Put it down here. Go on record. Tell us why Pennington is so great, and why Henne sucks. I've seen drive by Henne bashings in threads, and when myself or other people ask why they say that, they don't answer, or say 'He sucks!' and leave it at that. Lets get it all into one thread, and pin this so that when we see a drive by Henne bashing, we can politely refer them to this thread. A few questions to get started. Add your own if you want... Why is Pennington better than Henne? Why do you think Henne sucks? Why do you think its appropriate for us to keep the QB carousel in motion? What have you seen from Thigpen that makes you think he's better? Maybe we should give Pat White a call? Ok, Henne bashers...Let us have it! The floor is yours.
Hes not Dan Marino....... Seriously, i am pro henne, give him some time, its his first full season as a starter. If Ted Ginn got 3 years from some people here.....why cant Henne (at a more mentally demanding position) get the same atleast?!!?
How many did Jason Allen get? And he is still a worthless bust....but 5 years in this is the most he has contributed to this team EVER. Henne makes me wanna smash the TV sometimes but he is our QB and he IS good enough, if anything Id like to see him "wing it" a little more.
]banter, idle banter. you have your answers before you ask them. looking for sport? not even worth the effort. things must really be getting desperate and/or boring
i think thats the offensive philosphy and coaching, not henne himself....at michigan he was "winging it" alot....
1. Pennington only has knowledge better than Henne now, not the arm. Henne is and should be the starter. 2. He doesn't, he does what he was preached to do, don't make a mistake, if you have to check down, its what the coaches have preached into him from day 1, would I like to see him take more chances? Don't know, we are in a ton of close games, one mistake and we lose. 3. Its never appropriate to have a QB carousel. 4. Thigpen is a backup than can spark you at first, but the more he plays you see he is a back up 5. Pat White? Why do we need someone to dry the footballs on rainy days?
have fun Jason Crowder Pennington Ricky Ronnie Hartline Thigpen Henning enjoy yourselves ladies Chad Henne is your man and/or anyone else you develop a man-crush on today or tomorrow. it is what it is. never changes on the forum, only hope it doesn't cost us the season. Henne is no Dan Marino & will never be despite what the owner, head-coach & many of you may think. just not going to happen... furthermore, he's nowhere near the level of a healthy Pennington. Thigpen is better than Henne & Flocco will be the better man on Sunday. if we win & I hope we do, it will because of defense not because of Chad Henne.
I like Henne and happy with him at quarterback. The dude was a 4 year starter in college, sat in the NFL for a year, and had 13 NFL games under his belt before being a "first year" starter. He's had oodles more experience than most quarterbacks when given the reins. There's a lot of young quarterbacks in the league doing just as well or a little better with less experience. As long as he keeps getting better, I'm happy with Henne, but it's time to lay off the experience crutch.
1) accuracy with his throws in an offense that only wants to move the ball 10 yards at a time. he finds the open reciever easily. 2nd in MVP voting. orchestrated long drives to win games. 2) lack of accuracy in his throws in the same offense. poor ball placement. he takes a very long time to find the open receiver. he has never been the reason the dolphins won a game. 3)henning's offense works better for penny. this question was better asked when penny lost his job. 4) thigpen sucks. he's a third string quarterback. 5) white sucks. everybody knew that, except for a few homers who thought he needed more time. this situation feels very familiar, but i'm not sure where i've seen it before.
Henne can turn the neigh-sayers, critics & doubters around in one game. step up & put away the Ravens tomorrow & you are the man. no more excuses. do it.
what about the many irrational Henne lovers? seems to me there's an enormous, irrational man-crush for this underachiever on the forum. well, whatever's fair. tomorrow is another game & an important one. the truth is in the playing. all I want to do win games & go to post season.
