Not sure what you're getting at.....because if we don't open it up last night and throw, we get blown out. You can't play ground and pound when your defense doesn't show up. Are you saying the offensive game plan of throwing the ball more is what cost us this game?

Yep...and the offense went from lethargic to dangerous. We keep this up and it should open up things for the running game. Could be worse pads.....we could have been watching Henning trot Pat White out there once a drive
No Padre, we didnt get what we hoped for. What we hoped for was to be pro active with Henne and open up the offense. To go on the attack when we had a lead, not turtle and look to slowly bore the opposition to death. I knew Henne could play like this..I want to see him throw the ball all over the field..get a big lead and THEN play ball control. Not get a one td lead and bleed it
The Jets trotted out their Pat White, Brad Smith. And that is the problem with the Wildcat in a nutshell, the Jets found a Wr/Qb/Kr, we are still using personnel from 2008, the White pick essentially stunted the growth of the Wildcat. If they had really bought into it, the Qb Webb from UAB would have been ideal, but we used that 6th rd pick on a guy they cut...
The Pat White pick didn't stunt the WC's growth, it killed it...... not evolving this formation can be directly attributed to the resources and time wasted on Pat White and his "little package". And how on earth can you say "if they had bought into it"?...... they wasted a #2 pick and all kinds of time finding out they drafted a guy that doesn't fit in the WC. It wasn't their commitment....it was the mistakes they made.
Simply because White busted if they really bought into the WC Concept they could have easily found someone else to run the package, that is why I pointed to Joe Webb of UAB who went late in the draft. Instead, they are trying to make do with 08 packages and the NFL has caught up to that concept, this is a case of throwing the baby out with the bath water. White didn't work, fine, but you still have to add other elements to the WC package, which the Jets have done in Brad Smith. And guess what, it works really well.
Or.......you can just let it go because we don't need a crutch anymore. With Brandon Marshall on this team and an arm like Henne's, it makes more sense to just push the ball down field and soften up the defense. Oh and this new defense is clueless defending the WC...... we made Brad Smith look better than he should.
Because the Jets were using that package as a crutch..... just as we did. A badly needed supplement to their offense. The question is..... do we still need a crutch or should we focus those resources somewhere else?
I don't think it's a crutch. It's another package of the playbook and it has been proven to work well in the past. I think what many are forgetting is it comes down to blocking. We weren't run blocking very well out of base run formations. If you aren't run blocking, the wildcat won't work either. The problem wasn't the wildcat, it was the blocking. The Jets have one of the best front 7's in football, though. At some point you have to acknowledge it isn't the playcall as much as it is your opposition.
Crutch? That is one of the silliest statements I've seen you type js. Looked like a TD to me, looked like Smith picked up a first down on 3rd and 15, that is known as "effective offense".
Yeah Brandon Marshall isnt a beast at all, neither is Boldin or Moss. How is your "Henne is the same as Edwards" analysis holding up?
When Henne gets protection he can be great, however I STICK by my analysis that he has absolutely no feel for the rush. Especially when it comes off his blind side. Now luckily he has Jake Long protecting that side, so his flaw is limited. However when you do see that pressure he just doesnt seem to feel it. He drops straight back and lets the edge rush get to him every time. When the pressure comes from the right he doesn't really slide in the pocket to buy more time as often as he could either. Obviously you are going to take sacks, but Henne really could work a LOT on his pocket presence. Especially since we know he can throw when he roles out, hes shown it on designed plays.
He has had Long for six years and been sacked by Longs guy like three times in his career...he never had to develop blindside awareness and he might not ever have to.
