agree we need these, though for me the most important thing is to upgrade the offensive line. John Jerry may improve next year (he probably does) so we may have one upgrade there without doing anything but if it was me I would do whatever it takes to upgrade the center spot and i would still look for someone like logan mankins. I think if we have a line of Jake Long, Logan Mankins, Mike Pouncey, (John Jerry or Richie Incognito) and Vernon Carey we will be able to run on anybody and that sets up our passing game. I would be cool with drafting Demarcus Love also and having him start at guard next year and then moving him to ROT in 2012. Having said that I would love to also add a breakaway back, a seam splitting TE, and a speed recceiver who runs a sub 4.4
Well donning asbestos fire suit and making a bold prediction: They are not going to spend any more time on Chad Henne if at all possible. Look at it this way, 3 yrs, literally a thousand hours of individual work with Henne, 26 games played, 24 starts, and basically Henne is at the "Reading is Fundamental" stage, he has not moved on from square #2, he is basically the same Qb who was taking snaps in November of 2009, making the same mistakes, throwing the same bunches of interceptions in the same situations. Sooner or later, they will cut bait with him as they will have to bring in someone else and spend those hundreds of man hours and repetitions on them rather than teach Private Pyle how to dress (FMJ Reference) each day and every day, there just comes a point where the staff decides to move on. Henne is on the cusp of that decision imho, he is not valueless though, he can "win ugly" so a trade of Henne would not surprise me one bit.
If "He" is me then you were totally full of crap when you made your post. Items 1-4 were all totally false. Educated posters on here know this to be true. But hey, you are the man.
I already said in another thread Chad Henne to the Vikings for a fourth round pick before or during the draft next year (maybe the Cardinals).
How can he put it together when he is getting bounced in favor of the WC? They always burn a down in the red zone doing that. I love running the football but putting yourself in a situation where you won't be successful throwing the ball. Too predictable.
i dont see how the wildcat effects him at all. If he's so soft that he cant come to the sidelines to discuss what he's seeing for one or two plays then he's never going to make it regardless. besides you were the one complaining about not running enough. you seem to switch your complaints every week. either we dont pass enough or we dont run enough
Well, maybe, they may hang onto him as a backup Qb as well. It is more a case of how many "now Chad, you know you were supposed to do this" conversation can you have, and not see it implemented on the field, and stick with the guy? I have been accused of being a "Henne Hater", that is not true at all, merely being objective and forming conclusions from what I have seen from him time after time after time. Now there is one thing I have also considered that no one has mentioned: Could be Henne is playing through an injury to his throwing arm, think about it, that would explain several things: -inaccuracy deep, -not throwing out routes (the difficult ones, not toss the ball up to BM, but the ones where the ball has to have steam on it) -I cannot recall seeing the canon from Henne this year, recall in the Jets MNF game in 09? The Camarillo catch on 4th and long? That ball was smoking coming into Camarillo, this year, just have not seen that from him.
i think they will bring in a vet next season too push him. if he shows improvement in the offseason, if it looks like the light went on, he will start. If he still looks awkward back there or unsure then the vet will start. i dont think they are going to risk having next season and their jobs ride on Henne with noone behind him
Wow, a legend in your own mind. Your on a keyboard like everyone else here and not in a front office or sideline for good reason. GIVE ME A BREAK.
I'm in awe of the lack of reading comprehension and ability to follow a simple conversation in this thread. Truly astounding. If you have questions about who I was addressing (hint: not you), here's a novel idea, READ UP. Wow, I thought of that all by myself, reading up and simply seeing which posts people were replying to. Amazing. I must've stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night.
