Thats my thinking. If Sparano's future relies on Jim Harbaugh then fire him anyway. We only kept you because Jim passed on us. Good luck next year!

I married into an Italian family and one thing I can tell you is there an emense sense of pride and tradition instilled in them. There is no quit in most of the men as their parents constantly remind them of how their ancestors fought and scraped their way here from meager beginnings to get to where they are today. Tony is that type of guy and all the proof I need was his continued loyalty to his friend Henning all season long. He has pride and can't be happy with this but I can guarantee he does not want his name associated with being a quitter.

    Same here..

My plan was to chill out for the next 6 months, maybe post a couple of threads if we signed anyone from the CFL, but Ross had other plans..

Going to be a long offseason when this all over, no mini camps, no OTA's, just the Draft, no Free Agency, no Trades..ugh.

Ah well, CFL opens their season in July..my football itch will be scratched one way or another.

Well we are stuck with him, like it or not. We don't get a say in this at all.

I stopped taking Clayton seriously after he kept repeating that Mike Tice might be chosen as HC by Parcells because of his "ties" to him 3 years ago. If Schefter says someone's in or out, I'll buy it.

Oh no doubt, but Tony I think could end up as Asst HC there in Dallas at a very good salary.

While I agree that there is a ton of speculation, I can tell you with pretty good certainty that Harbaugh will not be allowed to run roughshod all over the Niners organization. In fact, they have a GM in place with Trent Baalke who will probably be officially named tomorrow. Coincidentally enough...he is friends with Jim Harbaugh and the two share the same agent.

Sparano is such a quality person if he is fired it will not be like past firing of say Cameron or one of the Wanny Era OC's, to me this would be one of those cases of things not working out more so than "I hate that guy" at least for me, some do call him "morano" which is whatever, the team played around .500 for his time in Miami so I'd wish him well.

  11. Samphin

Honestly...what can you see Sparano doing in the pros? He won't be hired as an OC or DC (obviously). And I wouldn't be SHOCKED if he was hired outright as a head coach somewhere else right away. Would he swallow his pride to be an o-line coach again and build himself back up? I actually think he would do well as a college coach. UConn would be a nice landing spot I suppose.

But honestly, would he be the "asst. head coach" along with o-line? I honestly don't know where he would land in terms of a position.

You never know. Everyone thought Mike Tomlin was a Rooney Rule formality and that Whisenhunt was a shoo-in.

With Cam I never understood his anger towards the Dolphins. That year, was mainly his fault. It seems as if he has some kind of vendetta. Is it because of the way Parcells treated him ? Not even giving him a courtesy exit interview ?

People here treat Harbaugh like he is some kind of NFL master mind HC but in reality he has zero experience at that level. Would I want to see Sparano fired? I'm pretty sure I do but I'm not going to sit and pretend we are in great hands if Harbaugh is hired. The guy has absolutely zero NFL HC experience. Does anyone really understand what that means. Another greenhorn from the college ranks put in charge of a football team that is having a rough time getting back to .500. Harbaugh looks like a genius playing Va Tech in the Orange Bowl but that is a totally different game. Harbaugh doesn't bring much except more question marks to me as we have no idea how he will translate at the next level. If Dolphin fans would learn to temper their expectations they wouldn't always be raising their pitchforks. In two years Jim will probably be ran out of here by the likes of most of you anyways.

All I know is if Wanny could get a head coaching gig after he was out of here, then Sparano should have no trouble.

What if...........Harbaugh is the FIRST choice and Sparano is the SECOND choice, and Cowher is THIRD and Gruden is Forth...........

Is Sparano still hanging his head if he gets the job. When you THINK you have an opportunity to upgrade ANYWHERE in this kind of environment, you do what you have to do. If Sparano is retained, that just tells me, he was SECOND choice. That isnt necessarily THAT bad. Its not like we are going for Harbaugh, then Cowher, then Gruden THEN Sparano.

