Serviceable.... he is that or can be , that however is different than being the guy you win with.

He has some value but if don't feel after three years you need to be looking for the QB to lead you through a playoff run because Henne is him , that is a foolish outlook imo.

he said serviceable hardly a ringing endorsement - is that all you want a serviceable QB?

He was an idiot for not praising Henne in the first place, and now he's a hero for suggesting Henne stick around.

Serviceable means you can win with him with a solid D and the PROPER supporting cast and coaching. Sorry, I'm not like you--- I don't want to just pluck one of the plethora of guys dangling from the franchise QB tree...... you know, the tree that doesn't exist.

I am somewhat hoping that we do go with more 4 Wr looks so Henne can know the joy of the pain he has inflicted on Dolfans for 2yrs now..I'm thinking a Cutler like beating...

So far, Eli Manning has been just "serviceable". Anyone know if he has one of those fancy-smancy Super Bowl rings? ;)

You mean like in the Oakland game? That was the best gameplan we had all season. It was mostly 4 WR sets no?

    Kiper's opinion makes no sense.

He says that the guy is basically the same inconsistent guy he was at Michigan and will never improve mobility but it's too soon to move on?

What exactly does Kiper think is going to happen this off season that didn't happen during 4 years at Michigan and 3 years here?

No problem, just call 1-800-FranchiseQB, thats what all the good teams do. I hear they deliver, 30 minutes or less or your next Franchise QB if 50% off.

The same thing that happens to a lot of 2nd+ round QBs who don't come out NFL ready like Matt Ryan------ they develop.

3 wr's iirc, but the Raiders kept giving a man to man look with a terrible Cb playing, so Henne just took advantage.

That is sort of the danger with Henne, he can look really good, the next week he looks terrible, Coaches being optimistic focus on the good and eventually get fired, perhaps that is why Nolan said he should have stuck with Shaun Hill over Alex Smith in SF.

Yeah, we should just forget about trying to improve the most important position on the team.

It's too hard and costs too much.

Let's just continue on trying to build an all star team around the mediocre QB we have now. Of course, if those all stars get hurt or elave via free agency we're pretty much screwed but whatever, the alternative is just too darn dificult.

He hasn't developed much in 7 years. He isn't all that different from the freshman who started for Michigan.

I like Henne, but sorry, that Oakland game was some idiot Raiders coaches more than game planning. Insisting on man coverage when the whole league knew we couldnt do jack vs Cover 2 was criminal negligence. Henne always plays well vs man, going back to last year. The only teams who played man vs us this year all paid for it (Raiders, Jets, Packers). Everyone else played zone and did pretty well with it.

I still have the 2009 home game vs the Jets on my DVR. It amazes me how well he played in that game. Imagine if he was that serviceable every game, we would probably be talking about how to beat the packers in 2 weeks.

That game has to be Henne's best complete game as an NFL quarterback. Catching Cam on the bootleg on 4th down, the bomb to Ginn, the floaty touch pass to Cam on the sideline that slipped right in perfectly....oh man, im getting goosebumps. Why cant he keep it together like this for every game? I went out and bought a Henne jersey after that game, it has now since been retired next to my collection of Taylor, Pennington, and probably Brown jerseys.

Just imagine if Henne played every game like that 2009 Jets home game? What did we do differently? Is it all on Henne? Ugh! I thought it was a coming out party! SMH

So what you're saying is Henne should've skipped college and jumped right from high school to starting in the NFL? Damn.... that's pretty talented.

some guys on here seem to forget 1 thing - there is a salary cap - how many more big contracts can we add before you start losing your depth???how bout finding a good enough QB to win with a couple allstars instead of needing a whole team of them to win!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mel Kiper hates us and is trying to destroy us by nudging for Henne to keep playing for us.

Number one we had a running game. 2 we had a deep threat. 3 the Jets were blitzing, in man, or in 3's most of the night. No cover 2 to speak of. Henne's good games and bad games arent accident or coincidence, its based on the looks he's getting and whether he has the tools to defeat them. Man coverage, single high zones he's pretty good. Shell looks, not so much. Hopefully we'll add some speed and work on Henne's game so that we can defeat all coverages and not just the ones we like.

And some people, not naming names, do NOT understand that finding a proper cast does NOT mean that you need to break the bank doing so. Proper cast means just that--- proper freakin cast. This draft has plenty of guys who fit Henne's skill set who will not impact our salary cap in any way shape or form...... but maybe you're one of these delusional guys who believe that the skill players dont matter or that you can just plug any WR/TE/RB into any scheme and it'll work just fine no matter what the QBs strengths are.

The only thing you got right is needing a whole team to win..... but apparently you don't truly understand that concept b/c you think we're fine with our current group of non-playmaking, slow-poke possession guys.

Kiper lost all credibility when he was arguing with the Colts. He's nothing more then the first guy to have his opinion on ESPN.

Just most of those keep getting better each year. henne hasn't done that.

Seems like anyone who doesn't have the same lovefest you have for henne is "Delusional". Maybe we have all the pieces we need except one......the QB. Just maybe henne is a non-playmaking, slow-poke QB.

Maybe YOU'VE never taken a good look at our offense or listened to what this organization or experts around the league have said. WE NEED SPEED & PLAYMAKERS.

To think that we have all the pieces except one is unbelievably delusional...... and if you think either Cam, Locker, or Mallett is the missing QB with the cast we currently have, then you are sorely mistaken.

Oh I've taken a real good look and I said we've needed playmakers for two years now. You will never find a post of me saying any of those rookies would be better then henne. I would rather see one of them then henne though. I do know henne isn't the answer because I have seen it, listened to what the players and experts around the league have said.

It's never too soon to kick Chad Henne to the curb. Hell, the sooner the better. By the way, isn't Mel the same guy who ripped us a couple of years ago for taking Henne over Matt Ryan?

Henne needs speed and playmakers around him. The Jets 2009 game is an example. Ginn was a playmaker in that game, he came to play. Cam/Brown/Williams/Fasano were playmakers in that game.

and he is the douche that was trying to get everybody to see that Casey Clausen would be the next great ex-ND QB. He was pushing the Brady Quinn "must be picked" bull**** also. He is nothing more than some asshat who gets paid to offer his opinion. We do the same thing on here for free, and I think more highly of most of the posters opinions.

Of course it's not what you strive for.
having said that however, finding even serviceable QB's are not a given in the NFL.
It means that in no way do you scrap the kid. You work with him, challenge him and get the most you can out of him while you continue a search for that "top guy". Some people on this board just assume anyone will be better than Henne and I can tell you that's absurd.

We should continue working with him to reach the top of whatever talent level he has.
There are enough questions about him though that we should be seriously looking at investing in other prospects.
Why is this middle ground so unnacceptable for some?
Some think QB's grow on trees and immediately develop?

Jimmy Clausen. Anyways, Mel is often wrong more than he is right, but it's hard to disagree with him when you look at how Matt Ryan's career has unfolded versus Henne's.

    Agreed.
    This team has other issues.
    We've all known that though.
Where this "QB away from a championship" mentality has come from all of a sudden is puzzling.

Oops..I meant Jimmy, oh well. As to Ryan v. Henne, I suspect that had Ryan been drafted by Miami, our coaching staff would have destroyed him and we would be having the same discussions.
