This is really sad when you see teams like the bucs and the saints have rings and its a pipe dream for us to even consider making the superbowl next year. How the mighty have fallen. Here are the other teams in our sad state of affairs.
    Lions
    vikes
    jets
    browns
    jags
    texans
    chiefs
This is the reason some of us older guys have run out of patience.

100% exactly right. I know what the Dolphins organization once was and to say its a shell of its former selves is a monumental understatement. We were THEE CLASS of the NFL for many years and now we cant seem to right the ship. Its depressing and heartbreaking to say the least. Damn,do I miss the guy in my avitar. Its hard to believe we`re in that group of eight "also rans ".

Ironically, panicking by the organization (ie. listening to fans who are losing patience) would most likely extend that SB missing streak.

Well, to be fair 4 of those teams have NEVER been to a Super Bowl. And there are a total of 14 teams that have never WON a Super Bowl. In the overall relatively short period of time in Super Bowl history the Dolphins, with 2 wins and 5 appearances, have done just fine.

We are not in the group of those 8 "also rans". This 1985 until now timeframe means nothing.

What if I said, "There are 30 teams in the NFL that haven't seen a Super Bowl in 1 year and we are one of them. Boo-hoo". lol

I used to have the exact same attitude towards my beloved Dolphins. I used to wave the aqua and orange pom poms and get very defensive when someone belittled my team. As you get older reality sets in. There are only so many "next year"`s one can handle. So,if you choose to stay positive thats fine- but dont knock someone who`s been there done that for more years than you`ve been alive.

I was going to ask what the hell this actually means but I rather not know.

    (edit)
Wait a minute here I had to go back and edit my post. ARE YOU SERIOUS?????? How can you say that 25 years of not playing in a super bowl mean nothing???? Easy on those push-ups pal, let the blood circulate back to the brain. :wink2:

And the Jags, Browns and Texans are fairly new to the league within the last 15 years.

Bieng a fan isn't just rooting for your team when they are winning. How do you think Lions fans feel, for example?

I'm not really defensive toward them. I don't care much about them because I can't do anything about their losing ways. I do try to offer constructive criticism ( I guess you can call it that?) or my opinion on what's wrong instead of just saying "we suck ***!". I think we all know this teams struggles here. How would this board be if we all just sat around and posted threats that said, "Did you know that we have sucked since the day Marino retired?", or "Did you know that we haven't won **** since so and so?".

I try to learn from others here by reading their opinions. That's my goal here, at least.

To me part of the fun of being a fan is debating on the things that can make this team better. Football wouldn't be much fun if the Dolphins won the Super Bowl every year. All good franchises have their up and down periods.

Give them another ten years of this crap and we will see how positive they are.
When get older you start thinking that you would like to see just one more superbowl before you die.

Winning organizations are the exception not the rule. The media & fan base doesn't have the patience or forgiveness to build a winning team. If you can't do it by year 2-3 you suck. If the Jets don't bring it home next year they will feast on Rex's carcass, the fan base is quickly turning in Detroit on Schwartz. All the while many owners knee jerk and jump at the big name to fill the seats rather than bringing in good football people and putting a structure in place.

Up until 1985 Miami had 2 superbowl wins in 5 superbowl appearances an undefeated season and only one losing season. In 19 seasons.

Exactly! The Dolphins have played in 1 out of every 9 Super Bowls. There are at least 20 other teams that WISH they were the Miami Dolphins.

Steelers don't win every year. They had a great decade in the 1970's and they are having another great decade now. Not being able to comprehend what I wrote doesn't make it stupid.

AND............No super bowl appearances.!!!!! Isnt that the goal of NFL teams ?? To build a Super Bowl caliber team??? I understand its only a business to some owners but from day one of training camp all teams have a common goal- otherwise why bother.

Are you upset that its the Browns or that i put them in as a "fairly new team"? Because they were an expansion team when the original Browns and org. moved to Baltimore.

But why????? Oh,I get it, because of there history. THATS EXACTLY THE POINT WE`RE MAKING HERE. Surely no other team is jealous of these Dolphins. The Dolphins were good, they are not good now. Thats what this entire thread is all about.

From 1933 to 1971 the Steelers had 30 .500 or worse seasons with 1 playoff appearance. 38 years. ;)

How many games have you watched hoping that the other team will beat us? How many seasons have you gone into hoping that we don't win a Super Bowl? I'm sure John Wooden hated 1967 to 1973, seems like a miserable time to be a UCLA basketball fan.

None. I root for the Dolphins every game. However, if the Dolphins win the Super Bowl for the next 10 years straight I probably would lose interest. The DOlphins will have another good decade. A 3 to 4 Super Bowl winning decade would be awesome.

I agree with this idea (I think that I could still bring myself around to watching the dolphins during that 10 year span though), but I'd MUCH rather be winning it every year than to be in our current situation.

From 1933 to 1971 they never had any success therefore they had nothing to look back on and say we once were..thats what this thread is about. Trust me Steeler fans were saying the same thing we are even after their loss to Dallas in the superbowl. a proud franchise that cant win the big one anymore...you don't think 49er fans are getting itchy for success. Or Dallas fans? And they have two sets of dynastys.

And nobody is saying they won't be a fan..

lol...I'd still watch. I just wouldn't be that excited. The Dolphins are in a down period. We've had 2 really good decades out of 4.

Look at the Patriots. Even with all of their current success the Dolphins still have a better overall winning %. From 1960 to 1995 the Pats had 7 seasons that led to the playoffs. 35 years, no Super Bowl wins and 17 losing seasons.

Yeah, and why did you start at 1985? Because it conveniently leaves Miami out of the SB.

Since 1984 only 7 teams have not reached the SB, and one of them AINT Miami....
