The Dolphins are reportedly considering trading back into the first round with four players in mind, including Michigan QB Chad Henne. The other three Miami is eyeing: Florida DE Derrick Harvey, Delaware QB Joe Flacco, and Auburn DE/OLB Quentin Groves. Harvey would be difficult for the Dolphins to get, but the other three could realistically be had late in round one. Source: South Florida Sun-Sentinel
I would think that minus harvey, they would be there at 32 no? At least one of them.. I like henne. Don't know how I feel about Flacco but I think a QB that high is a wasted pick. Lets at least See what Beck can do for a year with a decent O-line, snaps with the first team in practice and some healthy starting runningbacks. if we are going to take a QB that high we better end up being in the same situation Sandiego was in a few years ago with Bress and Rivers and hope to trade one for a first round pick.. With that said, kets wait and pick up a project QB like the kid from oregon or even Colt Brennan Later
Trading up? If anything, we need to trade down with #32 and pick up an extra third. I'd only consider a move up if Harvey or Rogers-Cromartie slips far enough. Not interested by giving up extra picks for the other names.
Keep the picks guys, I know we want all the good talent in this draft but imo, we can't afford to move up and give up picks. Fill as much needs as you can with what you have now or acquire more if you can. As for the guys they are targeting, I think they will all be there with the exception of Harvey. Groves could be there, depending on the Niners imo.
Trading into the first round just to pick Henne makes me hurl. Harvey I can understand, but the other ones are barely worth our 1st 2nd rounder much less a 1st. Only QB I can reasonably be okay with moving up for in the 1st round is Brian Brohm.
The idea that we would publicly say that we want to trade up to get a specific player is pretty stupid IMO. Why would we tip our hand as who we would trade up to before we tried to do it? Itd give the upperhand to everyone else bc theyd know who we were going to go after. I think that the only reason they put out this report is to get things moving with JT or to show other teams that we would like to move up in general for a lot of diff players, not just for a certain QB. I also agree that trading up for a QB there would be ******ed. If we trade up for anyone it needs to be a Defensive player like Harvey, McKelvin, Rivers, Cromartie, Talib, Mayo etc...
Couldnt agree more, Im not sure Henne (who is rumoured to be our guy) will be gone by #57 let alone #32... I think that is just an off the wall statement.
I really hope all that these rumors are garbage. I think all of those players minus Harvey will be there when we pick. I think that if we move up we will select someone that is not on that list. That might be another "pillar of the defence" move; I hope so at least.
This seems like another pillar of defense moves. I highly doubt we trade back into the first round. We have the 32 pick, we're not getting any higher then that. Unless, what I have been saying for months comes true in that we trade whoever we draft with the number 1, ala Eli Manning. Then we may move back into the first. But I just don't see it happening.
I say we get some bad rumour's spread about Ghloston before saturday....one of you get your GF to go to the local papers with a paternity suit, someone claim to have smoked weed with him, I'll claim to have bought 6 cycles worth of steriods from him, and Enforcer you can claim he sexually abused you in an Indiana night club, the night before the combine. Fella's its up to us to get Vernon Gholston to drop to 32!!!!!!!!
Lol thats awesome!! You know, im surprised some crazy and likely intoxicated group of fans has never tried this before. As for the QBs, if we trade up for Henne or Flacco I would be disgusted. Both are so-so prospects with big big questions that honestly should be going in the third at earliest. If we arent getting Ryan or Brohm, just hold off on QB till a later round and take a guy there. Some good developmental players could possibly be had down there that, imo, arent really any worse than Henne or Flacco. The one thing we kept hearing was that at 32 there WILL be some good talent left for us to sort through. To pass on it all for a mediocre QB prospect is dissapointing to the extreme.
Would probably have to give up way too much to move back into the first. Actually our 32nd pick would have been the last pick in the first round if the Pats had not lost their pick. Our 32nd pick should be a pretty good player anyway.
Thats what really gets me about the QB thing. At 32 we WILL be able to draft a player who can come in from day 1 and start and be effective. THAT is what we need. For a team as lacking in talent and depth as we are, we just cant afford to pass up guys like Groves (a premium 3-4 passrusher) for a project like Henne or Flacco being drafted a round to soon. Plenty of projects to be had in the later rounds.
If we were to draft a QB at #32 it would have to be Brohm in my opinion. All of the others seem to have jumped out of nowhere this offseason, and I tend to shy away from players like that. If we believe in Beck and just want a QB to develope, my vote goes to Josh Johnson in the later rounds.
IMO, it makes more sense to trade back than it does to move up. And I think Flacco is definitely going to be there at 32. I hope Groves is as well. If he is, IMO, we have to take him. Look, in every draft expect the unexpected. One player gets taken well before anyone expects and one player unexpectedly drops. I could see Harvey going top ten. IMO, the key is Brohm. If Brohm makes it past the Bucs, then Henne and Flacco are both going to be around a while. If the Bucs take Brohm (as I expect), then you could get a run on QBs. If that happens, I hope the FO will remain patient. We have alot of needs and any of them can be addressed with the BPA approach at 32. If Groves, Flacco, and Henne are gone, take Limas Sweed. Hes big and plays big. We need a big WR. If not Sweed, take Dustin Keller. We need a pass catching TE. I think the whole notion of us moving up is pure posturing. There is too much logic for us to either stay put or move back.
That totally depends on your board. If you have, for instance, Groves graded as a top 15 player and he slides to, say, the 20s, you absolutely have to move up (I don't thnk there's a chance he'll slide past the 49ers, by the way). Fans generally tend to put a lot more value to downtrades than FOs do. Most FOs would prefer to get two players they rated in the top 20 region than one top 20 player and two top 40s. If a guy like Groves were to be within striking distance, I'd actually be pretty angry if we didn't move up. Sweed or Davis are neat but they are not top 20 talent in my book. By the way, how does Flacco's name happen to pop up in these items all the time? We haven't talked to him since the Senior Bowl and I honestly don't see this FO drafting a quarterback that high if they didn't work him out at least once. I think it's safe to assume that Flacco isn't amongst our targets considering the interest we displayed in guys like Groves, Henne, Campbell or Jackson. If you draft a QB on day one, you work him out and interview him extensively. We haven't done that with Flacco.
Smokescreen!!!! We have to sell it like we want to use our 32nd pick to trade back up to try to inflate it's value. Then someone desparate will throw a bit more at us for it and we gain more picks. Pure poker face boys and girls!!!!!!