Not sure I understand the Henne hate.... Jay Fiedler Ryan Lucas Brian Griese AJ Feeley Gus Frerotte Joey Harrington Daunte Culpepper Cleo Lemon Trent Green John Beck I mean REALLY? All that is needed is a LITTLE bit of perspective..Cherry pick two starters from that list and you'll see why this flabbergasts many of us fans. Chad Henne is a LEGITIMATE starting NFL Quarterback. He makes reads well, he has an arm that can stretch the defense, and he can make all the throws. He's not doing it by himself yet, but one fact remains... He is NOT a liability And he's not bad for that matter. He currently sits... #12 in the NFL for pass yards 1,669 #8 in the NFL for Completion % 63.4 Tied for #16 in Avg yards per pass (6.9) #14 in ypg 238.4 #21 in TD's 8 Tied #9 in INT 7 I loved Penny when he was starting, but think back to that time...our offense was absolutely ANEMIC. Penny didn't have the arm to stretch the field and Defense's knew it. The wildcat was born, Ronnie Brown was a top 5 back, and we were EFFICIENT...nothing more,. If we got down by 14+ points it was over....it was terrifying to watch a game...if the balance tipped even SLIGHTLY we were in trouble. Every game was a slugfest. Henne is at the very minimum an adequate starting NFL Quarterback. He throws well, he reads well, he's pretty efficient, and has the ability to tear up top Defense's when necessary (see Jets). He is a LEGITIMATE starting NFL Quarterback....dumping him now risks putting us back in the situation that we were in before. I'm not sure when or if Henne will ever turn the corner...I really hope he does, and I honestly think he will. I think a lot of his conservative play right now is due to the offense and not him. But he's there, and he should get better.
So does this mean if we win tomorrow we won't have to sift through anymore rainbow brite poetry confusion?
-Pennington doesn't miss wide open Wr's -Pennington's accuracy means he is willing to throw into tighter coverage than Henne. -Pennington controls the ball more efficiently -Pennington is far better at play action passing -Pennington can read the field better. In Henne's corner: -Henne is still quite young and learning well enough. -Henne can go on a streak during a game where he is better than pennington. -Henne is more durable, let's face it, the hit that ended Penny's 09 season was not exactly Aeneas Williams hitting Steve Young, it was a run of the mill jamming of Penny's throwing motion. -Henne's arm can open the whole field. In Thigpen's corner: -Great mobility, Thiggy can pick up a 3rd and 10 with his legs no problem -Ballsy, Thiggy will put the ball in the air, deep down the field, and try to make a play. -Thiggy causes opponent's problems due to his unpredictability, he may throw the ball 50 yds down field, he may run a bootleg for 20 yds, he may dink and dunk down the field, Thiggy is a real problem for DefCord's. -Thiggy is also a good leader, something all three Qb's have, but I think Thiggy is the most likely to get the offense fired up for a big game.
Are you serious? I don't think I've ever heard anyone refer to Henne as the second coming of Marino. I love Penny as much as the next guy, but he's just a glorified game manager. It seems like the offense is set up for a player like Penny; one that can make the short, accurate throws. Henne is definitely improving on his touch passes, and once he gets the green light to take chances our offense will finally open up.
1) No one has ever said Henne is the next Marino, It sounds like YOU need to accept that, not us. 2) A Healthy Pennington sure played good last year before he got hurt now didnt he? 3) 4) Thanks Mrs Cleo.
Wow, I guess I haven't been paying attention to the anti Henne sentiment on this board. These are great questions, Phinvader Bill, but what I would rather know is why John Beck, a quarterback who couldn't even handle a snap was giving a HUGE leash by posters on this board. He literally did NOTHING in his time as a Dolphin. Henne, who has shown steady improvement and has won more games than he has lost seems to take a beating. In fact, many posters on this board were furious when we drafted Henne because they felt the job should be Beck's. Same with the Pennington signing. Perhaps I answered my own question. Maybe it's the long lost love of the infamous John Beck that continues to make posters lash out at Henne. As for my opinion on the matter, as long as Henne can keep improving he has my complete support. I LOVE Pennington, but this is Henne's team. The only way I want to see Pennington on the field is if Henne falls to injury and here's me knocking on wood that he doesn't.
Who care's what we think. I bet if you took a private vote from every player on the Miami Dolphins roster with who should be the starting QB, Henne would without question be the answer.
one way or the other Henne will seal his own fate this season. has become abundantly obvious that Sparano has decided to live or die by this QB. if Henne develops into a franchise quality QB & we make the play-offs, all is well. if Henne fails to meet that standard, we will be in the market for new QB in the draft or free agency & Sparano will be looking for a job. next game should define what things will look lie for the rest of the season. we need to win the next two, then beat NE & the Jets to be viable. it is what it is, difficult but not impossible
I put specific posters on my ignore list for a reason. For some reason I keep viewing their posts. And every time I do, I wanna punch a baby. Why do I do this?
what does this have to do with the thread? always a good thing to think before you post got a tough game coming up Sunday. hope Henne & the rest of the team are @ their very best. we'll need to bring our 'A' game to Baltimore to win.
