    Hey Guys

I just got Direct TV this year and haven't had any issues during some of the bad thunderstorms that have come through.

    BUT

We just got our first snow here in Cleveland (only a few inches) and I lost a good portion of my channels. I still have the broadcast stations and a few cable stations - but I lost a big portion of them as well as Sunday Ticket.

Direct TV said they can't come out for snow removal and I can't reach the dish to brush it off.

Is there anything I can do to get the snow off in the meantime? I've also heard people say to spray the dish with Rain-X or WD-40 to make the snow slide off - has anyone had any experience with this?

We're talking about Cleveland, OH where the weather may not be warm enough to melt this crap off for another 11 months.

    Thanks!

i was luckier than most. During the 30+ inches we had back to back last year, you could not see my dish at all. Snow was drifted all over it but i did not lose any signal from it. Now, during the height of the storm it wrecked havoc on it but as the storm cleared, so did my pic.
Maybe you could try some kind of a broom or scraper on a telescoping pole from the ground. I'm not sure i'd want to climb up on the roof.

Well we called and complained enough that they came out to look at it and discovered it was installed incorrectly. There was some piece installed upside-down so it filled with snow and froze over. They fixed it and other than a few stutters during the game (and snow storm) it seems to be working fine. They are supposed to credit me for the two weeks of missed service as well.

That is all great, of course, but I spent 30 minutes on the phone complaining and got no where - the wife got on for 5 minutes and they agreed to send someone out and credit our service. So while my TV service has returned, my manhood seems to be having technical difficulties.

directv is very strange. everything is negotiable but not everytime. just last week i called and told them i was moving. i was told i was not eligible for an equipment upgrade and would have to pay $100 for a new HD DVR. i was pretty pissed. i called back, talked to another person and he waived the charge without putting up a fight. i dont get it

And I just upgraded to HD and it was 19 bucks, first year free and 10$ a month after, had to agree to stay for two years.

I have been toying with the idea of upgrading to HDTV. I had the reg DVR and the cost for the HDDVR was something like $2-300 or so and I just procrastinated on it. Last spring, the DVR went up, one channel on it would look like constant rain fade and the other was fine. I called to switch out the bad one and told me of the HDTV prom where they gave me the new HDDVR for free plus free HD programming for a year. After a year, programming cost $10.99/mo. i figured that's a no-brainer and out of pocket was $0 and the only catch was a new 2 yr commitment. And now locals just became available here for I swapped the Fox and PBS I got thru them for $6/mo and have about 20 local channels for the same $6 plus it's free for a yr as well. Meedless to say, it works for me.

I'm not sure how high your dish is, but if you don't want to get the Dish heater, try a super soaker filled with car windsheild de-icer.
