http://www.profootballtalk.com/2008/04/23/albert-as-high-as-no-5/ With the draft now three days away, there continues to be a buzz surrounding Virginia guard Branden Albert. He has been the biggest first-round riser in the weeks leading up to the draft, and some league insiders and observers believe he could be picked as high as No. 5, by the Chiefs. Some folks (like our friend Peter King of SI.com) don’t buy the hype regarding Albert, who is expected to play left tackle at the NFL level. As we noted on Tuesday, Albert played guard at Virginia because D’Brickashaw Ferguson was entrenched at left tackle there. But the notion that Albert couldn’t beat out Ferguson, who has been so-so in two seasons with the Jets, and that Albert wasn’t sufficiently dominant to take over the key position in the two years after Ferguson left provides some ammunition for wondering whether Albert will be all that good in the NFL.
I was conjuring up a dream scenario in which somehow Miami got Albert as well and plopped hi in at leftguard next to Jake Long. Talk about a young, dominant o-line then!
