Also Portland is expected to trade camby and miller before the deadline...I'm wondering of camby won't be coming back this way given our need for a big and Portland may want the expiring contracts of azubuike or turiaf and maybe throw in bill walker as a sweetener.
Ouch. The Nets win in the end. They trade the same package they offered for Melo to Utah and GET Deron Williams. Knick fans...which player would you have rather had...Melo or Deron?
The real loser over the last few weeks? Utah. You let Jerry Sloan leave, and then trade the guy who prompted his quitting? LOL, as they say.
That team has been a loser for about 10 months now. They had a chance to extend Boozer for cheap and trade Millsap for a difference maker. They basically took a borderline finals contender, and MURDERED it. for no apparent reason.
Yea their completely shot neither will be able to walk in 6 months. Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
No money left under the prospective CBA. The telling sign? Melo did not take ONE penny less. SO no more max contract for you! Pat Riley is GOD.
The billups contract plus the non guaranteed contracts of turiaf and azubuike would equal a max. If the option year is picked up on buike and turiaf that would be about 20M expiring at the same time
Check the tell-tale salary number on ESPN.com The numbers do not add up. You MUST be under the cap at a max number EVEN under this current CBA. Under the future CBA...no chance. Chad Ford on insider broke it down to the last dollar. He figured that Paul would have to start his deal at 12 mil per. so..he would leave a measly 30 million on the table. Good luck with that.
Here ya go. Billups is currently biting into the Tax. http://hoopshype.com/salaries/new_york.htm Paul would have to start at around 11.5 and you would then have to sign everybody else to vet min. contracts...under the current CBA. The Heat preserved itself two 6 million dollar slots along with 3 maxes. The reason they did that was because the big three all took alot less. Melo and Amare are taking every dollar they can get.
all the assets are gone.... Paul is going to the Lakers. Dwight Howard is going to New Jersey or staying in Orlando. That's it. That's the list. David Stern wants to create a "new" parity and by doing so, will hand a ton of hardware to Miami. Hey..I'll take it. NO BIG THREE FOR YOU!
BTW...watching this game....I might go get myself a Bernard King jersey! GO NEW YAWK GO NEW YAWK GO!!! Best fat athletes of all-time: 1. Babe Ruth 2. Shaquille Oneal (FAT SHAQ from LA days) 3. Miguel Cabrera 4. Warren Sapp 5. Carmelo Anthony
Ask the Lakers if just expiring contracts and marginal crap wont land you a superstar The only way the Knicks dont get a 3rd superstar is if the new CBA has an extremely hard cap like the NFL and not the type of system they have now cause you know Dolan will pay the tax, thats been proven.
You are gonna need a very "friendly" GM..ahem to do that. Unless you got inside info of Isiah Thomas getting the Hornets job.
Or Im going to need a team losing a ton of money every year...like the hornets. "Hi, its Donnie, yes we will take Okafor or whatever other cap issues you need us to solve"
Those trades won;t work with the structure of salaries you currently have. Okafor has a ridiculous contract. I know..I have been wanting him for 3 years now. The guy that becomes a piece is Landry Fields...if he becomes good...you extend him in 2 years and then do a trade with him as the center piece.
I think Okafor has like 3YR/42M left now. OT but have you heard anything regarding the knicks acquiring a big man? Im thinking a guy like Jason Thompson or Tyler Hansborough might be on the Knicks radar. I was reading earlier the Knicks tried hard to get portland in as the 4th team in the Melo deal to get Camby....
D'Antoni is very particular. Joel Pryzbilla can be had for peanuts (I love him). D'antoni won;t want him. Word is that the Knicks will jump into the Troy Murphy bidding. it will be MIA, BOS, ORL, and NYK going after him..(March 1st). A guy that D'Antoni has Tried to trade for in the past...so keep him on your radar: Andris Biedrins. Portland is going to stand pat according to their beat guy, so forget Camby.
