There is no way I go into 2011 letting Henne think he is the starter. You bring in a veteran, like for only an example, Palmer, and let Henne know his progress better increase big time if he WANTS to be an NFL starter. That's not giving up on him at all. It's pushing him to improve or else....
MY biggest problems with Henne have been his lack of the following 1. Feel of the pocket 2. Down and distance 3. Clock management 4. Passion and Leadership skills I was hoping that as he gained more experience that these things would improve. They have not. If at all they have seemed to digress. Just has been so hard to watch week in and week out.
henne is just not a winner. He doesn't have the "it" factor. Look at Tim Tebow. He has the "it factor. He has the passion and it rubs off on his team and the entire offense. Our offense has the henne "meh" rubbing off on it. If something doesn't go right they just show "meh". All except Brandon Marshall. He has been the only fire this O has shown all year. Sometimes Ronnie would show it then he would be taken out of the game.
He's clearly lying. The video proves he jumped nothing and is running off at the mouth. He was BEHIND Bess and when Bess fell he was the lucky recipient of a pass.
No way after watching the game last night you can compare the way that these two played with Henne. It's not about over throws it's about the way they both can create in the pocket, and fit the ball into tight spaces. I don't think that we spend a 1st rounder this year on a QB unless a guy that Ireland loves drops to us, I would rather see us sign a guy that can take over and win us games immediately if Henne plays like this next year.
I love posts like this. No real substance. Nothing measurable or provable. Just fairytales and myths.
You mean Todd Wade? Smith started all year as a rookie, and did ok considering. But he was let go after yr 2 where he only started 2 games.
I'll have to take your word for it. I know he only started 7 games in 2008 and 9 in 2009 (after 2 years of no starts). I don't know what he's doing this year, other than being in Houston.
pretty much my knowledge is from a commentator talking about how the injury to Wade Smith was a blow to the Texans.
This is either an implied comparison or you're just asking how many times Brees and Ryan overthrew their recievers because you want to know the actual number.
Really really getting a chuckle out of this one!! Then tell us why he caught the ball right exactly in front, and just to the side, of where Bess fell???????????????????????????????????? He must have had some sort of mythical hyperspace button on him somewhere.
It was neither. Commenting on how a HoF QB and an up in coming QB, who a lot of people here think would have been our savior, overthrows a lot of their WR's on their deep throws is making a point. Not comparing.
I consider that hypocritical given your responses. I'll be frank - I've watched you infer comparisons in your posts plenty of times on this board without providing any clue or context to the contrary, and when someone questions you on the comparison, you belittle them, call them fools and morons (your exact words) and roll your eyes towards the heavens bemoaning that anyone could think that you were making a comparison. It's cheap and of bad quality, and if I ever see you do it again on these boards I'll report the hell out of the post and lobby for a time out for you. You do not get to poop all over these boards unchallenged, these boards are better and deserve better than someone playing semantic games to belittle others and swell your e-peen.
Who did I call a "moron"? I will typically respond in kind. I have never once shown disrespect to anyone who hasn't showed me disrespect first. So now you're saying that making comparison's is off limits? When I make a comparison I will make a comparison. Certain people "inferring" doesn't make them right. I've even gone to the lengths of clearly ending some of my posts with: I am NOT comparing player A to player B! The problem, IMO, is that anytime a person mentions a player in the same post as another player some here assume "comparison". Instead of using thier ability to think and reason they "infer" something that doesn't exist and decide instead that it's easier to argue that point rather than the REAL meaning of the post.
My point is that most QB's get more than 1 try per game at a long pass. My point is that these long passes, even when the "good" QB's get more than 1 try, are not easy to complete.
He was trying to explain that ALL QBs misfire on deep throws, even the Good-Great ones. A deep ball is by definition a low % play, but if you can complete 25-30% of them, you're doing pretty good. By throwing deep CONSISTENTLY (not once a game) you can force the defense to expand and create more space for your short-intermediate game. If you throw short all day long, then by the end of the game the defenders will be jumping all over your short throws. As we saw vs the Lions.
I agree with your mindset, but after everything Henne has been through, there's another way of thinking that has to be considered IMO. It's possible that we could get more out of him by trying to build his confidence back up. Henne will push himself regardless b/c that's the kind of guy he is; plus he knows his job is rocky right now. The booing has probably made certain of that. Personally, I'd tell him: "It's your job to lose. Work your *** off this offseason starting in January and make this organization and your fans proud. You've made some nice improvements so far, and now it's time to make your big jump". Henne's already a Fin, so I'd give him the first team offense or else we might as well trade the kid and give up on him if we're treating him with the 'one foot out the door' mentality. If he's gonna get better, he's gotta feel like he belongs here and that his efforts aren't for not. I'd bring in competition, but I'd make it clear to the team that Henne is the guy and the competition is here as a backup so that the team can try and focus on one leader and not fall into the Penny syndrome that we had this year. That'll push who we bring in to take it up a notch and work for the job, which in turn, will push Henne harder. However, in the back of my mind, I'll know the entire time that I'm not playing favorites, and the job will go to who wins it.
