He posted on his facebook that he was flying back to Miami today apparently. Marcus McDade and Stephen Weatherford were the two QB's to visit this weekend. Both said they will commit if they receive an offer but they hadn't gotten one yet because Golden is waiting for the OC to evaluate them. He told them the OC will be in place Tuesday. Also looks like Duran Carter didn't get an offer, we'll see if they offer him later on since there is quite a few WR's visiting in the upcoming weeks.
Anderson is a bum. He needs to mature. Carter had a 1.0 GPA at Ohio St and didn't get an offer from LSU so honestly I don't know how he would see the field anywhere.
Anyone else think that “the OC will be in place Tuesday” means “the OC is coming from an NFL team”? Certainly seems that way.
Well, David Lee is packing up at Dolphins HQ, apparently… But seriously, I don’t have any names in mind, I’m just speculating. The timing would seem to fit with the NFL playoffs.
Steve Logan has done a pretty solid job with a revolving door in the Tampa Bay backfield. He can definitely coach.
Miami could land top Michigan football recruit Dallas Crawford might not be a Michigan man after all. Crawford, a standout senior quarterback and cornerback at South Fort Myers High School, verbally committed to the Wolverines on Nov. 12. However, in the wake of reports Tuesday that Rich Rodriguez was fired — or would be soon — as Michigan head coach, Crawford said he has decommitted. Michigan remains a possibility, the cornerback recruit said, but other schools are back in the picture. “(Michigan) is still number one right now, but I have to open back up and explore my options,” Crawford said. Miami is one option being considered by Crawford. “I’ve talked to coach Al Golden a lot. He seems like a good guy. He seems like he can turn around Miami,” Crawford said. Crawford said he has also talked to North Carolina, Purdue and West Virginia. — Naples News .
Yep. I knew it. Looking at an NFL assistant. As for Crawford, that’s expected. Golden said he’s going to target guys who committed to coaches who were fired. He also needs to bring in as many QBs as possible.
Dallas Crawford's high school teammate Sammy Watkins would have been nice too, but it sounds like he isn't wavering on his commitment to Clemson. The next two weekends are chalk full of high quality kids visiting. I can just imagine the type of recruiting Golden and his staff can do with a full year instead of a month and a half. Here is a list so far of the kids expected to take an official visit this upcoming weekend(Jan. 14th). Kicker: Matt Goudis QB: Gary Nova QB: Jacoby Brissett CB: Dallas Crawford WR: Phillip Dorsett (Already Committed) WR: Devin Lucien WR: Rashad Greene DT: John Jenkins DE: Olsen Pierre (Already Committed) DE: Curt Maggitt TE: Nick O'Leary TE: Sam Collura LB: Brandon Golson Would be pretty awesome if Golden could get that West Palm Beach trio of Brissett, O'Leary, and Maggitt. Huge long shot though.
Kyle Wright was a 5 star recruit. If that didn’t jade you as to the reliability and accuracy of Rivals’ ratings, nothing will.
Nothing is supposed to jade us. Stars mean nothing to coaches and recruiters but to someone who has no way to watch said player, play, it is mearly a gauge that he might have some hope to develop or may be slightly ahead in development. The star system will surely be proven wrong more due to the amount of players ranked as such but they don't do it to fool people.
I don't think it's a huge long shot. We actually have a good shot at Brissett from what I'm hearing. and if he commits, that really ups the chances for O'Leary committing. Especially when you consider Al Golden was a former NFL TE, and let's not forget how good a recruiter and coach Brennan Carroll is either. Not really sure the chances of getting Maggitt.
They aren't 'fools' per se, but they certainly aren't impartial. If a player is recruited by UF, Bama, and LSU, they'll likely get a 5-star rating just because of that. If that same player were recruited by UM, Rutgers, and UNC, they might not get that rating. Players are often rated on who is recruiting them more than their actual ability.
Yeah that's about right. In Latwan Anderson news, InsideTheU had reported late last night that he was expected to enroll back into school this semester and now they had put up an article saying LA met with Golden and now he's not expected to be back. Not really sure what happened there, maybe we'll find out soon. UPDATE:
http://twitter.com/ChrisFreet He's the associate AD at UM. Hmm what this might be about, maybe the OC or other position coach(QB/WR)?
Dallas Crawford just told CaneSport that the Canes are his top choice. Says he won't announce his decision till after his final visit.
He's either getting some good advise or he's just plain smart. At Miami, he will get a chance to play right away, and the DC is pretty darn good.
Manny Feldman says the OC hire “won't be announced until later; appears NFL playoffs have a lot to do with delay.” So the OC is likely coming from an NFL team that lost in the wild card round: Indy, New Orleans, Kansas City, Philadelphia. I’d say New Orleans, but that organization has a lock on coaches; anyone who goes there is trapped until their contract is up and they choose to leave. Pete Carmichael is continually blocked from interviewing other teams, and Gregg Williams just withdrew his name from the Broncos coaching search. So that leaves Indy, KC, and Philly.
Well the latest on the OC from CaneSport is It could be a number of different things but maybe that coach is still in the playoffs with his current team.
Mark Whipple is officially gone. Will be UConn’s OC. FYI, if Ross had hired Bill Cowher, then Mark Whipple would be the Dolphins OC right now.
Darlington’s tweeting made it sound as if he would be the UConn OC, but I guess he’s the head coach after all. Good luck to that program, they’ll need it.
Rumors going around that Jeff Stoutland might go to UCONN with Whipple or possibly the OL coach at Bama if Joe Pendry retires over there.
I’d be surprised. Golden likes what he’s done with the offensive line, thinks it’s one of the best units on the team.
