this year. Add to that Bulger had Torry Holt, Isaac Bruce and Bradford had WHO ? Tell ya what, put Bradford under center for the 2010 Maimi Dolphins and we winn 11-12 games period. Go up to Ireland and say Stan Kroenke is on an acid trip and wants to trade Bradford for Henne, heads up, no money,, no added picks, just take over his contract. Ireland would have aheart attack dialing the phone so fast. If you cannot admit what happened in St. Louis and Arizona was due solely to one team getting an actual QB and another team losing a QB, then know what ? Something is wrong with you. Give me Sam Bradford and you can keep Chad Henne. When he is throwing interceptions and has larger buckets of cement on his feet and is still lackluster and confused in 2011 I imagine you will blame it on global warming. Tell me then why didn't Jackson help Bulger out in the passing game and he helped Bradford out. Jackson still made Pro Bowls, still was the rushing leader or second or third Bulger had two PRO BOWL WRs and the guys that are on the team now, so why did it help Bradford and not Bulger. Yes, same coach in 2009 and 2010 and same OC in 2009 and 2010. By the way, Bradfords starting WR was put on IR about the 4th game, his second receiver was also out the rest of the season by about game 6. Your reasoning is skewed to the end point where you do not care about reality.
Nonsense, SJax played on a team with one of the worst defenses in the NFL and Keith Null at Qb for pete's sakes. Let me guess, in your world there is only one way to look at things, "gosh he made a pro bowl" if the team sucks overall it sucks, a running back is not going to change that, there must be at least a base level of talent or Qb or whomever it won't matter. As for AZ, keep in mind Matt Leinart led that team to the playoffs, they were bad for so long they stockpiled players such as: -Dansby -Fitzgerald -Boldin -Wilson Etc, but of course "they just added a QB guffaw guffaw" Sooner or later, even the Bills will do a decent imitation of the Cardinals as when you pick Top 7 yr after yr, you wind up with talented players, and of course the point will be lost on you that we have had mediocre yrs so we rarely pick that highly yr after yr.
Exactly, but people just have an idea and that is all they have so they stick to it no matter: -evidence to the contrary -obvious difficulty in implementing it (love those folks "trade 5 #1's for Andrew Luck!!) -an idea that maybe is just better than the one they believe in.
lol The SJax and STL debate is ridiculous. How much could SJax help Bulger when they're already in down 2-3 TDs bc of their non-existent defense? The Steelers have sustained success because they have a great running game AND a solid defense. You need both or the smashmouth approach doesn't work.
We have the solid defense, now we just need the running game, that is my problem with the pass first stuff, it may be true, but it is not happening in Miami in 2011 so we'd better maximize what we have and not worry about what we do not have..imo
We don't have as consistent of a passrush and a dominant safety, but otherwise we're close. Agree with just focusing on the OL/Running game and not QB. I see it as fixing our offense is most likely a 2 year project no matter how you look at it. There's a real lack of good QB options so why not work on everything else this offseason. Who knows, we might get lucky and Henne might be servicable. Never know what'll happen now that Henning is gone.
Here's my thinking. Our D was VG, not great, last year. I could be great this year in doing little or even nothing. Every player should be a little to a lot better because of a 2nd year under Nolan and/or getting a year older, stronger, and smarter. Add in injured players coming back, and catching some FRAKIN picks. We can dominate some games. ST's will be better. There is no doubt in my mind. Ireland admitted his mistake of las season. The guy is not stupid, and will not repeat the same thing. The O needs some fixing, and QB is not an option, as we almost all agree. Adding Ingram re-establishes a running game but, he does more. He is a VG blocker, and a VG receiver. This has to help Henne. Add Shockey's attitude and receiving skills to Fasano. Has to help Henne. With Ingram, he has three "security blankets" with VG hands as well as the ability to get open. Marshall will fit in better just because of time. Bess and Hartline already click with Henne. The OL need some help but, there is sooo much talent available that it's almost a given we will be MUCH better. Hell, Jerry developing, Garner coming back , and Long and Carey being healthy already bring us up a few notches. I am a realist. The above improvements are not much to ask for. If we get them done, I can easily see a playoff team.
Well, keep in mind KC fixed their running game in a single offseason, and they had less talent on the roster heading into 2010 than we have heading into 2011 so we are not 2 yrs away..if we do not change directions again and try to go with a passing attack. That is why I'm predicting/hoping we fix the running game first and foremost.
I'm not one to agree with Sparano in rotating the OL. Injuries aside, five guys have to play as one. I've seen bad OL's get much better just by being together, Bears & Pack off the top of my head. I may be wrong but, do not recall any five guys on our OL playing 16 games together over the last 3 years.
Oh you are correct, the Oline has been shuffled often mostly due to injuries. Thomas in 08, Grove and Smiley in 09, Berger and Carey in 2010.
Er, when did Matt Leinart lead Arizona into the playoffs ? Kurt Warner got them to the Super Bowl, Matt Leinart only came in when someone was injured, Outside of the first 5 games in 2007 Leinart never took over again unless Warner was injured. Leinart took them to the playoffs LMAO. Ask Cardinal fans what Leinart did for that team, NADA. Him and Bulger sure look good holding clipboards now.
Is it by choice you leave out Jerry being injured sick and missing games and Long having a bad knee all season and from weeks 10 thru 17 played with a torn rotator cuff ? I kinda would put that in the heading along with Shuffling .
