Why I'm confident that the Dolphins will beat the Jets by at least two scores

    Two words: Kris Jenkins

Few people understand just how important the Jets' nose tackle was in terms of anchoring their run defense. It was a huge loss for them when he went out in Week 1 with a torn ACL, just as it was last year, when he went out in Week 6 (also with a torn ACL). Their run defense instantaneously went from elite to above average at best.

    Now here's the kicker:

Last year, when we played the Jets at home in Week 5, we rushed for 151 yards.

And that was before Kris Jenkins went out for the season

Granted, they shut our running game down effectively when we played them again in NY later in the season, but I am convinced that Miami's running game will be charged up by the home crowd on Sunday night.

If that happens, and Henne continues to manage the game effectively (or repeat his 241 yard, 2 TD performance from last year) and the defense continues to play at the ridiculous level they have been thus far, Miami could be in a position to blow the Jets out on Sunday night.

Not saying that it will be a blowout, but with Jenkins out, I'm convinced that our running game will put us in a great position to win.

I have a very high opinion of him, he scares me to death...lol...dominating alpha male that lead that team.huge loss Hugo.

Its one reason why I keep saying we don't need to open up anything offensively, we can beat this team strait up baby...It's what we've been trained to do.

The team didn't skip a beat last year when he went down, nor will they this year. It's a fact.

The Jets are only allowing 1.8 ypc on the ground right now. Pouha is one of the more underrated players in the league.

i think the jets will over compensate on their rush defense up the middle with 2 lb's and open up the middle of the field for us to have a field day with short passes, than when they bring their safety's up a little closer we'll see a couple of bombs to Brandon Marshall.

John Jerry could be out too. The Rookie has been outstanding and I'm not even sure who the back up is. I'm interested in seeing if the Dolphins can run in the middle on the Jets. If they can it's hard to see them losing. If not, Henne has to play well.

I concur. Not only did the team not skip a beat, but it is amazing how creative blitzing can mask deficiencies. A core strength of the Jets defense is their blitzes and that will be something to overcome. It is evident that the Apprentice wants to become the Master i.e. Rex and Nolan. Overcoming this for both sides will be key.

Kris Jenkins does not matter. We have proven that fact already.

I will not shy away from making the comment neither. Barring brain farts all over the field, this will be a blow out for the Dolphins.

The Jets are frauds. I watched the Patriots/Jets game. The Patriots are not who you think they are. For lack of a better example, they are the late 80's Dolphins. They pad the stats on offense with an awesome quarterback but they have NO DEFENSE AT ALL. The Patriots attempted to run the ball for ONE QUARTER. They possessed the ball for 13 minutes of that 1st quarter utilizing a fullback and a TE. Then for some unknown reason they went spread for the remainder of the game........and they could not score.

There is no victim named Darius Butler on the Dolphins and I was right about Brandon Spikes. He looks WORSE than Channing Crowder on an NFL field. Spikes is super slow. As a matter of fact, I left that game with the impression of the entire team was slow.

The offense is OLD and slow. They may look faster with Faulk now out.

The defense is slow because the genius Bellichek thinks he can get kids to do what he got veterans to do. People forget that the nucleus of the winning Patriots defense was their linebackers. He combined them with Rodney Harrison and they had a deadly combination. Those dudes are gone and the Patriots have not been worth a crap since that era.

So while all the commentators are on the jock of the Jets this week, I'm thinking "frauds". I'm thinking frauds because they built a one week reputation against Dan Marino's 1991 Miami Dolphins. The Jets will be exposed Sunday night. You can bank on it.

jets arent stupid, rex ryan....despite the **** he gets from us and the league, is a fantastic defensive coach. You know how hes gunna try to beat us sunday?

    STOP.

    THE.

    RUN.

Make henne beat you. if he does, so be it. but he will refuse to be pushed around by ronnie/ricky again. Run blitzes will be big....the good thing is we have brandon marshall. big home game, first home game for him, against the jets, henne and bmarsh will need to be on the same page when it comes to hot routes, and getting rid of the ball quickly if henne is being pressured.

Keep them on their heels with a few big passes, and we can run all day.

gunna be a good game. a GREAT game....i cannot wait

Henne better not overthrow Marshall at the 3 yard line again. I agree, Rex is not stupid...He will pick his poison: 1) a largely proven run game or 2) a largely unproven QB. It is logical and our job to execute the run regardless.

1.8 ypc is a good stat considering 1 of the 2 teams those stats are from had Ray Rice running the ball.

I think it will be i tight fight all night.

Hmmmm...I always felt TWO scores was 9 pts. A two score lead would result in needing two possessions to tie or surpass.

by your logic two scores could be two safetys as well....but any time a TD with 2 pt conversion (8pts) could pass or tie you, then you aren't up by two scores in my vocabulary. Could be wrong...but if you cant tie a game with one possession....you are up two scores.

so here is to a 9pt lead and victory:hi5:

It's going to be hard to respond to everyone but here goes:

-To the guys saying that the Jets don't skip a beat without Jenkins, that's hard to justify considering that they gave up 100+ yards rushing in 5 of 7 games after he went down last year. And this year, while stopping Ray Rice was a nice accomplishment (though he and his O-line aren't nearly as effective as they were a year ago) stopping the Patriots' rushing game isn't any kind of an endorsement.

This week, they will be going up against arguably the best rushing attack in the entire NFL on their home turf; an attack that absolutely gashed them for 151 rushing yards the last time they played in Miami with Jenkins in the lineup.