Nah I'm a run first guy all the way. Especially with a young QB but...... There are times when you have to keep up the tempo. That was one of those situations. How hard is it too see that you don't bring out the WC. In the red zone you put yourself in a box. Besides all that Dan Henning blamed Henne
the wildcat has been decently effective recently and seemed to work well vs the jets. i would think the red zone or just outside the red zone is the ideal place to run it. having henne throw in the red zone is having henne throw in the area he's having the most trouble with this year. i think its henning protecting henne or its henning not trusting henne. either way i have no problem with it
We can disagree no worries. I despise the WC in the red zone honestly. The WC is a mess these days. Henning doesn't trust Henne or his big time WR. That is when you exploit that defense. You have to attack there. Big game after a big play. I do have a problem with that. Henning wanted to get it started but didn't obviously then he pins it all on the QB for the fumble. Those criticisms are probably coming from people who don’t watch the game. Chad Henne is a guy who’s more than capable of being an All-Pro quarterback. Again, it’s not just him. His destiny is in the hands of others: wide receivers, offensive line, offensive coordinator, the organization. It’s not just one guy. He relies on everyone doing their job. -----Brandon Marshall Bet you never thought you’d hear Chad Henne’s name in the same sentence with Steve Young and John Elway, a couple of Hall of Famers. Yet that’s exactly what Miami Dolphins Offensive Coordinator Dan Henning did today — Coordinator Thursday! — in discussing Henne’s chances of bouncing back from the first benching of his career, at any level (apparently all the way back to junior high). Check out Henning’s comments in the video clip below: http://network.yardbarker.com/nfl/a...nning_insists_chad_henne_has_a_future/3590094
If we trade Henne, what do we leave ourselves with? Thigpen and a rookie QB? No thanks. Sign a vet, keeping working with Henne and draft another guy while letting Thigpen walk. I don't see the problem with Henning saying what he did. The guy screwed it up. Are we really going to argue about whether he should have called a one hand fake to a two hand fake? I mean that just screams excuse making to me. These guys deal with this. He needs to hang onto the football? Is this a recurring problem? From the stats and past performance, no way. However, he cost the team points and almost the game had the defense not played great.
I find it truly remarkable the attitudes that I find on this site anymore. Seems more times than not there is someone or several someones that are telling anyone reading that they have the absolute answer to what ever the discussion may be. Makes it rather difficult to stomach reading anymore. There are many on here that I respect with their knowledge base regardless of point of view But I'm not satisfying anyone's ego anymore, discuss your point of view and I will accept or reject it. Listen to mine if I be so inclined to express it and accept it or reject it. I will not tolerate absolute ideas from anyone that feels the need to force me to accept their way of thinking. We have no way of knowing exactly what is going on behind closed doors but we all can make reasonable speculation to that and even express what we think or would like to happen but ultimately every other person on this board has no more absolute idea what is happening than the next member here. Of course anyone that may actually work for the Dolphins would know... It's disheartening to see the way the opposing views on this board treat each other anymore. I am no guru nor will I even try to imply that I am. I am a zealous football and Miami Dolphins team fan with reasonable observational skills. I have the ability to formulate my own opinions as well as comprehend others opinions as well. Now this subject is so bi polar and absolute that people are ignoring a lot of the middle. I find it rather interesting that Henne continues to regress at this level, something I don't believe he had issue with being a 4 year starter at Michigan. He may have plateaued but I don't recall anything anywhere saying he had periods of regressive behavior. So, all the members on this site continue to focus on the stats, the games, the skills, etc... but no one looks at Henne the person. When I watch him lately he clearly is disengaged and distant, you can see it in his eyes. It's in others eyes as well on the Offensive side of the ball. Marshall is one that comes to mind. It's my uneducated guess that this Offensive regime is so rigid in it's expectations that it's beginning to wear and break the spirit (if you will). How do you get any better when you are required to perform in a manor that does not suit your skill set? It's akin to starting Marino in San Fran's WC offense. Montana thrived because the scheme played to his skills. Marino would be able to run that offense but I doubt he would have been as prolific as he actually was. The current situation being a bit more dire of course. Henne has expressed his dislikes and Henning continues to put him in uncomfortable situations. I have no idea how this will play out but I would like to see Henne in a situation that he is working from a positive comfort level, but I suspect that will be on another team based on the ultra conservatism of the coaching staff. One of the things I would like to see is someone compare Henne's first few games as a starter to his last few and see how much of a difference there is, see how much of a regression there has been. Again, just a non guru's point of view.
