Curry: Jeter deal is done Jack Curry says it’s finished.

Derek Jeter and the Yankees have settled on a three-year deal, with a fourth year option that isn’t guaranteed. The deal is pending a physical, so it won’t become official just yet.

Same for Mariano Rivera’s deal. He spoke to the Daily New and Newsday this afternoon, saying the negotiations were quick and smooth, and this might very well be the final contract of his career.

Sweet Mo (2yr 30M), then Jeet (3yr 51M)...and both reasonable for the circumstances. Congrats to all Yankees Fandom......Cashman and Co roll on. Focus shifts to AP, CLee, and Bullpen, with Crawford and 5th OF being targeted. C is debatable but I feel they will go into camp with what they have the properly evaluate via competition and see if anything shakes out from other trade options before they break camp.

That Jeter’s deal is worth $51 million guaranteed over three years. Interestingly, the deal includes a player option for a fourth year worth $8 million where he would have the chance to earn an additional $9 million in performance-based incentives.

Ding, Ding, Ding, winner...thats how you do it!

The Yankees just overpaid for Jeter. But to their credit, they didn’t give Jeter his initial demand: six years, $24 million per year. Not $24 million over six years, but $24 million per year for a total of $144 million.

Jeter and his agent are delusional for even suggesting that amount.

Fun while it lasted.....as I stated Sox seems to have come to the conclusion I had. A year with him is better than hoping he signs with them next year (or doesnt get traded somewhere else). And you have to believe they can convince him to sign long term before he hits FA.

Red Sox to get Adrian Gonzalez after all

In a deal set to be announced Monday, the Red Sox will acquire Adrian Gonzalez from the Padres for right-hander Casey Kelly, first baseman Anthony Rizzo and outfielder Reymond Fuentes. The deal will get done without the extension Boston and Gonzalez were working on up until Sunday’s 2 p.m. ET deadline. The New York Post’s Joel Sherman says the two sides have the parameters of a deal agreed to, but will wait to finalize. It’s possible that the two sides do in fact have an agreement, but the Red Sox will wait until April to announce it in order to stay out of the luxury tax for 2011.

Glad we got Mo! I knew we would sign Jeter. Did the Yankees over pay for Jeter? probably but its for their best interest to do so

51 million for 3 yrs is certainly a lot of money for an aging ss; whom had his worst career yr. But, they didnt give in to his length of contract demands, so that makes this a pretty ok deal on both sides.

Jays, Yankees, Red Sox all checking out Russell Martin

Yanks rumored to be back in the Martin conversations......they may prove my wishes wrong....but hopefully they find other alternatives if they really dont want to enter camp with Montero/Romaine/Cervelli battle.

P.S. if it happens, I will swallow my pride, and root like heck for Mr. Martin - thats a given - but like a 2yr old with broccoli...I wont like it!

The Yankees have presented Lee with an assortment of contract choices, writes Sherman. He believes the bids are something like five years for $125MM ($25MM per), six years for $144MM ($24MM per), and seven years for $161MM ($23MM per). I have a feeling this will reach its resolution with Lee signing the largest pitching contract ever.

Moving on.......Cashman and Co have to regroup and find solid reliable plan B and maybe plan C.

No C. Lee, ok, so Grienke anyone? doubt it...but heck, my prediction and expectation radar BLOWS this offseason.

No Carl Crawford, ok, well inhouse we have Gardner...he better step it up, stay healthy, etc..that goes for Granderson and Swisher...very thin in OF right now.

    Bullpen???

    uggghhhhhhhhh!

Well isn't signing Russell Martin plan B? Assuming he passes the physical which isn't a given.

Seriously though I wonder if the Yankees will turn their attention to a 2nd tier pitcher like a Derek Lowe. I don't see them going after Grienke, nor do I think they even have enough to land him (not a knock on the Yankee system but that price tag is very high). One of the rumors was if Texas didn't get Lee, they'd sign Beltre, move Young to 2B and trade Kinsler for prospects and use those prospects with prospects of their own to trade for Grienke.

Either way I'm excited to see what the Yankees will do next.

