It really isn't. In fact, there's a limit to how many of each star is given out. No idea where you're getting this from but it's completely off-base.
I wouldn't say it's completely off base. Rivals has the reputation of favoring some recruits because of the school they are committed to before the evaluations take place. With that said, people fall in love with the ratings too much. It's simply just way too difficult to expect these recruiting sites to accurately evaluate all these kids. Most schools determine their own "rankings" anyway so these sites just cater to the recruiting junkies.
That should be given. It's exactly like the draft and Mel Kiper's big board. Every team is going to have their own draft board and he's just there to give the fans a base reference point. These things are exactly the same way, and it's why I think it's hilarious when certain posters say "Brissett is never going to beat Driskel out," when in all likely hood, they've never seen either of them play. That being said, a 5 star player, is more likely to be successful than a 4 star player and so on, much like a first round pick is more likely to be successful than second round pick. I find that extremely hard to believe because the evaluation of players begins at the same time for both groups. Stars aren't assigned until after their senior summer, of course, but they are evaluated way before then.
Or it could have to do with the fact that Driskell is the real deal on tape. I don't give a damn how many stars he has. Stars are just given to players with the more impressive teams recruiting them, not their actual ability anyways...
Not at all. I can't count the number of times a kid is given an extra star because some SEC teams are recruiting him.
Interesting. I had a feeling after his visit, it would be hard for him to turn them down. Does that mean Savage is not coming?
Wow. I’m genuinely surprised. Forcier didn’t seem to be a good fit based on skills and grades. Star ratings are a joke. As long as you have alums grading their own school’s recruiting classes, this will never change. Wake me when Notre Dame, Florida, et al are graded honestly, and then we can talk about whether or not my description of the star system is correct.
2012 recruitment: AJ Leggett has decommitted from FSU and committed to UM. Plays DB/WR for Gulliver Prep. Tate Forcier will have to sit out the 2011 season. He can play in 2012 and 2013.
Is AJ leggett related to Lance Leggett? Also, wouldnt Forcier be able to play this yr due to Rich Rod being let go. I thought the NCAA allowed athletes whos coaches are fired to transfer without penalty.
2 tidbits. Eddie Goldman is supposedly a Cane lean. Big Canes fan growing up. He's considered by many the #1 recruit in the nation next year. Also, expect Brandon Snell to commit to Miami if we offer. He wants to play at Miami with teammates Keith Brown and Duke Johnson.
I think Forcier was released from his committment before RichRod was fired which is why he will have to sit for a yr? IIRC he pulled stumps when Robinson was clearly the starting Qb.
Yeah, I think Snell is going to be on that 7-on-7 South Florida Express team with them too. We have a legit shot on literally everyone on that squad which is awesome. Leggett, Duke, Brown and Bailey have also stated they are going to be recruiting all their boys down here in South Florida. The state is so stacked for next year, it's amazing. Only out of state guys I've seen that I really want are Goldman and Stefon Diggs who likes Miami A LOT. Marvin Bracy is my personal recruit that I want the Canes to get so badly. Kid is blazing fast and would probably be an Olympic runner if he bypassed football. Also, found out today that Leggett has a kid already so family urged him to reconsider that commitment he made to FSU and stay home instead.
Leggett was never going to FSU. Not a chance. I agree about the state being very stacked this year. Then again, it is every year... About looking out of state, I'm hoping we can land some Cali kids. Would love to land a Cali QB. Cali and Texas always has the best ones. Would be absolutely huge if we somehow landed Bart Houston who has interest in UM.
Hmm, Maryland trying to use Shannon's SFLa connections to bump up recruiting, I had thought Shannon would wind up in some small college as a Head Coach.
WHAT recruiting connections? Shannon applied an open borders policy to the “State of Miami.” He destroyed dozens of local connections and allowed the area to be poached by outside programs. I hope Maryland hires him. It’ll be great if/when Harris or Morris lead the offense to a win against the Terps. Be even better when Al Golden out-recruits him every year.
Exactly. What SoFla connections? Miami Northwestern? He alienated most high schools in the area so he could only recruit a select few. Terrible recruiting policy.
He burned so many bridges with High School coaches, it won't matter much. He'll get nothing but leftovers, if that!
Brennan Carroll has just tweeted “Welcome to the U”. We’ve picked up another recruit. Don’t know who.
Gray Crow had offers from Notre Dame and Florida. Smart move by him to pass up on both, especially Florida. Watch him get rated 2 or 3 stars at most. Rivals user ratings puts him at 4 stars right now.
Daniel Gray is a good pickup as well. With Leggett, Gray, probably Deon Bush and possibly Brian Poole and/or Tracy Howard, our DB class should be amazing.