Nice of you to deflect the point of his post into something else entirely so that you can use it as a way to bash on Henne some more.
we both know that when Bess plants to break on his pass, he breaks hard and comes back to the pass better than just about anyone around.... and he also catches the ball out in front of him. I greatly doubt that Levy, who was positioned behind Bess, jumps the route and gets in front of Bess to make the pick w/o going through him to do so (if Davone doesn't fall down).
Not sure if this has been posted in this thread...but Henne has made progress.... 2009- 14 G/13 GS: 451 Att/274 Comp, 60.8 PCT, 2878 yds, 6.38 YPA, 12 tds, 14 int, 75.2 Passer Rating 2010- 14 G/13 GS: 474 Att/ 295 Comp, 62.2 PCT, 3,230 yds, 6.81 YPA, 15tds, 18 int, 77.1 Passer Rating Enough to say he is our future? No....but he has made progress....and he did it this season...without a running game...without any real game breaking speed....a seam breaking TE....and a OC like Henning.
How in the world did I bash Henne? I said he should start next year, but that we need an experienced back up because there's no way I would be OK with us being in the same situation we're in now next year with Henne struggling and with no one on the bench that's capable of stepping in. I think that with some adujustments on offense we have a team that can win now hence the free agent signing. The problem I have is that yes I understand that Henne requires more time, and I'm willing to let him have it, but it seems like some people are willing to accept the way he is playing right now. Isn't it 1000 attempts before you know what you have in QB? Well that number is approaching rapidly and he is not playing at a level that I find acceptable. Was the point of his post really that all QBs mis fire on deep throws? If so I apologize I just didn't think that would really be the entire purpose of the post, that is my fault.
I'll take any improvement during a 2nd year when players all to commonly have a regression during their sophomore slump like Matt Ryan did when he plummeted from an 87 QB rating to an 80. Henne's 2nd year doesn't excite me by any means, but I'll take it, and hope the experience leads to a breakout 3rd year.
Okay dude I'm sorry that I read your post wrong I just assumed that everyone knew that quarterbacks mis fire on long passes, but having read some more posts I can see why you felt the need to say that. I personally do not believe the deep pass is chief among his weaknesses.
I appreciate the apology. Yes, that was the point of his post b/c I posted last night about QBs misfiring on their targets deep, and used the Falcons-Saints game as a reference. I was making a point about how fans thrash Henne for missing a few deep passes even though we attempt less than 1 per game, yet here Ryan and Brees are---- missing on all 5 of their attempts IIRC. The point was- that all QBs miss on deep throws and typically need to throw at least 2 or 3 per game if they want to hit on one and deem the efforts a success. If you hit on 1 of 3 then you can have a 33% chance of connecting each game compared to Henne's 0% or 100%..... b/c with only 1 throw per game, those are your only 2 options- 0% or 100%..... and I don't know a QB in the history of the NFL who's going to hit on 100% of them. IMO having 2-3 opportunities per game also helps prime your arm so that your accuracy and timing improves during the game so that you'll eventually connect and make the efforts worth while. Chad's 3 for 12 on deep passes for the season. 25%. If he had 3 attempts per game I'd have a hard time believing he couldn't hit on 1 of those for a 33% rate. That's not hugely different than his current 25%; however, completing 1 per game would make us forget about the others he missed, where as attempting 1 per game (and missing on it) only allows us to focus on that one miss.
Thanks. Around here a lot of people critisize Henne for missing his 1 deep ball a game. When in reality a QB needs more shots downfield in order to come close to completing those types of throws on any consistent basis.
The funny thing is, Todd, i was thinking the same thing as you while watching that game last night. When I made my post I had yet to even read your post. lol.... Great post,as usual!
I promise you, despite what it may seem, no one here is complacent with the way Henne is playing right now. No one. It seems as though there's a split feeling regarding Chad: those who want production from the position ASAP, even if it means ditching a young QB (which is understandable)..... and those who feel that Chad is still developing and deserves more time to develop b/c he hasnt been helped by the injuries, lack of ground game, troubled Oline, coaches, playcalling, and lack of playmakers etc at the skill position.
