There are the 14 teams ahead of the Dolphins, post your first, pre Combine Mock Draft: Carolina (2-14) Da'Quan Bowers, least likely to bust. Denver (4-12) Nick Fairley, John Fox will run the 4-3 no matter what. Buffalo (4-12) AJ Green, Lee Evans is leaving Cincinnati (4-12) Cam Newton, Palmer is leaving Arizona (5-11) Von Miller Cleveland (5-11) Patrick Patterson San Francisco (6-10) Cameron Jordan Tennessee (6-10) Blaine Gabbert Dallas (6-10) Prince Akamura Washington (6-10) Ryan Mallet Houston (6-10) JJ Watt Minnesota (6-10) Colin Kaepernick Detroit (6-10) Nate Solder St. Louis (7-9) Julio Jones Miami (7-9)??? Well, that is high for Kapernick, however with Shanahan going with Mallet as the next Cutler, it is CK or Locker, and to me CK is the better prospect, looking at this the real wildcards are the Bills and Bengals and maybe the Cowboys. I also think the Rams will trade back which will mess us up, but the #2 Wr in this draft is not very different from the #3 Wr. Texans need a Safety but there really are none in this draft worth that pick, so they go DE to bolster their move to the 3-4, Solder to the Lions is fluid as the best Left Tackle has really yet to distinguish themselves it could as easily be Gabe Carimi as Nate Solder. The Browns could go with Julio Jones, however Cb Eric Wright is a FA and they need a better Cb to match up with Joe Haden imo
Hmm, are you feeling the power of the darkside Alen? I think Locker slides and CP winds up in Minny as he is the last Qb on the board that has shown anything like Franchise Qb skills. As for CK for us..not seeing it at all, he does not fit what they like to do on offense, our problem is by the time #15 rolls around the only positions that have not had someone taken is Te and Guard and Running Back Safety and Center, and none of the prospects this yr are a good value at #15, maybe Ingram but I've heard him described as a 4.65 guy. Marcel Darius would still be on my board at #15, but we are stacked on the Dline, but Tackle could be an option with the loser of the Solder/Carimi derby being our man at #15 as taking a running back that high in the draft has never been in the Parcells draft model. Now if the Redskins surprise everyone and take Jake Locker, it would not surprise me if we went with Ryan Mallet.
Ingram could run a 4.65 and I wouldn't care. He plays with pad stability. I hate running backs high, however. I hate wide receivers high too. Only guy I would do an exception for in this draft is AJ Green. If it was up to me, I would trade down and pick up extra picks. JMHO though.
Well, the thing is that would be the ideal, but the CBA will have a huge impact on trades as no GM can just giveaway picks to move up in the only arena that they KNOW they can acquire more talent in, meaning if we trade back it would be for cheap in terms of 2011 draft picks, but we could pick up 2012 picks cheaply imo. I think our problem is the #15 pick does not offer the value that we require to improve for 2011, no game changing Free Safety, no potentially dominant ILB, no outstanding Guards either. We are in a sort of no man's land in terms of talent on the board at that point, which is why Mallet would make sense as if he hits, we have a home run, otherwise we wind up with a servicable player, but not an outstanding player imo. Which is why if the Chargers or Broncos offered their #2's we should hop all over that deal as we could then inject talent on the offense, say Wisniewski and Leshoure.
Oh I completely agree. I dislike the middle pick. I wouldn't take him. You can't force the pick and you have to be sold on it. I'm not sold on Mallett.
This is the way I look at it: 1. If we draft a QB at 15 with this draft class, I'd be pissed 2. If Julio Jones is available, we better take him. This would solve so many problems on offense: It gets us a true number 2 receiver and a playmaker with 1 pick. 3. If Jones isn't available, I want to trade down in the 1st and pick up a 2nd. 4. If we don't trade down and we draft Mark Ingram or Mike Pouncey, I would be fine with that, because both seem like good, solid picks even if they are reaches
Well, of course we do not know what they think of Mallet, and he falls slightly short of "Parcells Rules for Drafting Qb's" however in our situation he makes the most sense unless they plan on taking a Tackle and moving Carey inside, even still from a value standpoint that is not a large bang for the buck move. To me, Mallet or an impact OLB are likely to be the best value moves as there will still be 3 or 4 really top flight OLB/De types on the board at #15.
If the draft went that way I would be all over maybe best player in this draft Marcel Darius. Maybe trade Langford or Starks for a high pick next year or trade Darius to Denver for Orton and their 2nd or parlay Darius into a 1st rounder next year.
No CBA=No player trades. And why make a hole then try to fill it with an unproven player? Well, one fun thing about this yr's draft from a Dolphins Fan pov is, we could go in any direction and have it work out. Qb, OLB, Running Back, Wr, Tackle or whomever, it is hard to go wrong with nearly anyone we select.