Pryzbilla is a terrible fit for this system anyway, hes too slow. Hes also supposedly threatened to retire if traded. I wouldnt want Biendrins contract and hes a terrible foul shooter as well as possessing awful court sense. Murphy is a fit. Hes a good rebounder though not really the defensive presence the Knicks need.
The Vanilla Gorilla once hit Dwight Howard with 6 elbows in one game, fouled out, got a tech and tried to start a fight. How can you NOT like that guy?
D'Antoni at his presser tonight: "We gotta work on the defensive end." Really? Does he know who he is? bump on the head?
The guy shoots like 30% from the foul line, you should hit 30% with your eyes closed. He is soft, he is passive, he is limited offensively in terms of range and post moves which means he doesnt really qualify for this system anyway and if D'Antoni likes him you know he plays no defense. lol, I saw that. D'Antoni can start with himself and his brother...learn where the defensive side of halfcourt is. Cannot stand this BS fun and gun. It wasnt bad after Isiah left to at least make the team watchable but now its like watching the all star game with only 2 all stars. Too early to start the bring back Jeff Van Gundy campaign?
I was talking about the vanilla gorilla....(Joel Pryzbilla)..Not Biedrins. The vanilla gorilla and the word "soft" do not deserve to be in the same universe. If you want a banger and deterrent. he is it.
This team is the 3rd best team in the east imo, Orlando and Chicago are nice teams and all but NY is back. Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
I disagree. It is clear that New York will not lose another game this year, and will win 77 games next year.
If you don't think NY is the 3rd best team then your just a hater.... I guess haters will just hate. Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
Right but a team has to play real good defense to beat NY, right now imo the only consistent defensive teams are Miami and Boston. Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
Wait, so the Knicks are better than the Heat, Bulls or Celtics? Which one is it? This should be good.
It should be. A little math class. Here we go. I said the Knicks were the 3rd best team imo, I then said the only 2 teams that played defense were Miami and Boston, and infact I think I even stated they were better than the Bulls about 3 posts ago. Take some time, let it sink in then do the equation. Thanks this was good. Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
I will say this. yes...the scoreboard was not impressive vs. Milwaukee. 114-108 vs. a bad shooting team is pretty weak. But statistically speaking, that 114 point performance vs. a team that actually plays some defense is pretty damn good. What makes the Knicks dangerous is what makes Orlando dangerous. When they play "above" their capability, they can beat ANYBODY. The Knicks offense is probably the best in the NBA. But I thought they were the best before the trade. SO what this trade does is give the Knicks a goto guy down the stretch in close games, and unless you have Lebron James on your roster, you can;t really match up with Melo. The underrated part of all this is that Tony Douglas can play. he is DAMN GOOD. Bill Walker and the rest of the bench sucks...but Tony Douglas is a keeper. I am impressed..but slow that roll chief. chew your food slowly...enjoy the meal.
I see NY as competing to be the 4th/5th best team in the East with Atlanta. They are still behind Boston, Miami and Chicago. NY is back to being a contender that isn't quite good enough to win a championship. That is their pinnacle over the last 30 years. Basically they're what the Nets have been, but with an over-inflated opinion of themselves. If they continue to build they can surpass that, but that's still an "if".
I disagree. They are a new coach, and a offseason of working on the bench away from being the yearly sacrificial lamb to the Heat in the ECF's.
I'm not sure where "being the yearly sacrificial lamb to the Heat in the ECF's" is that different from "NY is back to being a contender that isn't quite good enough to win a championship".
IMO, the lack of height means NYK cant beat Orlando or Boston and we still arent on Miami's skill level. If we want to have a real chance to make the ECF this year get on the phone with Sacremento and get Dalembert and/or Thompson since they may come at a reasonable pricetag. Ronny Turiaf is a good bet to get hurt and we need bigs in the worst way. I think we can handle Chicago or Atlanta since we have fared well vs Chicago this year (2-0) and Atlanta (1-2 this year but all games were close).
