Let's see if I can still recall:

    Rickey Henderson
    Willie Randolph
    Don Mattingly
    Dave Winfield
    Don Baylor
    Mike Pags
    Ken Griffey Sr
    Oscar Robertson

Ahh, cannot recall the catcher, and Baylor was traded to Boston for Mike "the hitman" Easler.

That was sad, Donnie was something of a cottage baseball card industry, his 1984 topps rook card got up to like 100 bucks back in the day, he injured his back and that was the end of that one.

i would have liked to have heard the Scooter call a playoff game with that team, he was such a great, and under appreciated announcer.

Except for the "Tour of Italy" commercials..and the Ice Cream Cake ones..those used to kill me..even back then.

Munson is still my favorite. I was a catcher in little league because of him. I'll never forget the day I heard he died. I was 11. I cried like a baby :(

what i remember is having quite possibly the worst infield to ever play baseball in the history of all baseball at all levels (pros, minors, college, little league) Dale Berra Jr 3rd, Bobby Meacham SS, Len Sakata 2nd base. The three stooges

Dale Berra was despised by fans, sheesh..and a Pitcher by the name of Ed Whitson.

I don't recall Sakata, do recall Meachum, iirc he was in a car accident.

They came in second 4 or 5 yrs in a row, with the Mutts having a team packed with all stars and winning a WS, that was the beginning of a bleak time for the Yankees.

My senior year in college I got to see a lot of this team: http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/NYY/1989.shtml

Louis (I swear she said she was 18) Polonia. His glove was bigger than him.

Most NYers loved Thurman Munson but despised Reggie Jackson.

Sparky Lyle said that Jackson's candy bar tasted like cow flop.

    Anyone else recall "Reggie Bars"?

len sakata was a backup second basemen who came from the orioles. we played them when he was on the orioles and he comitted three errors in one inning against us that allowed us to win a game. next year he was a yankee  those were dark times my friend. dark times

Reggie didn't make any fans when he said, "Munson thinks he runs this team, but I'm the straw that stirs the drink."

I loved Munson, and that pissed me off. But at the end of the day I liked Reggie until he started missing every pitch that was thrown to him

If you can find "The Bronx Zoo" I recommend you find it and read it, Sparky Lyle has tons of stories about the late 70's Yankees.

He said the Yankees played a game in MN and that was Free Reggie Bar night, so Reggie hits a home run and the fans just started throwing the candy bars out on the field, thousands of them were all over the place.

Eh, didn't mind them, tasted like a little debbie star crunch snack.

My twin brother was a Mick the Quick fan. Played center field in little league.

I loved how Rivers would walk to the plate like he was an 80 year old man with arthritis, and then bust it down the line like he was shot out of a cannon!

Catfish had that one yr in 75 when the Yankees made it back to the WS.

That A's team was great, the fake pitchout to Tenace that caught Bench napping was the baseball equivalent to the Marino fake spike play..no one had ever seen it before.

I saw a great clip where they had Sparky Anderson miked as he was making a pitching change. He was talking about what a damn good hitter Munson was. I'd love to find that clip again.
