I still think there is a chance that JT is traded on/by Saturday. I think if a team offers a second round pick the FO will pull the trigger. Also, if we really don't plan on picking a QB @ 32, then I think there is a good chance we could trade back for the teams that are looking to get a QB. If Brohm is available (which I doubt. I see the Bucs taking him in round one), I think there are several teams that might want to jump Atlanta to get him. If thats the case, we'd hold alot of leverage. We could then phone Atlanta and tell them whats cooking....they need to give us both of their early second round picks or Brohm will go away. Even if Brohm isn't available, I think teams looking to get a QB might think picking one at 32makes good sense. Its conceivable (though a long shot) that we could end up with 4 second round picks on Saturday. The Atlanta scenario is most likely, but trading JT and trading down are also ways that getting four picks is realistic. i would hate to lose JT, as he is one of our best all time defensive players. But, he is in the twilight of his career (and I know he would like the opportunity to play for a contender) and we could surely use the picks. Imagine having four second round picks on Saturday. We could get a WR (maybe Limas Sweed), a rush LB (Avril from Purdue might be a good player), a TE (Avril's teammate Dustin Keller might still be available early in the second round, but there are others as well)and a Guard to team up with Long on the left side of the line. I don't have any in mind, but I do know that the kid from USC is going to be getting alot of interest late in the second round. We would be on the exact right path to rebuilding. We could still take a QB later (Ainge or maybe even Matt Flynn) to develop. Hell, we might be able to drop in the second round and still get Flacco or Henne. QB is going to be an issue whether or not we pick one in he draft. I think if we play our cards right, we'll be a playoff contender in the 09 season. If we fix the QB position (either Beck or someone else) we could be a SB contender not too much after that. In any case, for the first time in a long time, I think the FO will have a plan that is smarter than we will put together on the message board.
you'll get no argument from me on THAT! Having 4 picks in the 2nd round would be SWEET! Hope it happens.