and then if henne throws a pick, or fumbles a handoff or takes a sack its still henning's fault. i mean you have people posting that it was henning's fault that he called a play with a one hand handoff. apparently it isnt henne's fault at all. the coordinator is supposed to decide in ten seconds everything that can go wrong with a play and then warn his QB
i have seen it in his eyes too. i think he's just overwhelmed at this point. I'm sure he's wondering why it isnt clicking for him yet. Rich Gannon just had a interview on Finsiders and he pretty much laid out the problems Henne is having. Missing reads, forgetting to go through his progressions, locking on to his number one option. Now I know he's improved in all these areas since last year but he's stilll getting confused back there and its not the playcalling. its the defenses he's facing and how they have adjusted to his weaknesses. Look at Bradford in St Louis. He started out on fire. Now defenses have game fil on him and he's finding life as a QB isnt as easy as it appeared the first few weeks. He's just gotta battle through it. As for other players, I have seen danger signs that they were getting frustrated with Henne but I dont think its at a danger point. (Fasano, Marshall come to mind) the one thing i like about henne is he doesnt seem to have long periods of sucking. he does tend to bounce back. so either buffalo or detroit we should see a good game out of him
There are plenty of Henning flaws one can point to - but really, they are neither here nor there relative to that particular play, and Henne's responsibilities. Nor do his flaws as a play caller relate directly to Henne's flaws as a QB. There is some overlap but the fact is that it's evident that Henne simply does not have the smarts at this stage to make great decisions with the football or at the line of scrimmage. I actually don't have a problem with their calling him out. Everyone gets so thin skinned and up tight! Come on ... It seems to me that Henne actually performs a bit better when he is knocked down a bit (as when he played well immediately after Penny went down and Henne had lost the starting role). The fact is, the guy (henne) needs a fire lit under his butt to get better. He has not shown the same level of dedication as Pennington nor has he shown the smarts of a number of other QBs who were in their 3rd year. I'm not a supporter of Henning, btw, I think he has to go at the end of the year. But, Henne has serious flaws that cannot be excused by Henning's flaws.
Did I just read this right? Did you just attempt to shame others who disagree with what has been the common assertion ALL YEAR only to put forth the same lame assertion citing "reading his eyes". Did I just read that? Henne came into the year with critics citing a despondant demeanor. There is nothing to it. There was nothing to it then and there is nothing to it when you use it for your own purposes. When Chad Henne stops throwing interceptions and starts throwing more than 5 completions in a game - he may just smile a little more.
yeah i dont think its unwarranted and it may be the right psychological button to push. its really no different than Sparano saying in every other press conference that Henne had some throws he wishes he could take back. The difference here is the comments arent about throws but the mental part of the game. I like Henne and I think he'll make a huge leap next year. I think his problems right now is he just cant put it all together for long stretches. for short bursts he can look really really good but then he makes some bonehead decision. it's par for the course with young QBs IMO and hopefully next year instead of having one good game two bad he will have two good games one bad. I mean there is a reason coaches hate to start rookies and young QBs in this league
People do seem to forget that this was the guy that was in the room when a change was made from Bledsoe to Romo.
Take it how you want Zod, if the shoe fits... From someone who insists that their opinion is the only opinion and damn all the fools that don't follow. I offered an opinion based on what I observe. take it or leave it. It is what it is and I don't care if you agree at all. Using shame is more your tactic not mine, especially when it comes to this subject. I don't take kindly to those "in the know" trying to force feed me their opinion as gospel. The "look in his eye" in my opinion is different now and his energy/enthusiasm are way down, there is a difference from the beginning of the year to now and YES THERE IS SOMETHING TO IT. You don't know anymore for sure what is going on than I do so can it with the ultimate authority routine, quite franakly it is rather old.
man, we're 7-6 and still statistically alive in the playoff race, but you'd think we're 1-15 again reading this message board. Chill out everyone. A lot of this talk about Henne or Henning needing to be replaced is way to pre-emptive. We've got 3 games left. Lets root for both of them.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHipzGL4dwM Wish I knew how to embed youtube videos. Used to work to just link the link. lol.