You've littered this thread with 6 worthless posts that haven't said a SINGLE viable thing in support of your Henne hatred..... or Penny love affair, take your pick. You're the reason this thread exists in the first place yet you still can NOT answer any question asked in the opening post. You sound like a parent talking to their little kid who's asking for a candy bar. "Can I have a BabyRuth?" "No." "Why not Mommy?" "B/c I said so". It's becoming quite pathetic really.
Its a shame really that this has to exist... I understand why it does though. Pennington... in his prime, was a better QB than Henne is now.. yes. No doubt. Pennington... now. Is more than likely NOT the better QB than Henne is now. Mentally, yes, physically, no. Henne is the better option at QB for this team right now. Pennington is the progress stopper. We have a young team that is learning as they go, that's happening at QB as well. Henne is making mistakes. Some throws are off, some reads are missed, but that comes with the territory of a young QB, who's had it drilled into his head, you dont turn the ball over, you dont take unnecessary chances, you dont hold onto the ball if nobody is open after youve gone through your progression, you check it down if its there, if not, throw it away. He's doing what this offense asks. I think the reason for the Henne hate... is more along that lines of the fact that this coaching staff keeps us in so many tight ball games by the way we play, that any small mistake that Henne may make, is magnified by 100 times because its such a close game, and may decide the final outcome. That being said, people really need to understand the development process of a young QB. Mistakes are going to be made. The progress is there from last year to this year... so be patient. As it stands, with how young this team is, we aren't built to win a SB right now, this year. In the short term, absolutely. But if you bail on the development of the young QB Henne, then where do you go? Draft another guy as one poster suggested? Well, ok great, but now we're starting the process all over again, so there goes the window of oppotunity to win now, all over again. Go the Thigpen? Why, he's proven he's a backup. Thats all. Pennington? He's likely done playing after this year, so that definately isnt an answer either. The answer is patience, develop the guy, then see what you've got.
its his first season as a starter, with a extremely young team, in the toughest division in football!!!!! Temper your friggin expectations a bit! Good god!
and for the record, i like pennington like everyone else.....but the dolfans that LOVE the guy? Come on! He lead us to a fantastic season after the worst in franchise history, but pleaee dont forget.....he was a jet for 8 friggin years.
Henne sucks. Too many mental errors. Pennington is the best option for the NOW. I think Henne should still be on the bench being groomed into a starter, like he was before Pennington got injured, instead of throwing him out to the wolves and watching his "progression" cost us games. Pennington has the "it" factor. Pennington is way more accurate. Pennington is more mentally prepared for the game. Pennington is a winner. Only upside for Henne is youth, time for improvement, arm strength, and durability. I still support Henne, I just don't think he's the best option right now. Damn, now my brain is in a mindf**k, because as I typed my praises for Penny, I got flashbacks of the playoff game a couple years ago.
If Henne can give us our revenge vs. Baltimore, and give us a 5-3 record, I'm all for Henne. But it's not gonna happen. Henne chokes. Typical Henne game- 20/35 230 yards 1 TD 1 INT I don't think that is enough from the QB position to beat the Ravens and make you a playoff team. And when we lose tomorrow, all the Henne homers will get an earfull.
All of the Henne haters have a hard time realizing that Henne is NOT going to be our clear franchise Qb in only his 2nd year starting. Give him some time damnit, he is progressing just fine. You all should be happy that we have a young Qb who has the skills to be a starter in the NFL. Why would this organzation draft another Qb when we already have a perfectly good one who is progressing nicely? So we can start all over again and wait 3 more years until we can even be considered a competitive team?? Henne is NOT gonna look like Dan Marino out there in only his first year starting all 16 games, especially not with a senile OC. Get that through your thick skulls.
Once Henne stops progressing and we see what we have, then you can start complaining. Since he is still progressing, you can't say he isn't the answer just yet. He could continue to get better and be one hell of a QB in this league... or he may only get slightly better and then if we aren't competing in the playoffs... then hang him if you like. At least wait until he stops getting better each week.
The Dolphins are in the midst of their best start since 2003 with a QB who has 20 NFL starts and more wins than losses. Good enough for me.