Short term it sucks for the Yanks not landing Lee, but MUCH better in the long term for them. I like the Martin signing, he is young, healthy, cheap money, under team control until 2012, good defensively, and should bounce back.

I honestly forget Grienke, even though I believe he will be decent...but I go balls to the walls for Juston Upton, you could move Grandy to left, trade Gardy (although I like him as the 4th OF)....this team needs to get younger, and more athletic...

go and get Feliciano, and Wood....and hopefully Andy signs back..

No he is not....broken hip is broken hip he is trying to comeback from Injury and horrible sucky production the past few years (I am convinced "granted with no evidence" that PED is cause)....he is an example of panic move IMO.

But as I stated approve, prove me wrong Martin - you have pinstripes now. Produce!

    Fantasy Squad....true story.

Anyway, like I sad, my expectations are quite low for Mr. Martin....so he only has to produce a little to make me feel better...but I do not hold out much hope for him to even last the season.

Ok, on to Rothschild and his ties to Prior and Zambrano. Hopefully if Big Z joins its a worthwhile gamble (depending on contract terms - if extension - and what we give up), but I have doubts about his mental attitude and willingness to play "Yankees" baseball and clubhouse attitude. Rothschild cant control that.

Prior is such a long shot.....but I feel this way....in my eyes these are both 4th and 5th rotation spots realistically. If one fills either, its a plus...if both do, double plus....but I really dont think so, do you?

Fausta as groundball arm in the Bronx is a solid choice and gives depth...but the question on these trades is who do we move.

Wow you guys really want Zambrano anywhere near your team? I'd absolutely pass on him. He's not worth the headache. You could probably get him extremely cheap depending on how much money you wanted to take with him. I doubt the Cubs would ask for anything of value.

As for Mark Prior signing, sure why not right? But think he'll do anything but get hurt again is probably more unrealistic than the Pirates making the playoffs.

Carmona is an interesting guy I might take a flier on but the red flags is he's extremely hittable and he walks a lot of guys. Which basically means there's going to be a lot of base runners on when he pitches. But with a new pitching coach who knows. Personally I keep thinking you'll be seeing Derek Lowe in pinstripes by opening day.

And seriously Russell Martin got 4 million from the Yankees? I'm speechless.

Well, I would want to know the truth...is he going through a divorce...if so, when will it be finalized.....hope whatever it was, he gets his head on straight and figures it out. Cause adding guys like Z to the MENTAL list of WHOKNOWS is not what I want the direction of this staff to take. Uggggghhhhh...!

If Big-Z has his head on straight, big if, but I believe Girardi, Jeet, A-Rod, Posada etc can keep him in line, there is no doubt there is big time talent there.....plus he loves throwing at people which is a plus...lol...

Fausto I like, but HATE the walks....he reminds me of Burnett...

guys Martin is there for defense, plain and simple, Posada cant do it anymore defensively, and they figure whatever they get out of him with the bat, has to be better than last year, he warms the seat for Monterio until Jorge leaves next year...I dont mind the signing especially for a year...

also BDH, I had him in fantasy in 08 so I am more willing to give him a pass hahahaha

There is talent there, rothschild has worked with him and i think he doesnt get out of hand on the yankees solely because we arent that type of organization that lets buffonery happen.

Carlos Zambrano is 116-74, 3.50 for his career pitching in a band box. He was bad early last year, but won his last 7 decisions.

In his final 8 starts he was 7-0, 1.06

He’s had a winning record for 8 straight seasons and his ERA has been below 4.00 each year.

He won 11 games last year, Cliff Lee won 12.

In the last 4 years he’s won 52 games. Cliff Lee has won 53

    LOL......

Yanks' Martin needs minor knee surgery

The hope is that its a glass half full type good news in that the procedure is considered relatively minor -- they wouldn't have went ahead with the signing if it was deemed serious (right????) -- and he is expected to be ready for spring training. Still, this is troubling for someone who is coming off a fractured hip and two mediocre seasons at the plate, and other allegations.

It's the same surgery that Sabathia had already, it's relatively minor. If anything it should tell you that the Yankees aren't worried about it if they still signed off on the deal.