And perhaps on third and long he should send more than two receivers into routes against six defenders in coverage.
Sparano will be tested as a head coach by this growing rift between hisQB and his OC. If he doesn;t have the confidence to put them both (especially Henning) in their place, then I'll lose respect for him, and presumably the inmates (like Henning) will run the asylum a bit. What I'm saying is, Sparano should, imo, put his foot down NOW with Henning badmouthing Henne in the media. All it can do is harm the QB's relationship with the staff.
Big armed QBs are hard for fans to give up on. Just like big dicked bf's are hard for girls to dump. Both stories have sad endings.
Maybe so, but then, if I am henne I'm starting to go from simmer to boil... every week after a bad game I am saying how "we" all made some mistakes, and owning mine. Admitting them. Then I'm getting crapped on by the staff in the media. I guarantee that a few weeks of that and I'd tell the media, "Maybe if my OC called a decent ****ing game I would have some receivers actually running patterns that could get open." Hell, Brandon Marshall was the FIRST guy this season to question Henning in his interview on the Michael Irvin show, two months ago. Sooner or later, there will be no incentive for Henne to stay quiet and be a scapegoat. He'll have to point out that there's enough **** sandwich available for EVERYONE to need to take a bite, including and ESPECIALLY Henning.
This regime is actually terrible at developing Olinemen. Jake Long arrived, srpung from Zeus' forhead, a blue chip player. Vernon Carey was a first round starting fixture. Every player they have attempted to coach up or develop has either failed or they have ABANDONED the development of the player and switched horses mid-stream. I think Jerry COULD become great, but not for this coaching staff. They'll nitpick his faults, not let him play and then find a reason to replace him. Maybe it's Tony Sparano's OL background causing this. I don;t know.
The reason I am beginning to feel Henne's lightbulb won't come on is, he has more reason than most QB's in this league to have a faster learning curve. VERY few QBs in this league come in with 47 college games, 45 college starts under their belt. That is a very high number. For him to have that much experience in college (different defenses and complexity, yes, but still a major headstart on guys like Sanchez, who had SIXTEEN starts in college. SIXTEEN. That's almost THIRTY fewer starts than Henne) and to still be 'slow' at recognition of defenses on-the-fly post-snap concerns the HELL out of me. The mental part of the game is not going to come to this guy, fellas. I thought it would, but unless I see a DRASTIC display of Henne masterfully dissecting zone coverage with decisiveness before year's end I would have to say I see his future as being a backup. We need another QB in the house.
i have heard this complaint about henning's playcalling numerous times and I think it would be valid if we had Chad Pennington, Peyton Manning, Kyle Orton or some other vet QB starting for us. However lets try to figure out why we are calling super max protect in these situations. To do this I think we have to examine Henne and his current flaws. The main reason you call max protect IMO is when you have a QB who doesn't feel pressure well and who doesn't have a good feel from where the pressure will come. When you have a blitzing defense like Pittsburgh, Baltimore or the Jets you want to know that your QB isnt going to get killed if there is a breakdown in pass protection and either take a sack, fumble the ball or panic and throw a pick. Since Henne really hasn't developed a great feel for pressure in the pocket yet and often times has no clue where the danger is coming from pre snap and also will fail to read the blitz and make the proper blitz protection calls I think the coaching staff feels its wiser to sacrifice his options for safety. I think this is especially true when we get down inside the opponents 30 where a sack can take us out of field goal range. Now we could just throw caution to the wind but I think the reasoning behind this max protect scheme is really a lack of faith in Henne's current abilities to deal with pocket breakdowns. Assuming Henning were to stick around next year and assuming Henne made a leap in his ability to read blitzes and know where the pressure was coming from, I would bet that Henning would ease up on the max protect blocking schemes next year. I think this is more an indication of how the coaching staff feels about Henne's current abilities rather then a playcalling or scheme preference. Having said this it could also be a belief that the offensive line by itself may not be enough to deal with heavy pressure without help. I think it is more about Henne but it could be both
