http://blogs.mercurynews.com/kawakami/2011/01/05/harbaugh-update-still-talking-with-49ers-as-of-530/ FWIW, for me long meetings are not a good sign as two parties typically want to get a deal done or they do not wish to get a deal done, but this is the NFL and contracts and Organizational Structures built into those deals take time to hash out.
For someone who refers to the Harbaugh watch as "hopeathon" you sure are on top of the latest news. The article is interesting though. If they let Harbaugh leave without a signature it's over.
well if you figure he's getting 7 mill per year and its probably for 5 years then yeah they are going to hash it out since we're talking 35 million. you dont sign a 35 million dollar contract in thirty minutes
All of these things are a smoke screen..But as a guy who has had my hopes rise and fall on meetings, long ones are a sign that a deal is there to be done. I think he's just extorting the Niners. He's in the catbird seat and he knows it.
It is a Hopeathon, what else can it be with so much being invested into a College HC who has never coached a down in the NFL? I could understand the hopes over Jimmy Johnson as he was fresh off of 2 SB wins but Harbaugh..not so much. Anywho, I know other people are really interested in Harbaugh coming to Miami so when I run across things of interest I toss them up for my finfans to take a look at for themselves.
Which are the exact monetary terms I reported over at fanhell.com. You're welcome! Anyhow, Padre, I disagree about the long meeting being a bad thing. They are meeting right down the street from me currently, which is about 15 minutes from Harbaugh's house on the freeway...sans traffic. The same distance is about an hour on city streets or with traffic on the freeway. Anyone who has lived over here knows that traffic is AWFUL right now at this hour. Chances are they are kicking back and hanging out, waiting for rush hour to finish.
Long meetings can become unfocused and tend to have everything but the kitchen sink brought up. Well, if you look at the factors SF makes far more sense for Harbaugh, if we miss it we are kind of down to a Cowher, or a Retread, someone already on staff, or Sparano finishes out his contract with a faux extension.
101 South is a nightmare from 5 until about 7 or 8. Always has been. 280, on the other hand, is like this magical freeway that no one ever knows or uses. It really is mindboggling. And BART doesn't head beyond Burlingame currently. Although there are plans to have it expanded to San Jose over the next couple of years.
i wouldnt drive on 101 now if someone paid me 7 million dollars...I hate traffic that much and these west coast drivers are AWFUL to begin with let alone in traffic..... 280 on the other hand....seriously why dont people use it more, there is never a soul on it.
What? We have leapt from god awful to mediocrity! Laissez les bons temps rollez! Eh, way I see it, add a vet Qb, new ST coach we have a much easier schedule this season.
The drivers here are pretty bad, but I was just in New Jersey and those people are sadistic by comparison, imo. And yeah, I jump on to 280 just about every morning and laugh at everyone who is about 2 miles east of me, sitting in traffic.
Meh, we are better than we were, but good times don't roll with two consecutive losing seasons and possibly more question marks than answers across the board, talent wise.
TBH, that is one of the reasons why I am not wild about the idea of a coaching change, we have two huge questions at Qb and on the Oline, that is really the limit that can be plugged in one normal offseason, add in a Coaching change and things could become much much worse. Not to worried about running back as they are fairly easy to find, far more concerned with Vern Carey's knee issues, if he needs that specialized surgery that will be 4 of 5 oline positions have to be filled. That lockout is going to put teams that switch staffs behind in every phase of the game.
Uhm...I don't even want Harbaugh as the coach. As far as I am concerned, I prefer the negotiations go well between the Niners and Jimmy.
They were talking about San Jose when I was out there last. I has assumed it had made it that far south. I guess I remember the 101 differently. I supervised (For a short time) a service industry with stations in SJ, Oakland, SF, Modesto, and, Sacramento. I could make the whole circut in just about 12 hours. I always used the bridge that runs over Half Moon bay...Or that exit...And I never had any issue attacking the run from the south and running up. I do remember a Cesna landing on the Highway around Tracy one day.....THAT pissed me off.