Its ALL in how you spin it.

UConn could be a good job for him.

Sam I still think he could go back to Dallas as the Asst HC and OLine Coach, and just forget that the Miami time ever happened.

Wanny was more proven in that, he had experience previously, not only as a head coach with Chicago, but a defensive coordinator with Dallas. He was fortunate enough to land at Pitt, but had he not, he would have landed on his feet as a coordinator somewhere in the pros.

Sparano's bread and butter was the o-line. And the one on his own team is 80% crap. I honestly don't know what he gets hired to coach if/when he is fired.

You have to wonder if Garrett would want Sparano back in Dallas. If things go South and Jones gets antsy young coaches get paranoid about ex HCs being around ala McDaniels in Denver. Makes it real easy to can them and tag an interim coach for the rest of the year. Kinda ironic that's what helped us get Nolan down here.

  25. Samphin

Except for the reports that Ross contacted Cowher to see the interest level and even presented a complete structure package to surround Cowher with. A package that Cowher balked at. If true, then Sparano is now the third choice, and we haven't even been linked to Gruden yet.

Yeah but 2nd choice, is SECOND. The players will know it, the fans will know it, and the media will harp on that. It could get very uncomfortable for him, especially in press conferences. He also needs to get bigtime FA QB in here. Knowing all of that, don't you think its going to make us have to overpay someone who isn't probably worth crap just because they know if they come here their job may only be as secure as Tony's job ? If I was a player I might look at just about all my other options before considering Miami. That is not good for us. We are then playing into the players hand in all the negotiations. He may have several other options, not as good or with as much playing time "promised", but it might look like it would be a bit more secure of a job.

Kidding aside, "if" bringing in a Harbaugh or a Gruden solves our Qb problem, I'd be for such a move, if Harbaugh offers that skill to the Franchise, you'd almost have to go all out to land him as we have been in the Qb wilderness for 12 yrs and it is time to come on out to Qb Civilization.

    Ok people, answer me this....
If Luck is such a great QB, how do we know Harbaugh is such a great HC. Is there not the possibility that Luck is making Harbaugh LOOK GREAT? Would Harbaugh be such a hot commodity if he didnt have Luck as his QB?

Wow, this is looking more and more like Ross just isn't going to bring him back but is being really ****ty towards him and will make him swing in the wind until Ross does find someone to come here. God that is crappy. Ross might want to rethink this strategy. If he does this to Sparano, he'll do it to someone else. If I am a potential hire, I might want to look at all my other possibilites 1st.

I am going to answer that a couple of ways. Because it was Reported...........doesnt make it true, as we have seen with all the different REPORTS on Sparano and Ireland lately. I have to say that I did not hear any of those reports, I am just saying.
Being 2nd, and knowing it, is, again, part of the business. If you are picking 15th in the draft, you arent getting your FIRST choice, you are getting to pick from what is left.......I hear what you are saying, but I dont think it is that big of a deal. no biggie.

At this point, I think we're wasting a season if we keep Sparano. He's proven he's unwilling/unable to get it done X and O wise, his main attribute is his ability to motivate and his respect level in the locker room. An attribute which was called into question on Sunday, I might add. And with the way he's being allowed to twist in the wind, I doubt his swagger levels will be rising any time soon, so bringing him back as a lame duck would be asking for trouble. As Pad pointed out, good luck getting an OC to come here and work for a lame duck so IMO we either have to cut Sparano loose, extend him, or except that we're probably going to suck next year. I'd prefer choice A.

Exactly. I feel so bad for the guy who has to do a dog and pony show interview knowing he has 0 shot at the job. It's completely disrespectful to the person and minorities everywhere. It's an outdated rule. Minorities are given chances and succeeding everywhere you look in this league.

We did start out 2-0..did trade for Marshall and Wake was what we all had hoped he would be.

But more or less, a decade of pain.
