Ryan knows Jets will 'win it' next year NEW YORK -- Jets coach Rex Ryan took the acclaim from New York's basketball fans Friday night before pledging to bring Super Bowl glory to the city, the New York Post reported Saturday. Ryan, wearing a throwback Clyde Frazier jersey and seated courtside next to his wife Michelle, got a resounding ovation from the Knicks crowd inside Madison Square Garden before the 113-96 loss to the Lakers. The Gang Green coach said, "there's no way we don't get it done next year," and told the MSG's Jill Martin at halftime that "next year I know we'll win it." That's why he is uniquely qualified to offer advice to young quarterback Mark Sanchez, who has been embroiled in a media firestorm of his own after an alleged tryst with Eliza Kruger, a 17-year-old Connecticut girl. "Not everybody can play quarterback in this town. It takes a special person, and Mark can do it. He's proved that he can do it. He's focused and determined," Ryan said. Man he should give it a rest. 29 other teams are also sick that they missed out on the Super Bowl. As much as I think he's a good football coach his diarrhea of the mouth might end up being more poisonous than I had thought. From a probability standpoint it's pretty tough to make it that deep in the postseason three years in a row.

Living near Philly I recall. The difference is Buddy had hatred towards the other teams. Rex lacks that but has a bragado that his dad didn't. Buddy was a ****ty coach who felt that offense was a necessary evil. To this day is more beloved in Philly than Andy Reid. Buddy was a failure in that his ignoring of the O cost that team at least 1 championship.
Rexy also never got into fisticuffs with the OC while he was a DC. I'm sure you recall Buddy going after Kevin Gilbride.
The NY fans will get tired of his BS if they don't win again next year. There is only so much BS they will put up with. It'll be interesting to see how long the fans, media, and players take before they think he's anything more then a cheerleader. Once that happens, the team and city will fold.

Did someone say cheerleader? When you look at the long line of loser Jets head coaches (Walton, Coslett, Kotite, Groh, Herm, Mangini), Ryan will get a lot of leeway from the fans. Does his Super Bowl predicitons bother me? Yes..they do. But I still like him as a coach. I don't think he has had a team that was good enough to win a Super Bowl. In fact, I don't think their is a coach in the league that you could say would have put them over the top the last two years. No one would consider the 2009 a Super Bowl caliber team. This year it was debatable, but I think that even if they beat Pit in the AFCC game, they wouuld have lost to GB. GB is a better team. And who knows what the 2011 team will look like. Anyway, I do wish he would pipe down with the Super Bowl talk.

I wouldn't trade Rex Ryan or his foot fetish for any other coach in this league, and I swear on my heart on that. This is the type of guy players want to play for. He will attract free agents. Hard Knocks? That was a plan the entire time. The goal was to show how camp, practices, meeting, etc is aroune Rex. Remember what Trevor Pryce said about Rex Ryan after he was cut by the Ravens? Look at what T.O and Chad Johnson said thus far. It's a blessing, and I wouldn't trade him for the world. You guys don't understand, but we have a us against the world attitude.

Well, his coaching style is working well for you guys. He's getting the most out of your team. I'd love to have a couple of shots at the superbowl. Having said that. Rex's cheerleading style will become more ineffectual every season that you don't live up to your promises. players become desensitized to the Rah-Rah coach after a few years. similar IMO to Marty Sch and Herm Edwards.

Look at the people you signed last year, a has-been RB not wanted by his team, a WR jettisoned by his team. Name me ONE top shelf player in the league at his position who's dying to leave his team to play for Rex? Please. The Jets are fast becoming the Raiders of the AFCE. Let's grab everyone no one else wants. And you can have Rex. If I were to chose a coach, I might look at a few first who've actually won something without turning the team into a traveling circus.
McCarthy just won a SB and I would take Ryan over him. Same goes for Payton. Barry Switzer won a Super Bowl. Having won a championship is not the best qualifier. I'm pretty sure a SB winning coach has never won another after changing teams. sent from my EVO 4G
No, we do. Your coach constantly reminds us of it. Rex is a good coach, I respect his knowledge but I would take others over him. It has never happened. However, winning a SB championship is a pretty good qualifier.
I wouldn't get all caught up in what he says to the media. It is the media after all. And why wouldn't he tinker with the defense? He should be doing that, he's brilliant defensively. Those two other guys you mention are guys who call their own plays and have a hand in their offense. Just because they are that and Rex Ryan is not does not mean that he does not have a relationship with his quarterback. Earlier in the year, it was reported that Rex Ryan sits down with Mark Sanchez every Friday of the week to discuss the oppositions defense and break it down. The same thing is done by Belichick, who calls his defense, with Brady and Belichick's been doing that since he took over in NE. All coaches consider it early into a young quarterbacks career because at the end of the day, your job is to win games and if your QB isn't doing that, you have to make the unpopular decision. However, he stuck by him.
He's not up there because you haven't given them the chance to yet. Both are still early in their careers (both as coach and player).
I wouldn't trade this guy for anyone. PLAYERS want to play for Rex. That's how it goes. That's how it is today in football.

Actually that makes 3 AFC championship losses in a row for Rex. And it makes something like 43 years in a row without making it to the Super Bowl for the Jets.
Are you telling me you think Sanchez has untapped potential? I dont see it. I see a pampered media boy. I dont see anything that reminds me of an elite QB. If he wins a ring, guarantee its not on his back. Its on the back of their defense. I honestly think the Jets would be better off taking another 1st round QB this year and letting Sanchez ride the pine.
