Old football fans, can you explain to me why couldn't the Bills win one of those four Super Bowls?

Its simple really: because they are the Bills, they suck.

Seriously I believe its because the suffered the same fate every team that relies soley on a high powered offense does, their weak defense gets exposed sooner or later and opposing defenses figure out how to stop them.

That and you guys really needed another defensive star other than Bruce Smith.

The Bills were really only unlucky once. They were the slightly better team when Norwood missed that FG, but every other time they were simply not as good as the NFC teams.

    Hammer meet nail!

They did have the 6th ranked defense during their first Super Bowl, but the Giants defense was ranked 1st. In their second and thrid Super Bowls their defense was ranked 19th and 14th, respectively. In their fourth Super Bowl their defense was ranked 5th, but they played the Cowboys who had the 2nd ranked defense.

Once again proving that defense wins championships. :pointlol:

Yes and if you look at the Colts, Polian has built them pretty similar. Example: Dwight Freeney=Bruce Smith. One really good pass rusher and the rest are average defenders(Bob Sanders is never healthy). Polian is very good are putting together great offenses and hiring the right coaching staff to coach them. But his defenses have always been spotty. The year the Colts won in 06 their defense was played better than usual but still wasn't all that impressive, just played good enough to win. The Bills never really had a good defense. Yes their first SB team was pretty highly ranked but they also were known to blow leads. Offensively, though, you see why no one runs the Run and Shoot in the NFL anymore.

You didn't think Cornelius Bennett and Daryl Talley were good players?

More great points. If Polian were to get Manning a consistent defense, and rushing game, I can only imagine the number of Super Bowl rings he'd have.

You have to be able to pass and stop the pass. If you look at all four of their losses the Bills decent at stopping the pass but in every case not as good as their SB opponent. And despite the reputation the Bills were not as efficient at passing as the 3 of the 4 SB opponents. They were more efficient offensively than the Giants, but the Giants were much better at stopping the pass and the Giant's differential was better (although not by a ton and the game was predictably close).

As for the Colt's comparison, I think its a good one. Polian seems to value the pass rusher but not the secondary (or maybe he's just not as good at finding them). IMO that has been the weak link in all of those SB teams.

The truth is they didn't have the right people spy on the other teams. That came a decade later from another AFCE team.

Well the Jets are like the Bills of the 90s - except with less talent and they lose AFC Championship games instead of Super Bowls. Or do they need to lose a 3rd straight before it can be considered similar?

Buffalo is a town full of LOSERS. Its a loser town with a loser mentality. They lost every single game to the Miami Dolphins in the 70s because they are losers. They lost 4 Superbowls cause they are losers. They lost the Music City Miracle because they are losers. They haven't been relevant in the NFL for 15 years because they are losers.

Buffalo is a pathetic town full of pathetic losers. I hope that answers your question.