Unless he gets Harbaugh he really looks the assclown, because Harbaugh is just using him to get all he wants from the 49er's. Ross is looking less intelligent by the minute.
Yep, eegads, I did want an owner who was more involved, this is just pathetic. We've been here before and it did not turn out well at all...what is Ross going to do park himself outside of Harbaugh's home and play "I would do anything for you" on his limos sound system all night?
I have to say that from an outsider's perspective, this is a bit bizarre. I've never seen a potential coach wooed like this while the team still had one under contract. sent from my EVO 4G
From my "feeling" earlier, it sounded like JH isnt happy with what SF is offering... Or he is pandering and trying to get more money from them. But, if i were him, i would listen to everything thats out there and then go with the best offer. I see no problem with ross attempting to get the guy he wants. It at least looks like he is interested to the uniformed part of the fanbase.
It’s no different than what teams do with free agent players. Hell, Al Davis just signed a punter off the street after Shane Lechler criticized the firing of Tom Cable.
Why is it pathetic? We put Sparano on hold. Made overtures to Harbaugh when he was in town knowing he'd probably go back home to talk to San Fran. Spoke to Cowher, but he wanted too much control (e.g. Ireland gone). Spoke to Gruden over the course of two days, but he wanted too much money (if not, control). The Titans chose Fisher over VY. And now we hear that the Harbaugh talks with San Fran are heating up. So Ross hops a jet to do some last minute proposing. And now we're hearing that he has Ireland and Carl Peterson with him and is prepared to make Harbaugh the highest paid coach in the league. What is pathetic about that?
He's in the catbird seat, and, he can caw down on whomever suits him at this point. It's what you do. You expliot positions of strength. You hedge positions of weakness. -In my mind, to my thinking, this is all about saying..."Hey, if we land Harbaugh, I'm gold."..If not, I tried, and, I'm gold. Meanwhile, it lets his current staff know they are one thin damn ice. Never underestimate the use of fear every now and then. Ross knows more about managment and about high stakes games are played than the lot of us, thrice over. I think it's all a game that Harbaugh is playing. He'll land with the niners.
My goodness I am agreeing about a football matter with a Jets fan. That moron has reduced the Dolphins franchise to begging a coach to take the job, with someone already in that job, never mind the Rooney rule or what have you, at least with Saban there was an opening. Put a clown nose on the dolphin logo.
I dont disagree...he is using every last inch to get every last dollar from whomever. I still believe that the 49ers are the place...but at least he is listening to other teams. A few yrs ago i had an offer for what i thought was my dream job, before i started i went on one final interview because i knew the person and liked and respected him. Turns out, that was my dream job and im glad i listened to every pitch available.
There you go, useing real life examples again. People, as I say, think the NFL is a fairy story, and not real life. I took a job with less of a compenstation package to accomplish the goals I have at this stage of life recently. I wasn't promised much, but, I was promised X number of things, and, the employer has come through with his end. I interviewed today for a position that I didn't meet the minimum qualifications for, and when I got about halfway through a great interview they discovered that. I was dismissed, but, the gleam in the eye of the interviewer was evident. I plan a follow up tomorrow. He now knows that I'm hungry, and, I'm after what I'm after. It's all about sending messages. I knew I wasn't going to get the job....But getting your name out there is what matters. If a competeing business offered me better, I'd have to look at that. I'd be a fool not to. But at the same time, I want to give everyone a chance to kiss my *** equally.
People don't think of the NFL like a fairy story. They think of the NFL different than most businesses because it is different than most businesses.
not sure what people want Ross to do? if he keeps Sparano hes a moron IMO. hes trying to secure a HC before he cans the FistPumper. how would you handle it?
all i can say is, if this is the guy he wants, he better offer him whatever dollar amount he wants, and not board the plane until the contract is signed.
