    Bottom line? How so?

Of course the ultimate goal of any NFL franchise is to win Championships. However, out of the roughly 22,000 games that have been played in the NFL over the last 44 years, only 44 of those games have been the Super Bowl. To demand, or even expect, that your ONE favorite team will win even ONE of those games is asking a whole lot.

    The Dolphins have won 2.

Realistically as a fan, all I EXPECT or DEMAND is to be competitive. Over the Dolphins entire history, there have only been a handful of years when they weren't. if some want to dwell on that handful, have at it. I, however, will look at the entire picture.

It's not like we're just fans to be fans. Of course we all want the Dolphins to be in the Super Bowl. Some teams have it far worse than us but what we've seen for the last 8 years is bad.

But what are we supposed to do? Stand up to the team and tell them win the Super Bowl or else?

It's not like I could ever root for another NFL Team. That's not happening. I'm here thru thick and thin because this is the team I chose. Til death do I part.

But it does mean something. That's over 25 years of not going to a Super Bowl.

I don't expect them to listen to fans, but I do expect them to not make as many mistakes - many of which fans themselves would not have made. I think the fans could have run this team to just about the same record as our "so called expert football minds" have done in the last 10 years.

What ? Who says I or anyone critical of this team, doesn't root for them ? I lose my voice watching almost every game. Don't call out others just because they don't follow your "goose step loyalty" BS. They have a right to their opinion. I know that goes against your "training" but this is not the military on this forum, and you need to accept that others can, and should have a different opinion than yours, and that loyalty to an organization does not mean you are not allowed to critize it. That is democracy, something you are supposed to be defending, not quashing with your bully mentality.

Hey dude I have been a fan a since 1971 and i have seen this team go 17-0 and i have seen 1-15.2000 was the worst decade this team has had with only 3 playoff apperances not even one conference championship game.Do not shoot us older fans who want to win now because we are in touch with are mortality. If this team wins a superbowl before i die i will probally cry with joy.
The sad thing for me is i don't see this team going anywhere next year and the coach will be fired and we will be rebuilding all over again putting us back another 2-3 years.

I'm not shooting anyone and especially the older fans. I also was around during the 17-0 season. I went to every single home game in the 70's and most of the 80's, 90's and up until two seasons ago. I'm simply saying there are only a few options that we can control. We either stick with them, leave for what, we think, are greener pastures, or quit being fans.

We all want to win now. Younger and older, and then win again, and again. It's our nature.

As an older fan, I have mellowed with expectations which does not mean I don't complain about things and I'm in no way saying you should sit back and say nothing. But again, we only have a few options that we can control.

It really irks me that the fans who want the team to win wont even show up for the games. Maybe we were 1-7 at home because we had no homefield advantage. Would that ever happen in Pittsburgh or Green Bay? Even the Seahawks manage to have a packed house on sundays, and they usually suck.

When there are other options that provide more entertainment value in an area, it's hard to draw to a poor product.

Would you rather live in Miami, Pittsburgh, or Green Bay? I'll wait.

But GISH does have a point Garryowen. Granted it's two different venues, but teams dreaded coming to play in Miami at the Orange Bowl where the noise was deafening. The crowd played a key role in distracting opposing teams.

Now with fans thumbing their noses with a "pfft, I'd rather go do this, that or the other", where's the home field advantage?

Look at Seattle and their new stadium, new attitude, etc...the raising the flag of the 12th Man in the one endzone. Seattle is DEFINITELY an unfriendly place to play and it's paid off with Seattle becoming a quiet success story. Seattle's fan base has given the Seahawks a homefield advantage.

Something for Dolphins fans to consider.

Different generations BK. Different generations. When you sever traditional bonds (OB) and the older fans gradually attrit away....You get what you have.

Oh here we go with the "its all the fans fault".....give me a break. The Dolphins have sucked because our organization sucked, and has SUCKED THE LIFE OUT OF THE FANS. The 1990's with all those winning seasons it was the fans fault then too ? Maybe if the Dolphins won more than 1 game in the last 10 we'd have more noise at the stadium. You are crazy if you expect people to just blindly keep selling out that stadium with the way they have been playing. Next year if there are blackouts, for the 1st time ever I will not blame the fans one iota.

