I agree with this, something ive been writing about since last year, and its something that is coming very slow to him....I think its directly related to that the game has not slowed down completely for him yet, and yet hes playing pretty well at a frantic pace in his mind...The pump fake, shoulder fake, eye manipulation is the greatest sign that the QB is in the moment, and is seeing things at a good pace... For example, This is something that shows me that Sanchez is becoming a good QB. This quote is correct imo... '' It must be no less a revelation for Henne when he studies himself and can understand that he reads the defenses faster, that he play-fakes better, that his drops are faster and crisper in that five-step drops are never four or six steps anymore.''..
I'm going to say this. The skill difference between Henne and Pennington is not Super Bowl. With either of those guys, we have the ability to win 9-10 games. This team will not win a Bowl this year regardless. Do you guys want to just win some regular season games and never make the Super Bowl? What's the point? This team is almost new and in it's first year of cohesion. If you can't see how absolutely insane pulling a QB after 4 games with only 1 bad one, then it's a good thing you're an armchair GM. Matt Moore got pulled because he sucked. Henne followed the game plan in the first two games and that plan was be conservative so no one loses confidence in a loss. In the Jets game, we opened it up and he drove us often but bad calls ended in no scores. He has shown the ability to move the ball but think about it. EVERY DRIVE starts at the 20 or back. Should he drive 80 yards every drive just to score? If he got to the 40, the 35, the 50, that makes things so much easier. The Jets killed us in field position and they got to score.
I agree with you that the offense was tremendous but at the same time the one giving the directions (Henning) has sent them in the wrong direction more than a few times in crucial moments where if they had turned right instead of left they would have been even more tremendous. We all know the plays that I am referring to. Can you imagine if those plays would have been subdued and let the offense continue to gain momentum instead of breaking it. I have no doubt we would have racked up more yards and TD's.
if i ever get my hunter's license, i'm gonna kill the wild cat! lol. its not just the wild cat though. we've had some bone head play calling but for the most part its good. when it happens, its detrimental though.
I can't predict the future but history suggests that Henne will have a very solid next game: http://blogs.sun-sentinel.com/sport...dolphins-how-will-chad-henne-bounce-back.html That info coupled with the fact that we'll be coming off a bye week suggests (dare I say it) that Miami will be the talk of the NFL after pulling off an impressive upset win in Week 6, led by our young, oft maligned, but very capable quarterback.
talk is cheap. we know, as a matter of fact, Pennington can take us to the play-offs & win the AFCE championship in the process. whatever floats your boat...I just want to win games, not make excuses for losing or creating delusional cults around unproven players. anyway we can win is fine with me. rest assured, I will be behind whoever is under center on game day
and then you meet a team like baltimore in the playoffs who play 8 in the box because of penningtons inability to stretch the field, then what happens? disaster
Sorry but i want more then that, Henne has a better chance to deliver it. We all know what Penny can do.
Friend Gitrdone: want more? then join the Cult of the Second-Coming of Marino & be prepared to sacrifice the 2010 season @ its alter. personally, all I want is for every player to play to potential & Miami win games. no more excuses. its time to contend
I would sacrafice this season easily if it meant 3-5 years or more of consistency and good play. No question
what exactly is the cult of the second coming of dan marino because i view it more as the religion of developing a franchise QB. Doesnt have to be Marino. I'll be happy with Bob Griese. Hell I'll be happy with Don Strock
Anyone who isnt in a rush to yank Chad Henne and replace him with Chad Pennington is part of the "Cult of the Second Coming of Dan Marino"
No doubt....as long as this season improved over last...and we saw our foundation being laid for contending not only next season...but for many seasons after that....Ill toast to that result!!!
The problem with the win now idea is that you win now with veteran qb`s for maybe a year or two but you never get the consistency of a franchise qb. However as its been stated ad naseum it takes a few years to know if you have a franchise qb. Its a catch 22 really, but if you take the time you are set long term
Because watching Pennington run to the sidelines with his throwing arm dangling like spaghetti is a preferable alternative.
