You arent wrong, every contract is differennt, very rarely is it a total divided by the years avg....it usually is either front or back loaded...

That's what I thought. I believe for the luxury tax the contract total divided by the years is what they use but if you're talking about day to day or year to year operating costs they would simply use the dollar figure they are paying out that year. Like you said that's why no contract is ever the same dollar figure each year as it's usually back loaded as its more benefical for both the team and player (only for his next contract to be making more money in the later years of the contract).

So if Florida was using the year by contract contract value they could have fit both Hanley and Cabrera on the team with Johnson there as well.

Go to either the rotoworld or baseball reference contract site, you will see 95% of them are either increasing or decreasing year to year...

Without more information, going on a per-year average calculation is the best we've got.

Also, it's noteworthy that operating income from 2008 to 2009 decreased by close to the average per-year amount of Hanley and JJ's contracts: $37.8m - $11.1m = $26.7m, versus $22m for Hanley and JJ combined.

Based on incomplete information, I don't see how we keep Cabrera, Hanley, and JJ.

Again, Morrison making me look bad. I hope he find his inner Adrian Gonzalez and starts hitting 35 home runs a season.

    +1.

Seriously though didn't the Nationals trade Lastings Milledge for Morgan because they wanted to get rid of all the clubhouse cancers? My question is what happened with Morgan to seemingly make him snap this past month between this fight, throwing a ball in the stands, yelling at fans, killing a catcher? The guy couldn't have possibly just snapped out of the blue like this.

Logan Morrison got hit with a baseball in the cheek today, but should be ok. He's flying to Philly to play.

This would be awesome for the Marlins, I would want the Yankees to get Pena if Giradi screwed for Chicago this offseason...

According to Joe Frisaro of MLB.com, the Marlins see Yankees bench coach Tony Pena as "a serious candidate" to fill their managerial vacancy.

The Marlins plan to finalize their search after the season and with the Yankees primed for another run at the postseason, it's not clear when or if Pena will be interviewed for the job. Pena, 53, compiled a 198-285 record (.410) in parts of four seasons (2002-05) as manager of the Royals. He was named the American League Manager of the Year in 2003 for leading Kansas City to an 83-79 record. Current interim manager Fredi Gonzalez and Bobby Valentine are also expected to be considered for the position.

Football season and a dead-end Marlins season.

Marlins offseason preview: we look for a reliever and a catcher and we have a contract dispute with an above average player. Just like all the other offseasons.

Should be an exciting off-season....or at least I hope so. Beinfest made it more interesting after his comments about Dominguez being very close.

    My earlier comments still stand.

Dan Uggla is probably gone after a lengthy contract dispute. We’ll need yet another reliever. And maybe a catcher. And maybe a couple of pitchers. Same as all the other offseasons.

I would not be opposed to Bozo the Art Clown selling the team to Columbian coke dealers or Russian mobsters. At least then it would be obvious that the organization is just a front for lining someone’s pockets.

Here is the Marlins short list (without Edwin) for their new manager......

    • Ted Simmons: The Padres’ bench coach is on the Marlins’ short list. He also is a likely candidate for the Mariners and a possible fit for the Brewers, one of his former clubs.
    • Tim Wallach: Bypassed by the Dodgers for Don Mattingly, he is viewed by some as a leading candidate for the Blue Jays. Also on the Marlins’ short list.
    • Bobby Valentine: Still prominent as a candidate for the Marlins and also for the Mets.
    • Jim Fregosi: Candidate for Marlins.
    • Bo Porter, Diamondbacks: On the Marlins’ short list. [IMG]

I thought the Yankees’ third base coach is also a candidate.