oh i agree and i dont think we'll go after someone like Orton either so the starting caliber vet wont be the toughest to beat out. My bet is it will be someone like Gradkowski. It seems like Campbell is the man in Oakland and I'm sure they could make him believe he would have a realistic chance to start here. Plus he's somewhat similar to Pennington
No, no... Let's be honest here with the if the shoes fits stuff. You were pointing the finger at another. I only called out your hypocrisy. My opinion has been that of counter balance. I watched and read an entire offseason and 12 games worth of hope for one and despise for another. That observation does not make one an authority. That makes one objective and objective makes no friends around here. That is what I have done. You say that you made an observation. Well I would tell you to read my posts back to September 12 and then tell me if I have done anything other than share my observations. Have I taken rancor for those observations? Have those observations not been about the game of football? I would suggest that mine has been a voice of reason. One of very few voices of reason. If you don't take kindly to those in the know then why do you find yours is a voice that agrees with the majority? You have said that you offered an opinion. Read the posts. Is that opinion not an opinion that is agreeable opinion of the majority? So why do you now find my post (in defense of another) so disagreeable? Your finger pointing to shame another was wrong. It was only done to present your opinion in a more favorable light. Don't worry because you are not alone in the practice. Now as to the excuses of Chad Henne's having premenstrual cramps or crying during the love story or loving a bouquet of fresh cut flowers- again I will say, I don't buy it.
up to now, i would put the blame on ireland since his forays into free agency and the draft havent brought the right players in. i say that about the draft because none of our players drafted who have been cut have done anything on any other teams so it seems like cutting them was the right move. But it is a valid criticism. We have spent three years and so far we have found one left tackle. This is the priority for 2011 IMO and if we fail again then we have serious problems. Ireland has to fix the line. No excuses, no distractions. He doesnt have to worry about the defense anymore. And he can even lay off the receivers if Curtis still has his speed. Whatever Ireland does this offseason he must bring in some stud or studs for the oline. No excuses
honestly though, henne doesnt know whats a good offense for him or not. this is the only system he has had to play in. its a lot to expect him to pop off to a guy who's been coaching off and on in the NFL for 40 years. i think henne knows he's making mistakes. he might prefer to air it out or have four wide sets or to not have to play action on third and long but he doesnt have the perspective or the experience to make those statements. Someone like Marshall could but at this stage I dont know if its Henning or Henne that Marshall feels is the reason he isnt seeing the ball. I think most of the fanbase is ready to blame Henning first and foremost just like the Jets fanbase is blaming Scottenheimer, but I'm not sure if the players on either team dont feel that its their young QBs who are to blame. There is a reason that before the 60 million dollar contracts, QBs used to sit on benches for five years before they started. The money now makes that difficult to do
So, Sparano will be coming back and will decide to throw the baby out with the bath water with his young quarterback. Exactly who is he going to get to fill the QB role? What veteran QB that will be available will be able to come in and polish up the turd known as Tony Sparano the way Chad Pennington did in 2008? I highly doubt Chad Pennington, duct tape an all, will be an option next year. Or do you think Tony gets enough time to bring a rookie quarterback along, a rookie that Tony will likely lose patience with because he doesn't play like Chad Pennington? I laugh at those that feel Chad Henne has played terrible football this season. Chad has completed almost 64% of his passes on the year and has averaged over 230 yards passing per game, and this is in an offense that is being called against his ability. For some reason though, his last game is being used as a measure of his entire season. It is a fact that after his first 27 starts, his numbers are almost identical to those of Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco after their first 27 starts. The difference is, Ryan and Flacco were coached well, and Henne has had piss poor coaching to this point.
After 5 pages of threads Gunn, you're spot on... It seems that most of us either think that Henning is the culprit or Henne is the culprit....nothing has changed...
