This team can do some damage in the playoffs. If the solid pitching continues, they are going to be a tough team to beat. I'm a big fan and I've been waiting a long time to see them win a World Series. Really hoping this is the year. I need something to take my mind off the current state of the Dolphins.
The only thing worse than losing back to back home divisional games is seeing the Giants in the MLB Playoffs. As a Dodger diehard, I am officially rooting for EVERY OTHER TEAM that is in the postseason. Go CinciNewYorkBaydelphia Braveyankrangerrays!
Very tough loss last night. Just when I thought "Hey, at least one of my teams is doing well." Could have gone up 2-0. Blew a golden opportunity and now the series goes to Atlanta where anything can happen.
Yes! Lets go Giants!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Finish this!!! EDIT: If I don't post again tonight, it means I had a heart attack and died.
This is one hell of a ninth inning. Hey, can you guys get another 3 runs so I can win a parlay? Thanks.
Atlanta will take this series if Bobby Cox is smart enough to bench Brooks Conrad. Edit: I don't actually like their chances anymore, but man he was bad. Having a closer would have been nice as well.
Heh. I follow baseball but don't have a favorite team. But I'm rooting for the Giants. I like their pitching staff.
Anyone see the result of the first series against the Phillies? Giants handed Halladay his first loss of the season, won 5-1. Next game won 6-2. Then lost the 3rd game 7-6 after giving up 3 runs in top of 9th and spoiling Lincecums gem. Was really close to a sweep. The Phillies won 2 of 3 the next time but I don't understand how so many people and "experts" are writing off the Giants this series. They are getting no respect whatsoever and it's going to make them even hungrier.
Because the Phillies are better than the Giants. Both teams have good pitching but the Philthies get the edge b/c they have the best in the business right now. Not to mention their lineup is much more potent offensively than the Giants.
If they were that much better the Giants wouldn't have been within a top of the 9th meltdown away from having the sweep the first series. It's a pretty even matchup. Yes the Phillies have some good hitters but SF has some hitters also. People seem to forget that the Giants have dangerous hitters. Sanchez, Huff, Posey, Sandoval, Uribe, Ross are all guys that can get it done. They are all dangerous. I'm just looking forward to seeing all the experts proved wrong.
And then you realize that the regular season is close to meaningless. I mean the Royals win 60 games every year.
This. Exactly. Who cares what happened in the regular season, compared to the post season is night and day. It means nothing.
Actually it's not meaningless. You act like it was just a scrimmage or something. Halladay faced the Giants earlier in the season and the Giants won 5-1, handing him his first loss of the season. That means absolutely nothing huh? Sorry, it does mean something. I guess you're going to tell me that Halladay wasn't really pitching hard that game. He was 4-0. Whatever, I like how many people are hating on the Giants and acting like they can't compete at all with the Phillies. All the doubt is fueling them even more.
Yes it does mean absolutely nothing. It's one game (way back in April to boot). Just off the top of my head in 2007 the Yankees were I believe 7-0 vs. Cleveland in the regular season and Cleveland beat them up in the ALDS that year. The Rangers beat up Rivera twice this season, in a big spot this series with Rivera on the mound would you bet against him because of two regular season games? I wouldn't. The regular season and post season are different ball games. It has nothing to do with hating on the Giants, I don't care who wins that series to be honest with you. But if you want to hang your hat on 1 game back in April than don't ignore what Halladay has done since then and also his career.
I like being right. Giants Go On Halladay Over the course of the season (and postseason), Roy Halladay has had uncharacteristic struggles against the Giants compared to the rest of the league. vs. Others vs. Giants W-L 22-9 0-2 ERA 2.24 5.79 WHIP 1.00 1.29 HR per 9 IP 0.8 1.9 * Includes regular and postseason -- ESPN Stats & Information
Considering there were only 2 players in the Giants line up for both Halladay games this year (Torres and Huff) and the majority of the damage on Halladay last night came from a player joined the team in June (Burrell) and someone that didn't join the team until August (Ross) while the two players that did Halladay in in April were DeRosa (who hasn't played a game since May) and Eli Whiteside (a bad hitting back up catcher) and in fact, 4 players in last night's game were playing for different teams at the time of that April game and a 5th player (Sanchez was on the DL). So I'm going to say that you're not 'right'. I don't want to take anything away from the Giants win last night but to say the Giants win vs. Halladay in April, when there were 7 completely different hitters in the line up, was the reason for Halladay losing last night is just plain old silly and wrong.