We'd say that NO won there SB as a passing team right? Well even they had over 2000 yards rushing for the season. Wether it's to win games or keep leads, you have to be able to run well, and pass effieciently and play great defense. Yes, they have a great Qb but a great Qb does not win SB's or Miami might have 10 more in their trophy case
-JJ nope, I left him out as there really was no clear cut Starter at RG last yr, how can they then miss any games? -Big Jake did not miss any games so how can he be included? Lydon Murtha missed the final game, but being the backup Tackle he was already filling in, once the Starter goes out that is when I count it, the other way you could have "well Nate Garner missed 2 games in 09" and that seems a bit too nit picky in my view.
Chad Henne was mediocre in 2009 when he had a running game and he was emdiocre to bad in 2010 with a poor running game. It's safe to assume that Chad Henne is simply mediocre. Now maybe mediocre is ok if you have an all world defense, but we don't. Fixing the running game won't make a bit of difference in the number of wins and losses next year without better QB play, and we'll simply be another year into this regime with no answer or prospects at the most important position on the field. After another 7-9 win season we'll be back on this same forum having the same arguments. "We can't get Luck or Barkley, so let's just get another o-lineman. It's too hard to fix the QB position."
A fact Sparano pointed out, NOLA won the SB by controlling the ball and the clock, but imo the way we have to do things is reversed from the way the Saints did, they added Brees and he made everyone better we do not have that option so you have re-enforce what you do have as there are no Drew Brees's or even a Kyle Orton on the market this yr. Which is a small part of the reason why I would not mind taking a shot on Vince Young as he is the most accomplished Qb on the market this offseason..which is faint praise indeed. BTW, with no RFA tenders this offseason Tyler Thigpen is likely outta Miami, which means we have Henne, Brandstater, and no one. Maybe we take a shot on Je Marcus Russell before the lockout or whatever happens just to have a Qb on the roster?
Clear cut starter from day 1 was John Jerry at RG. Look at the depth chart. Jake with a hanging arm was not a problem ? LMAO.
Let me know how you feel once Henne is gone and we have a real QB back there. Once that happens his backers will just fade away eventually. I have all the time in the world to wait for that day, Henne does not. Like I said, put somebody like Bradford under center without changing one thing. 11 wins minimum from a rookie. Hennes trade value is ZERO
-and then he got "sick" and the carousel began, that is why he should not be counted as a "starter", they normally play 10 or more games in the same position. -Of course Long's arm was a problem, he did not miss any starts, though he should have missed the Bears game.
I doubt we have much choice, Henne will be the Starter as there literally is no other good option. And folks pfft Vince Young, he is pretty much the only Qb with any sort of playmaking ability who will be available.
lol Well I hope that's what happens. Not that I'm optimistic, but if we open the season with a different starter, it looks like it'd be bc we overpaid somewhere. At least that's what it looks like atm. Vince Young pfffft lol. His play-making ability seems overshadowed by the ****** factor. He's one cup of sizzurp away from Jamarcus Russel status.
All differences aside, one would have to agree, 3 of the Olineman on the starting day roster had bad seasons due to either illness or injuries. Would like to see how it would have worked out if A all were healthy B Jerry actually could play. Would have loved to see that.
I am just comparing what a rookie did for a team that already had a Pro Bowl running back that was no less then 3rd in the league every year in rushing and no recievers to speak of. A rookie and Henne has been given how many years to " get it " and I have heard every excuse there is on the planet. This year we can blame the cheerleaders for showing their rear ends and it distracted him I guess because everyone in his camp and set the blame everywhere else by now. Come to think of it, maybe our cheerleaders are way hotter then the ones he saw on the road and they were a distraction, yeah, thats it.
I'm sure you have heard that Henne has been meeting with Daboll? No new Qb will have that luxury so they start behind the curve. Which brings me to: There is not much of a playbook for Vince Young, give him 6 routes and 6 running plays and hope for the best. And I do subscribe to the Cowherd Theory: "Screwups are always fine their first season" And tbh, Young has been injured much of the last 3 seasons, he had the good run in 09, but 08 and 10 he was nicked up or gave Fisher an excuse to sit him, Jeff Fisher just did not go for Vince Young, just not a mesh there and it wound up hurting both of them.
lol Nooot really. Bradford obv has SJ, who's one of the best pass-catching RBs in the league. Amendola, who's quickly looking like a white Bess. Laurent Robinson is a bigger target and def no scrub when healthy. Donnie Avery, same thing. They're 4th and 5th WRs aren't that shabby either. He also has an intelligent OC, which we obviously did not. Not that there's no good point to make between Henne and Bradford. It's not like a rookie QB is automatically a success if he's picked in the 1st round.
Of course Henne and Daboll been meeting, I'm sure we'll both assume they're already working on things. VY has won a few games, but his mentality is not made for the long-haul. He's the Britney Spears of the NFL with his mental meltdowns. If he shaves half his head and starts attacking people w/umbrellas then you heard that analogy here first. Needless to say, I can't see the personalities of the coaches and players we have here wanting to deal with a character like VY.
Jackson is pretty awesome, however the insanly average Mark Clayton became their star receiver after he was cut from the Ravens. I do not agree, their wide receivers are scrubs.
Also true. Completely forgot about Clayton. Their WRs all have talent and there's a pretty good variety there. After Amendola and Clayton, none of them can stay healthy. Same thing w/their TEs.
