Tyler Thigpen is a free agent this year. Should we sign him to another contract or dump him for someone else??
It's really not that hard to find a back up QB that would **** their pants the way he did vs Chicago.... let him walk
Let's see... Do we need a QB who barely reads the D and takes off running if he doesn't immediately see a Receiver sitting under an umbrella, waiting for his pass? Well, then...by all means!
Well you marry Penninton as he is loyal. You kill Thigpen for the Chicago game. You F Henne wait...... oops wrong thread.
Here's the formula. Take the total number of points he put up in his start against Chicago, multiply that times 643. Divide that by 3. You should get a binary answer between 1 and 0. If 0, then No. If 1, then Yes.
Thigpen came off the bench and led a late 85 yard TD drive against the Titans. I like that in a BACKUP QB.
He might want to start fresh and i have no problem with that,I just think henn could be a very good back up instead of letting him go like most people want.We did waste a 2nd on him. Lets get a Qb and let them battle it out.
Henne has lost the trust of his teammates, and more importantly his #1 WR. Chad Pennington's shoulder is held together with scotch tape and Elmer's glue. Yet he still thinks he can sling it ala Brett Favre. Tyler Thigpen is an average backup at best. Why wouldn't you want to send these guys to the scrap heap?
he could be a decent backup............he isnt that good.....you guys have never seen him play...you are going by what you hear from the media.....he had one good quarter and you guys thought he was the savior!! Then you got sent back to reality when he stunk up the joint against the Bears. You had that knee jerk reaction like always and you filled the radio air waves clammering for him to start. Apparently by reading these blogs, you continue to rant and rave to thigpen to start!!
we ran the ball six times that night thirteen total if you count Thig's runs 3-0 then 6-0 then 9-0 winnable game
Granted the Bears game was no masterpiece; but if you remember he hadn't taken any snaps in weeks. He's damn near equal to Henne WITHOUT ANY WORK OR ATTENTION FROM THE COACHING STAFF. Henne has been worked, and worked, and worked. Thigy hasn't. I say sign him and actually work with him for a change. Hey you never know - it just might work - it sure as hell hasn't been tried yet! Even Brandon Marshall said Thigpen "gets it a little more", that should speak volumes. Sign the man; he knows the team and will be very inexpensive in comparison.
There was never any competition for the QB slot. Sparano named henne the starter and stuck with him hoping the light would come on. It didn't. Throwing Thigpen into an awesome bears Defense without any coaching or preparation is the coaches' fault. Give Thigpen the time and development henne couldn't grasp and he would outshine henne 10 times out of 10. And the WR's actually prefer him.
I sign him only with the understanding he will not start here. If he won't step in line with that, dump him.
In remembering this you are right, but that's not what he said. He told us on camera in his 'on field interview' that he hadn't taken any snaps in quite a while. Could he mean that he is not being given reps in practice and then being thrust into these games? G-d, could the coaching staff be that dumb? Sporano focused on Henne like a magnifying glass on an ant hill, and maybe, all but ignored a guy who read the defense better, the WR's liked better, a guy who plays with better tempo and can scramble. Toward the end of the year Sporano played Thigy more and more which was a little too later to give him snaps in my eyes. The two QB's look almost equal to me with Henne being the coaches favorite. I know Ross favors Henne because he is a Michigan man, maybe by sticking with him Sporano was trying to satisfy the boss.
Meh... I really couldn't care less. He's a backup, nothing more. Similar to how every QB on our roster presently appears. see what other options are out there, if nothing better, then sign him. I wouldn't be rushing to get a deal done with him though.
Hopefully he meant just with the 1st team. Which still is stupid I believe. If he or any player is on the team they should be given a few reps a week with the 1st team just to keep them in rhythm with each other.
Dude I dont even know where you get that information from. Reads the defense better? He can barely read a defense. So much that he scrambles right away when his first read is covered. Marshall likes Thigpen better because Thigpen will throw it up in triple coverage and Marshall wants the ball all the time everytime.
I think "reads a defense better" came out of Marshall's mouth if I am not mistaken. Personally I would dump Henne and Penny and make Thigy a back up and go searching for other much needed talent. Thigy is already familiar with the team and would come cheap. In that role I would sign him. I see no QB on our roster that would or could bring us to the promised land. Penny is too old, Henne is mental lunch meat and Thigy....well? Is a back up.... but should be signed.
He has to read it better then henne. henne just looks at the receiver he's going to throw to. He doesn't read one defensive player.
Trade Henne? For what? A 6th or 7th round pick? That's about all you could probably get for him right now. May as well just cut him (and, I'm by no means advocating that...just sayin'). As for Thiggy, man I don't know. I think he's young enough where he could improve in the areas he's weak in. And, he does seem to bring a spark to the game when he comes in off the bench. But, as a starter (in the event you'd need to rely on him as such) he's really not that good. I guess if we could come to terms on a contract that makes sense then sure...why not? But, he's not the answer in as much as Henne's not. My hope is we draft a QB with an early pick (either our first rounder, or a late first or early second if we trade back), let Penny try his latest comeback, and see if someone separates themselves as the starter in TC.
Friend 23: Based on what? The garbage time he played in NE? The fat goose egg he laid against the Bears? Or the 1-12 record as a starter in KC? Which of these 3 lead you to believe Thipen is a better QB than Henne? I eagerly await your response, friend.