Exactly, we have fans (what is left of them) who if they are under the age of 20 don't even know of the Dolphins being a real force in the playoffs. With all the mass defections of fans from South Fla, the old Miami people, the ones born & Raised here, that has left a void, especially in Miami-Dade County. Then you had Miami-o-phobic Huizenga as the owner. He wouldn't allow even one single Dolphinoff-field event to ever take place in Miami-Dade County. REAL SMART OF HIM !!! Way to build up a fan base, crater-face ! There was not one single visit that I know of by a Dolphin player to a school in Miami-Dade in the 18 or so years he owned the team. Nor was there any one of those "community goody-goody" events (like the Dolphins buying the groceries with the kids for Thanksgiving) ever held at a Miami-Dade Publix. And none of the kids were ever kids from Dade that I ever saw. Same with the awards banquet.....can someone tell me during Huizenga's time if it was held in Miami-Dade or always every year in Broward ??? No if you want to look at why the fanbase has dwindled, especially in Miami-Dade look no farther than Huizenga.

Please someone try to refute this, I'm dying to hear your story.

Correct. I know of no other area where people are expected to blindly follow than sports.

I love my team, but until they show me they are reasonably competant at what they do,
I'll withold complete support. Now, if we were playing meaningful football every, or at least most years?
I'm more willing to buy in. But we are in complete disarray and to have complete faith is just..silly, IMO

The organization has been run poorly. Ross is trying, and, I give him credit for that....But, he's going about it the wrong way, IMO.
In Green Bay, "Packer Football" is king. There is no other thing, and, not only are they publicly owned, but everyone understands that the
fans have a real voice in running the franchise. Generations are brought up in the same stadium, and, that powerful unmistakeable bond is built father to son, mother to daughter over, and, over and over again.

We don't have that as an organization.

Other than football and cheese what is there to do in Green Bay? In Pittsburgh other than sports there is nothing. For the most part the ability to identify with a team died with free agency. This means you need faces(s) for the franchise. Jason Taylor & Zach Thomas were the last faces the franchise has had. Now you have Channing Crowder. A guy who flaps his gums and is average at best. It makes it hard to identify with the team as a younger fan. And us old guys hold on to the past. Not to make this a Henne thread but if he was more vocal he would be more liked IMO.

Pittsburgh is actually a great American city. It's lots like Chicago in many ways. It's recycled itself and come full circle in my lifetime.

That said, I wouldn't live there. I love TX. What Pittsburgh does, is hold onto an identity of being a blue collar, likeable team that plods forwards with the symbol as everyone understanding the product they will get. Same with the Bears. With that, there is an investment, emotionally with the people as the bond only strengthens during down times, because there's an inherant trust that's built up with the organization and the fans.

    The Dolphins don't have that.

After Shula we are:Johnson, Wanny, Bates, Saban, Cameron, Sparano. The organization lost identity as other than Johnson & Wanny each one had a different philosophy and no one was/has been around long enough to put one in place (ok maybe Wanny and his was the QB is an evil necessity). From a players standpoint there is too much turmoil here and they are only coming for the money and that they can get almost anywhere.

That's true, but what other activities do they have in Green Bay.... NOTHING. In September, you're doing nothing but going to Packer games. There is nothing else to do. Not so in south Florida. You need something exciting to bring in the younger fan base, otherwise there's always something else to do.

That's my point. You need to win, and, tradition breeds trust, trust breeds tradition.

For instance..The 82nd. It's a proud unit with a fine heritage. It's instilled from the time
you enter the organization, and, you have faith in it's combat worthiness always, through bad leaders
or good. But, the organization breeds good leaders because it's a good organization.

    Like the Steelers..Like Green Bay.

Not like the Dolphins, who are more like say, 4th Infantry.

The Dolphins minority owners have been in 4 Super Bowls, does that count? Gloria Estefan has performed in 3 halftimes and Fergie 1. That may just be sad though that they've been on the SB field more than our team has during the past 25 years. At this rate the Dolphins will never catch Gloria. Catching Fergie even seems like a stretch.

I'm actually from the Washington DC area and I would say that's exactly what happens there. They have no problem selling out and certainly there's plenty to do in DC, maybe not as much as Miami, but we're not alone in that expectation.

(And I think complete disarray would define that organization even better than our own as of late).

    Here and there
Yes those new guy Browns.....it was in fact an expanstion team. From top to bottom, Owner, GM coaching staff and players. What don't you understand? If it wasn't for Art Modell agreeing to Cleveland keeping the records and history they wouldn't have that either. IF the same Owner, GM coaching staff and players where in LA..you'd call it an expansion team right? But because the city got to keep the history they are not new? They also got the expansion draft and picked #1 over all..hmmm what would you call them? Would you rather call the Ravens the new franchise with the old owner the olde GM old players? Because all the "old guy Browns" from top to bottom were in Baltimore with new fangled stadium uniforms and fans..and guess what? THEY WON A SUPERBOWL.
