That's bad logic. Go look at the history of #1 picks overall and get back to me. Or hell, top 5 picks for that matter.

Them picking Jake Long and him panning out sure as **** shouldn't be regarded as a "gimme". He wasn't the favorite for the pick by any consensus, and he's leaps and bounds better than anyone else they could have picked.

However if you believe Miami is an elite drafting team why don't you show us all the reasons you do?

You can credit Miami for drafting Long but you can't weigh that pick against a mid or late first rounder.

Look I NEVER said Miami was awful, I stated my opinion , which I believe is accurate when you look at the draft realistically.

I said I don't believe they have been"pretty good" at drafting the last few years. You believe they have been in the elite level?

Don't see it, sure hope some players continue to develop , no wanting failure to prop me up here at all.

The Giants have not drafted well either. Yes, they have gotten some Wr's and D-line help, but:

The Giants have ignored the LBers, and have gotten very old on the O-LIne.

In fact the GM has been under fire hear big time this year.

 

Actually, lemme look at "elite" drafting teams as of late in the same time frame we're talking about

2008 Patriots:
1st round LB Jerod Mayo- Middle of the road starting ILB, compiles tackles down field but little else.
2nd round CB Terrance Wheatley- 1 start in 3 years, has not seen a snap this year.
3rd round OLB Shawn Crabel- One career tackle, vs. Buffalo this year.

2009 Patriots:

2nd rounder: S Patrick Chung- His career highlight was special teams @Miami this year, pretty bad in coverage.
2nd rounder: DT Ron Brace- Rotational DL of no particular note
2nd rounder CB Darius Butler- Bad coverage corner, splitting Nickel/Dime responsibilities with Jonathan Wilhite
2nd round RT Sebastian Vollmer- Looked good last year and potential replacement for Matt Light, has regressed somewhat this year.

Colts
2008
2nd round Guard Mike Pollak- Not particularly noteworthy starting Guard
3rd round LB Phillip Wheeler- Solid starting SOLB

2009
1st round RB Donald Brown- Career 3.6 YPC
2nd round DT Fili Moala- Rotational player for the Colts, most notable for DUI this offseason.
3rd round CB Jerraud Powers- Solid starting corner

 

I don't believe they are an elite drafting team, I believe they are one of the top say, 10 since THIS front office has been here. Who else you want me to compare them to?

they have gotten rid of a few of their top picks. In fact they traded a number 1 for a 2nd round pick and traded that pick for another failed player. That is two high round picks on one player who failed.

They have a lot of early draft picks due to trading Cutler and Marshall. They have some hits, however they have some serious misses.

 

Good thing he broke his leg the day AFTER the trade deadline...

 

In theory, a 1R pick...formalities dictate a 2R pick because of the Pats' forfeiture. The best way to decide this argument is his contract. Was he subsequently paid as a 1R or 2R pick?