Even if the Samoan backup is a good player, he's going to get worn down, just like Jenkins was worn down last year, so simply not having the depth to rotate at that position is going to hurt the Jets. Therefore, I believe that Miami is going to rack up insane amounts of yardage particularly in the second half of the game, as the Jets interior line gets overwhelmed by the South Florida humidity and the relentless run-oriented offensive line and three of the toughest runners in the league (Brown, Williams, and Polite).

Could I be wrong? Sure. But I doubt it. And therefore, I feel confident that Miami will win by two scores (and yes, I mean "possessions" for those of you that like to get cute with definitions).

Also, Frags, you do realize that while Henne missed Marshall on the three yard throw he did connect with him on a 47-yard throw that was right on the money and then threw a beautiful pass in the back of the endzone to Hartline to punctuate that same drive? So I ask you, why are you hung up on the lone mistake Henne made on that drive. It didn't amount to a hill of beans in the end.

This is the stupidest thread I have seen thus far. Our defense actually got BETTER last year after Jenkins went down. Our Run defense improved. How? I don't know. Sione Pouha and Mike DeVito stepped up.

It's only two games but opposing teams are averaging 1.8 YPC on us. Jets fans are not shocked Jenkins is hurt. It happens to us all the time.

This is the stupidest post ive ever seen...This post does a poor job of conceptualizing the loss of a truly great player, the homer goggles need to be wiped off kid..

To actually act and somehow justify to yourself, like your as good, without Kris Jenkins is homerism 101..

next your gonna tell me that your secondary is fine without revis because cromartie and the rook have stepped up....lol

see, what the poster is doing here and why the chest of the poster is so swelled up, is because he know's he has injuries, and that's a built in excuse..

Are you drunk? The Jets did NOT skip a single beat last year when he went down and we're not going to miss him this year. He's always hurt. We're used to it. Six plays into the season he tears his ****ing ACL.

Like Rex said, we don't make excuses. Not one time last year did we have all of our defensive starters, yet we ranked #1 on defense and went further than the Miami Dolphins.

Too early in the season to make any bold predictions.

However I do like our matchups with the Jets, their one real problem matchup player is Dustin Keller and maybe LT as no one really knows if he is really returned to form, or if he took advantage of a poor Pastriots defense.

    Starks on:

    Slausen/Mangold with a bum shoulder

    Wake on Woody or Ferguson
    Misi on Woody or Ferguson

But especially Wake on Woody, the Vikes have a All Pro LT that Wake made look silly in the metrodome, and Misi was consistently working the massive Phil Loahdolt.

I also like the de facto trade of PK Jay Feeley for Jason Taylor as Nick Folk can be wildly inaccurate.

I further like the fact the Jets shed Leon Washington for I do not know who as their Kick Returner, because Joe McKnight looks like a bust since Day 1 of Training Camp when he failed the conditioning test, an All Pro Returner for "some guy" is a Trade Off that helps us.

Toss in Jason Taylor is being overused and playing with a bad elbow, and we have some favorable matchups.

    But a two score win?

Nah, not in a Divisional Game on National TV at night.

Don't underestimate the Jets front 7 or overall D even without Jenkins and Revis.

And, if John Jerry is out or, likely, weakened by his illness - that will be a blow to the Dolphins interior OL.

I hate injuries. I am fine being able to face teams who have a player out (like Revis). But, personally, I'd rather see both teams fully healthy and match up our best against their best and see who wins.

I would not say I am hung up on it to the extent you may think, despite what the text may have made you think...I concur, 46 yd bomb and a back of the endzone toss to Marshall and Hartline respectively are nothing to sneer at. Reason I brought up that throw was that Marshall was wide open, but Henne did not execute the play. P. Manning, for example, executes all his plays including the "easy" ones when comparing it to a bomb/back of the end zone toss. For Henne to get better he needs to take advantage of A: what the defense gives him as the proverbial saying goes and B: the wide open looks. If we settled for a field goal, there would be more discussion on this topic, me thinks. Nonetheless, beautiful throw to Hartline; they are both coming along well.

There's no doubt that Henne can improve, but to say that Manning "executes all his plays" is simply not accurate. You don't watch every snap of every Colts game (neither do I) but I can guarantee you that he does miss easy throws from time to time. All quarterbacks do.

Moreover, Manning is arguably the greatest quarterback of all time, so even if Henne never reaches his level he can still become a franchise quarterback capable of bringing the Lombardi trophy back to Miami.

Honestly the funniest thing to me was after the Jets and Rex claimed our wildcat was a gimmick. The rest of year (and this year) they use it all the time, and when they play us the second time they run two fake punts!!

"executes all his plays" is obviously a gross exaggeration and therefore my mistake for doing so on a forum. Correct, no QB is perfect including P.Manning. Nonetheless, the statement was meant to differentiate a QB who is known to execute the vast majority of his plays (I watch quite a few Colts games up here in NE as they are usually televised but for the Patriots). I would be hard pressed to find a play such as that one that P.Manning overthrows. However, the point of that comparison was not to place Henne in a comparison between one of the greatest QBs of all time as you put it, but rather to shed light on the fact that one becomes an upper echelon QB, such as P.Manning, by executing open looks. I am not trying to argue Henne should be this or Henne should be that...simply put he cannot f&*k up on open looks and expect to always get them on 3rd and goal. Lastly, I am happy with Henne's development and do agree that he need not be P.Manning for us to be successful; the fact that he threw that pass to Hartline is sufficient to show that he is on his way.

Does two scores count as 8 points? Or is that just one score?

    I am confused.
