Titans issue statement: "As many of you have heard, we are in the process of becoming legends here in Tennessee. With the addition of Wes Welker, believe the door is now completely open for a certain legendary quarterback to enter our arena. Unfortunately for Mr. Finnegan, it came at a cost. We appreciate everything Cortland has done here over the years, but at the end of the day his success mirrored that of Jeff Fisher. We need players who can succeed at the highest level. We didn't feel like Cortland could compete with the bigger wide receivers in this league. After watching Andre Johnson toss him around like a rag doll for the past few years, the decision just kinda made itself. We are happy with where we are headed as an organization, and would like to encourage the fans to begin celebrating early this year. The silver football on a stick is going to be ours this year!"
Teams have 48 hours to bid on a franchised player once FA starts. At the end of that period, the original team has the option to outbid the highest offer and pass on the compensation of two 1st round picks.
so basically you're just doing what I did last year when I had manning with an 18m cap number? Copycat
I wasn't getting anything higher than a late 4th round pick offered for him and I had a few teams interested in him. Plus I save $860,000 by getting rid of his contract and bringing in a 3rd round pick.
I think 6-7 teams were interested and 3-4 teams offered. I got a couple offers for 4th round picks and I got a few player for player offers, but the only way I was moving Stewart was for a draft pick higher than the 4th round. ^Yeah, since I franchised DeAngelo, that leaves me with 3 RBs that are capable of starting imo. Stewart had the most value between him and Goosdon, so I dealt him.
I thought both Stewart and gore got about what they should have. If gore is a better running back and only got pick 51 for alen then that's the market and about what Stewart should have fetched.
I will tell you what he needs to do. He needs to acquire TWO extra first round picks. Then he can come to me with his 3 first rounders in hand. That will be a good starting point in a package for Peyton. Anything short of that will result in me matching ANY offer GISH or anyone else makes for Peyton. Anyone who seriously thinks I'll let Peyton walk for 2 first round picks alone is off their rocker.
Considering your current cap situation, which you have listed incorrectly on your page, you wont have much say in the matter. Your current team salary should be $85,210,000 with Peyton included, $74,490,000 without Peyton. Either way youve got a lot of cap space to clear to afford him. I've got $15M to spend on him so far. I intend on spending at least $20M.
Who will stop the Titans offense led by Peyton Manning, Chris Johnson, Kenny Brit, Wes Welker, and Nate Washington?
remember that Jason Brown bidding I did a couple seasons back... yup, I just may very well join in on the Manning Sweepstakes
Like I said, I plan on matching the offer. If want him badly enough, you will do what you need to do to get.....which I've spelled out clearly right here:
Yes! When I spend, I know how to spend! QB = 50% of my team salary, or I'll use VY as the wildcart RB/QB
well, its a win/win for me. if you match my ridiculous offer, it cripples you cap-wise, while leaving me tons of money and draft picks to spend.
In the spirit of delusion that has swept the Peyton Manning topic, I’ll chime in: you can have my #6 overall pick for your #1 overall pick and Jeff Otah.
Soooo i have yet to see a bidding war on a franchised player. But if team Gish bids 30mill and the colts have to match isnt that just a tad unfair since no other team is bidding? Gish Davis!
The Colts have options. They are as follows... Its up to the Colts to decide. Lose everything and keep Manning, or lose Manning and gain everything. When an alltime great becomes a free agent, sometimes a bullied rival will do whatever it takes to turn the tables. The Titans have been second fiddle to the Colts for long enough. If they want to remain on top, they will pay the price for greatness. That price is more than $10M.
