That's what people don't seem to get. There was absolutely zero foundation in place here when they took over. 2008 was the throwaway year and going 11-5 and winning the division while great hurt us more than it helped. We could have used another year of high end draft picks. What people fail to realize is that not only are there only 5 players still on the team from 04-07 but there are only 18 players still on the team from the 2008 squad that. And of those 18 guys like Ronnie, Ricky, Fasano, Carey, Allen, Crowder and even Henne have uncertain futures in Miami past this season. The true rebuild of this team happened in 2009 and in 2010 and we have to give them the time to put it all together before we make hasty decisions.

Hmm, I don't see it that way, to me the Jets made a huge gamble that they would win now, and while the did win now, they fell short of the goal in the NFL, now of their 25 starters, 7 are FA's 2 Wr's, 1 KR, 1 ILB, 1 Db, all deserving of large contracts but not enough cap space to fill the holes, add in their Oline had it's first cracks this past season, a trend that will only grow.

Exactly, first the Defense, then the Offense, few people realize that is what is happening and to stay around .500 ball in the AFCE is a solid accomplishment.

I would agree with that if we'd shown any indications that we are capable of building a team that can do better than 3rd place.

Mediocity isn't enough for me to buy in. It may be good for you, but regular third out of four teams doesn't work for me.

Blind squirrels and nuts. It bought Sparano his time, and, I am always for keeping a coach in place for four years, no matter what the sport.
4 years I think is a benchmark of where you are. Do you really see the Dolphins competing for the AFCE title legitimately? I don't.

Depends, what happens at Qb and with the Running Game pretty much will dictate what will happen in 2011.

Right now, both are huge unknowns I'd like to see us add Hunt and Owens to strengthen the passrush and special teams, those are two moves that have to happen and they can be done cheaply and soon.

To top it off neither of them said anything. People are acting like they were calling the man out. They both just said things that were at best critiques. Neither said he was over his head. Plus with Williams, you have to take his word like a very emotional woman. This the same guy who told Wanny to run him 30 times a game and then quit because of it. Ricky Williams is like your girlfriend who asked you for chocolates for Valentines day and then throws them at you because they make you fat.

It bought Sparano his time, but come on man, there's no way you can attribute that success to what was in place before he got here. If that's the case don't you think Cameron would have done better than 1-15 or Saban better than 6-10 in his second year? You have to give credit where credit is due here.

Thank you. I wish I could give you 5 fist pumps for that. It's succinct, efficient and completely descriptive.

I think the baseline that was built simply with the coaching change coupled with the easy schedule, coupled with the team simply not capable of doing any worse got us where we went. Cameron made a number of critical errors from day 1 pretty much, and, it showed that he doesn't pack the gear to be an HC.

That is seriously trying to avoid giving credit where credit is due, don't you think? You mention the coaching change, the coach that was brought in that won those 11 games. You claim we had an easy schedule, I point out that they were teams that we weren't able to beat in the previous 4 years. And to say that we weren't capable of doing any worse doesn't explain how we won 11 games. I know one year doesn't make an entire coaching career, but come on man, you can't pretend like Sparano's prescence hasn't had some sort of impact.

We can no longer beat those teams. Is that something to simply ignore? Even younger teams like KC and Tampa can beat those teams. Which is why they won ten games and we did not.

I never said that it hasn't. He is certainly an improvement. But at the same time, you have to look at some things that are bothersome. And it's not all on Tony, either. I believe he is a leader of men, and, a reasonably good HC. But do you see a team treasureing him enough to name him HC? I don't.

    Ok..Maybe the Raiders.

i think the worst thing that happened to this regime was that we made the playoffs in year 1 ..... it changes your thinking, drafting and FAs .... as you are deluded into thinking that you are 'that' close to being there, when we really weren't. Hence, why a '3' year plan can turn into a 4/5 year plan ....

why last year they realised their mistake and jettisoned Smiley and Grove - knowing that they weren't part of the future.

what Trowa is exactly right on .... is that we absolutely do have a nice foundation to build on (yes, mostly on D), knowing we have to plug up to 2 holes on the OL and a couple playmakers on O and another on D. No one likes it - but i still think it prudent to give Henne 1 more year ... but bring in another back-up to compete (get rid of Thiggy); heck even look at Charlie Batch. And if he doesn't get it this year, sell out in the draft next year for that 'QB' .... but by then, we'll have a great D and solid O that can carry a rookie with some playmakers if need be.

Well to be fair we didnt beat the good teams in 2008 either. We beat two teams with a better then 500 record that whole year, the Jets in the last game and New England in the Wildcat game. We lost a lot of games this year to teams that are more talented and we lost some because of bad QB play, some because we just werent good enough, and one vs Pitt because of officiating and nothing more.

On a different note, we need to be a little nicer to each other here. I understand we have differing viewpoints in many cases but this place was built with a respect for one another as a core piece of how we post around here. With some of the new posters coming in and some of the old posters moving away from that mentality we have gotten away from that. And that shouldnt be the case. We are all Dolphins fans here. Some of you have posted together for 4-5-6 years. Ive known some of you for as long as 10 years. Speak to people the way you wish to be spoken to. I had to delete a handful of posts in this thread for no other reason then the fact that the language used had nothing to do with football and instead just a back and forth exchange over differing viewpoints. Completely unnecessary.

Not so much you bro. I tend to move to my own beat as well and not everyone will always agree with how I see things but its not always what you say but how you say it. Disagreement is fine, its what makes a message board a message board. All we ask is that its said with a degree of respect for each other.

I meant we can no longer beat the bad teams. For two seasons we knew we would probably beat bad teams at the very least. That all fell apart this past season.

Well, several players will be FA's very soon as their opt outs are timed for after the SB is played.

I'm adamant about Chad Owens and Phillip Hunt though, Ireland really should pull the trigger.
