I agree with that, but (there's always a "but" ) we are a rebuilding team that just came off of a 1-15 season, where's the fire? We have time to evaluate our young guys without the need to rush things. If I had my way, we would use this season to evaluate Beck and see how well he does with a better surrounding cast. If for whatever reason he fails and McCown is nothing more than a backup, then the search for our starter begins one year from now. I disagree. IMO our biggest problem was stopping the run, while a good Qb may have kept our defense off the field a little longer than they were, he wouldn't have made any difference on 3rd and 2. Again, once Ronnie went down our offense lost it's identity, teams no longer feared our running game and they played the pass. By the time Beck finally found some playing time, injuries took their toll and some of the players just flat out gave up (Marty Booker). Our problems that led to a 1-15 season ran alot deeper than just the QB position. One player doesn't make a team better. Again, I have to disagree. I don't dispute that having a good QB is important, my only argument is that we don't know what we currently have. We may have that guy, but until he gets a shot in favorable conditions, we will never know. Adding another player to the mix will only cloud the water and add extra pressure for Beck (or Henne/Flacco) to perform like a probowler from the get go. If they don't, they'll fear being replaced by the other guy which may lead to stupid mistakes.
I'll be fine with whomever Ireland and Parcells picks in the draft. I wont be disappointed in them taking a QB anywhere with our remaining picks. I don't see another QB coming in being a threat to Beck but it would be nice to have some insurance. I agree about Beck not getting a fair chance last year but we will definitely know something this year. I would rather be QB rich than QB poor as we have in recent years. Sure we have a lot of needs but they can't all be addressed in one year of a rebuild. At this point none of us has any idea who will fall to our 32nd pick, we could be pleasantly surprized.