Penne was 2-4 until the Raiders, Rams, Chiefs, Bills (in Toronto), 49ers, Seahawks & Broncos came along to save our season. Then he threw his skirt up in the playoffs and started 2009 0-3. The revisionist history is getting out of hand my friend.
He beat the cream of the crop to get us where we got. [/sarcasm]. Pennington had the easiest schedule in 2008. When 2009 came around he couldn't do a thing. The guy is a solid QB but if anyone thinks he's going to roll up on the Steelers and start throwing bombs around the field or something and win, then they're delusional.
I seem to recall us having trouble converting 3rd and 6+ when Pennington was the starter, yet we did it like 7/7 times at one point vs the Patriots.
Convenient to ignore the face that every season Penny stayed on the field with the Jets, they went to the playoffs. I guess it was the easy schedule all of those times too. I didn't even read why Pennington came up in this thread but I couldn't just sit here and watch people make bogus arguments that Penny isn't a QB that can take a team to the playoffs.
Convenient that he only started all 16 games once with the Jets as well. We've also made the playoffs every year that Ronnie Brown has played in every game.
wrongwrongwrong. Pennington always makes the playoffs in even years. He would lead the Dolphins to the playoffs without a doubt this year. He will make the Dolphins better this year, yet hinder your team immensely at the same time. It's a catch-22.
I think if we give up on Henne now, he'll never play another down for the Dolphins again. He has to go thru the growing pains and be strong enough to handle the crap times.
This right here is why so many folks disagree with your approach to analyzing football: a) he's only started 17 games (get your facts right) b) It has been proven time and time and time again that it will take even the elite quarterbacks at least 32 to 48 starts to really get into gear. Since your grandmother was into old sayings, perhaps she used this one at some point: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" Henne isn't broken. He's a young quarterback that has performed well, put up solid stats, shows improvement from week to week and year to year...and most importantly has proven that he can win games (winning record and 3 fourth quarter comebacks). So stop looking for a fix to something that isn't broken (and check your facts before you post).
I agree completely. Henne is 100% the man for the near future. I was just facetiously pointing out the catch-22 paradox that is Chad Pennington. He held my team hostage for the better part of the decade. Unfortunately for me, the Dolphins organization is just a little smarter than the Jets were before August 2008.
He only QB'd the Jets to one playoff appearance? That's news to me. I can remember three different times. The problem was staying on the field. That's why we wisely brought him back to be the backup.
I think he's fine enough a QB. The problem is the rest of the team isn't up to par with the Steelers and the other elite teams. Peyton Manning and Tom Brady haven't exclusively exchanged SB's between themselves. Its teams that have focused on filling out the rest of their teams with great talent that do well. Instead of Pennington (vs.) Henne (Henne hands down), the team should've gone out and gotten better players during the off-season/over the past two years.
I have a little different take at this point. It seems, to me anyway, Mr. Ross stepped in at the end of training camp and required the staff to rid the roster of any money guys that weren’t going to start, which effectively made the Dolphins one of the youngest teams in the NFL and created the perfect opportunity for Parcells’ exit. My only hope, at this point is that Mr. Ross doesn’t bring in a new GM and head coach -no matter what happens - because I don’t think I can bear another rebuilding cycle. Pennington or Thigpen for that matter over Henne, are you kidding me?
He's only played every game once with the Jets, and they made the playoffs. So yea, just because you remember him in the playoffs 3 times doesn't mean he stayed on the field in all of those seasons (as was your original statement). His other two times in the playoffs, he led the teams to a 8-4 and 8-5 record respectively. Had he played all 16 games, there is no guarantee the Jets would've made the playoffs those years, just like there is no guarantee Henne wouldn't have led us to the playoffs last year had he got to start the first 3 games. I never said Penny couldn't take a team to the playoffs by the way, I merely had a problem with your original statement being any sort of great point.
