Well, on the surface this is a "nothing" game, but it really is not. Here is why: Titans are tied with the Jags at 3-2, tied for third in the AFCS, but we play the Titans this year, and chances are good the AFC South will be in the mix for the second wildcard slot behind the loser between the patriots and the jets for the AFCE crown.
What else is there to do in J-Ville on a Monday Night? Seriously.. right now: Texans 4-2 Colts 4-2 Ravens 4-2 Titans 3-2 Jags 3-2 Dolphins 3-2 As for the Heat...bro the season runs until June..2011...
I’m going to alternate between this game, the Yankees game, and Fallout 3. The Jags have a real shot to pull this one out. Should be interesting.
And Vince Young is down, grabbing his knee with Fisher out on the field. If VY avoided at least a MCL he should build a widow a home..sheesh
Edwards is leading a semi-nice 2 minute drive here. Jaguars know how to get out of bounds. Maybe we should have traded Ted Ginn to them.
Tebow needs 2-3 years on the bench. Jacksonville would have potentially let him start week 1. Would have been a completely wasted draft pick.
Well, what has come home for me is how important the next 3 games are, all are AFC games, all are against teams we figure to compete with for a WC playoff slot. And 4-2 with a win against the Steelers would put us in the drivers seat heading up to Baltimore.
Don’t count on that Steelers win. Wow, Edwards with the pick. The Jags might get shut out at home. Sad.
Why not? Do you really think there will be 3 ST scores in a qtr by the Steelers? It's Trent Edwards, what would you expect?
No, but I think the Steelers will be able to score in tight situations on us, and I think their defense will give the offense fits. A better question is, what did the Jaguars expect?
And I think Nolan handled them for 3 qtrs last yr with a much less talented D, and our offense is built to challenge teams like the steelers. Gives a good perspective on how great it was that Chad Pennington signed with Miami after his release by the Jets..Qb's who can play are rarely cut in the NFL.
I see no one on our offense besides Brandon Marshall who can seriously challenge the Steelers. Conversely, Troy Polamalu isn’t losing sleep over the prospect of Chad Henne embarrassing him. Is Sims-Walker still on the Jaguars roster? Guy hasn’t even been thrown to tonight as far as I can tell. Edit: There he is. Incomplete low pass to Sims-Walker.
Hmm, we run the ball remember? Ricky, Ronnie all that? He had maybe 1 catch earlier in the game, the Jags Qb's are so crappy he is kind of wasted on them.
Jags feeling Buffalo's pain tonight, classic Edwards lol. How in the name of God did Nix/Gailey rest with him at their QB spot and no tackles?
The Steelers rush defense leads the NFL, yielding only 64 yards per game and a 2.7 yards per rush average.
They suck anyway. Who'd they take? Tyson Alualu... He would have taken his lumps early, allowing them to beef up their line in the draft next year. I just can't discount him having lit up the SEC like he did his whole career. It could be a case of talent (ala Matt Leinardt) and coaching/system (ala Timmy Chang) but I doubt it. The game will slow down for him when he gets enough experience. I think a lot of teams will regret not taking him. I felt the same way about Aaron Rodgers and Drew Brees when he first came out of Purdue.
I’m saying that Tebow would never have developed into a quarterback worthy of the pick if they had drafted him.
Exactly, this idea "..don't take Tebow, he is not ready, take Tyson Alualu instead!!!" Is yet another example of how the NFL does things, at times, is dysfunctional. every sack Cam Wake notches, every first down DBess picks up, is more evidence for that fact.
Well then, the Offense has something to shoot for. BTW Des, of the Steelers 4 wins, the Browns and Bucs included, is the best running team? Atl, TN, Tampa, Ravens, Cleveland, which one of those teams is say Top 10 in the nfl at running the football? TN #5 Atl #7 Clev #22 Balt #15 And I'd say Atlanta's rushing attack is greatly overrated, TN as well, I'd bet Vince Young pads their stats. And that is why we should have some confidence at #14 with our running game..slightly better than the Ravens and vs the pack the Oline finally has come together as witnessed by the GB game.
Yeah, I understand what you are saying, but any QB is worth the pick if they develop into a franchise QB. Neither of us can say either way, we'll just have to stew for a few years.
Sorry, padre. You’re not going to tell me that a healthy Steelers defense with a 100% Troy Polamalu is vulnerable. It just isn’t.
We played the Jets last yr, right about this time of yr, do you recall what their defensive ranking was heading into that game?
You’ll recall that we’ve lost the last two games against the Jets. And the Jets are not as good defensively this year as they were last year. The Steelers are better this year than they were last year, and they beat us in week 17 after knocking Chad Henne and Pat White out of the game.
Wow! After seeing Jones-Drew listless and indifferent on the bench, I wonder who will be the Jags next head coach? BTW-How did they win 3 games to begin with?
Last yr, the Jets were ranked #1 overall in defense heading into that game, they also were 3-1 (?) and we were 1-3. And if one recalls when we played the Steelers at the end of the yr, we were down to Lex Hilliard at Rb, Ricky had worn down and had a bad shoulder, we had no Brandon Marshall, and we had a new G and C, Ronnie Brown was out as well. This game, we are as close to being 100% healthy we will be this season with Ronnie B and Beast in the lineup.
IMO, a more interesting question will be whether or not the Jags get a new GM. A new head coach is a given. Same with Carolina. And we’re still going to lose.
BTW, there is some Stat Monkery, CJ had been shut down most of the night, he just ran for a 40 yd TD, in a 23-3 game and it's "eww lookie CJ had a 100 yd game and a TD!!!!" Fact is, he sucked most of the night and the Jags had struck their colours a half an hour ago. Stat Monkeys...
And you know this..how? I think we win it, I think we out physical the steelers and they are going to be shocked, same way the Jets were last season.
I was trying to make a point about our conduct in that second Jets game last year. We came out with the W, but that defense stifled Henne, and we couldn’t stop Sanchez. Padre is trying to say that because we’ve somehow clobbered the Jets defense repeatedly, we should be fine against the Steelers, but the reality is that we haven’t.
