Hey Guys I currently have an iPhone 3G. It runs incredibly slow and freezes fairly often so I want to upgrade (it is a refurb, my original worked great). I am due an upgrade but not sure if it is worth going out and getting the iPhone 4 or waiting for the iPhone 5 to come out. Anyone have an opinion one way or the other? I've heard the 5 is going to be much faster, have better battery life and possibly an HDMI out. Also heard the release date is early June. I could probably wait till then but not sure on the pricing / availability when they are first released. Thoughts? (Also - I am sticking with one or the other - not switching to Droid. I'm also not willing to spend more than $200 on the 5 - and even that would be a stretch.) Thanks!
From where? The faster part is likely true; the better battery life is speculative but probable; and an HDMI out port is simply BS, and you should punch whoever told you that. The current rumors regarding the iPhone 5 include the addition of Near Field Communication, basically a way for the iPhone to act as a debit card ala those Exxon-Mobile payment dongles; a dual-core CPU and GPU; and a free, more tightly integrated version of MobileMe. The announcement date is early June. Apple announces new iPhones at WWDC in early June. Do you NEED a new phone? Can you no longer stand the iPhone 3G to the point where you want to throw it against the wall rather than wait until June or July for the iPhone 5? If yes, then get the iPhone 4, and be happy. If you can hold out, then the iPhone 5 will be worth the wait.
Is the announcing and the release far apart? I could probably wait another few months - but anything past June is going to be too far. I'm just concerned I'll get locked in for 2 more years and then be in the same situation as when I got the 3G: so outdated that I'm just pining for the next toy.
Usually at least a couple of weeks. Then wait. And by the way, go to Settings -> General -> Spotlight Search and uncheck everything. That should speed things up.
AT&T is selling the 8GB iPhone 3GS for $49. If you can get that without a contract, it’s a good interim option until the iPhone 5 comes out.
