He does IMO too. And then I see him in games like NY where we're running lots of 3 WR sets IIRC and he's able to get the ball out of his hands quickly..... and he looks like an entirely different player doing so. Then when we hit that 4 second mark, it's like everything shuts down much of the time. I'm sorry but I get the impression that this coaching staff has gotten too far into his head and it's impairing him from just "playing".

Why does the NFL even have OCs? or Olines? or RBs? or WRs? or TEs?.... when all Henne has to do is hike it to his own damn self, quickly block everyone, throw it in the air, and run down the field and catch it. Henne isnt that far behind Flacco. Its very minimal. And I would argue he's ahead of Sanchez in many areas with the two exceptions of the last five minutes of a game and the ability to improvise on the go

 

I, too, agree that we're witnessing a Sophomore slump first hand.... just as NY is with Sanchez and Atlanta did with Ryan last year when he finished with an 80 QB rating.

But there's a point hidden in what Deej is saying regarding OCs. If Peyton Manning has a bad play sent in, he can audible at the line. If Henne has a bad pass play sent in, he can't do that. What if he has TOO many poor plays sent in? Then what? He has to deal with it.

 

David Lee should get a little more heat here..... no one ever brings it up.

 

the majority of QBs cant audible. This isnt the 1970s. The guy cant even read cover 2 correctly and you want to put more on his plate? Based on the stats, which sophomore QB would you rather have before trying to figure out who they are?

 

yes, but this directly deals with Henne if Henning is sending in garbage calls that don't fit the scheme etc. How does that help a developing QB?

 

to me just about every QB doesnt come into their own until the 3rd or 4th year starting. Henne has a pass for this year. He has shown improvement in alot of areas and has shown little or no improvement in reading cover 2 and umbrella coverages in the red zone. Next year however the bar gets raised substantially however. He has to show he's a legit QB. Doesnt have to be great but he has to elevate his game to the next level. As a comparison I would say he would have to be better than Flacco is this year. Flacco, for those who havent watched is also having major problems reading cover 2 but he's in his 3rd year starting so. Basically both have to overcome their problems with cover 2 next year or both franchises will hedge their bets in 2012

 

this is once again your opinion. i dont see garbage calls. i see calls for a team who cant run due to the poor interior line play and a QB who cant beat cover 2 which means you're just trying to pull something out of your *** that will work because you dont even have the fundamental basics you need to formulate a basic gameplan

 

DJ, with all due respect, Simms is talking about a bygone era. Noone calls their plays anymore. The change started in the 90s and is basically complete. Nowadays the QBs get instructions from the off coordinators through their headsets. Mike Martz doesnt allow his QBs to audible. Jeff Fisher doesnt allow his QBs to audible.

The only way you hit the tight end on that play is if you lock onto him. You'd have to hit him inbetween two defenders.

And I highly doubt the Dolphins have many combo routes in their playbook.

What is the second statement based on? Generally the Dolphins run a motion nearly every play. Generally that is to get the defense to expose their coverage. Are the Dolphins trying to get the defense to expose their coverage just for the fun of it?

Anybody who hasn't seen garbage calls by Henning isn't paying attention. The Wildcat on third and long is a garbage call. Play action passes on third and long are garbage calls. Calling end arounds into a defense that has been staying home on the corners all day is a garbage call. Heck even running a two TE offense when you only have one decent TE is a garbage game plan. There are many examples that most everybody has seen. These are just a few examples. Even an ESPN analyst (Schlereth, I believe) came out and said the Dolphins had a "garbage" game plan in one of the games. How often does that happen? For a respected OC to be called out by the national media it has to be an obviously poor game plan. I defended Henning at the beginning of the season, but frankly there can be no argument that he has made a great many garbage calls this year.

If his offense is based on precision, then do you not see a fundamental flaw with trying to execute "based on precision" when you have such a young and inexperienced offense?

the guy was good enough to get his team to the conference championship game two years out of five while in Carolina, his last stint, one to the SuperBowl. This isn't ancient history this is less than a decade ago. The only difference is he had a running game and a QB who could actually throw against cover 2. Look at 2008. He has a running game and a QB and zero receivers yet still gets us into the playoffs. You have to give a coordinator either the personnel to run or pass (if you cant give him both) to expect results. Anytime a coordinator doesnt have the most basic ingredients he is going to fail. There are no game plans, there are no schemes, there are no systems, there are no coordinators out there that were going to do any better with the poor play of the interior oline and QB no matter how many people wish to believe otherwise.
