A source tells Craig Calcaterra of NBCSports.com that Alex Rodriguez has fired agent Scott Boras and is now being represented by Pittsburgh attorney Jay Reisinger.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today had it first this morning, however the story mysteriously disappeared from the website. According to Calcaterra, Rodriguez fired Boras about a month ago, ending a working relationship dating back to when he was selected by the Mariners as the No. 1 overall pick in 1993. Reisinger's name may sound familiar because he has actually represented Rodriguez as his attorney for quite some time now. Locked up through 2017, Rodriguez obviously has other priorities to think about at this point of his career.

You are right, A-Rod canned him, and then brought him back to finish the perk related part of his deal with NY, after he negotiated the dollar figure himself after the opt-out....remember the whole Steinbrenner wanting him to come back and "show he really wanted to be a Yankee" stuff...

I think Boras has been on the outs with him since then...and from Boras POV whatever, he made his money.....

Exactly and it's not like any of this really matters since Arod will be 42 when his Yankee deal expires. Like you said Boras did his job and made his money. The only thing I will say is that it just shows you the type of person Arod is, that he wrote a letter to Boras instead of calling him up or talking to him face to face about the firing. I mean after all Boras did help him get half a billion dollars. But maybe it's just me and maybe how I would have done things.

Well to be fair I don't know what the proper protocol is for athletes and agents are. Maybe a letter is the 'right way' to do it. Personally I would have the common courtesy to call or meet the guy face to face. It's not really a big deal either way, I just found it interesting.

Congrats to Arod 100 RBI! Just re-watched last year's game where he hit 7 RBI's in 1 inning to get 100 RBI's on the last game of the seasosn. That has to be one of the most impressive things i ever seen.

Figured I'd pass this along since it's been a slow week, this is a note from Keith Law's blog at ESPN (who I personally love and think is one of the best writers/scouts around) on Austin Romine:

troubles catching appear to be season-long -- he can throw, but his hands are just not soft enough for him to catch, and he struggled with above-average velocity for the second night in a row. With J.R. Murphy and especially Gary Sanchez storming up behind him, I think Romine is going to get squeezed out of that "catcher of the future" bucket in a hurry.

    Feel free to discuss.

thats the way it is going to be in the playoffs too...a good pitcher is easily going to silence this team....where are you Matsui?!?!?!

Putting up a .268/.358/.447 line in LA, not sure even he could have helped last night with the way Price was dealing.

Right now I'd be surprised if the Yankees made it far in the playoffs. They just look like a beat up team right now. Of course things can change in a week in baseball but Pettitte is going to be the key to the season in my opinion.

2 for 2 my friend. (3 for 3 including the reality of Matsui....or Damon, etc......our moves are for the best short and long term)

Captain has to snap out of his SEASON long funk.....its not fun to watch right now.

We are beat up, not the same depth and production from the bats.

Not the same depth and production from Arms, but if Pettitte returns we have a better shot for sure

Right, I meant to say post season obviously. I do think Matsui or Damon's numbers would be better playing 82 games at Yankee Stadium instead of in LAA or Detroit but I can't argue with the Yankees not resigning either, especially Damon who always plays the victim in these contract extension talks yet wanted more money.

Good point about Jeter, he's been terrible this year and really looks old, tired and beat up to me. Maybe he's hiding an injury or something but his bat is slow and if you watch him on defense he lost all the range he got back last year. He's really hurting the team batting 1st or 2nd. He'd be better suited batting 8th or 9th right now. I know it sounds crazy but Gardner and Swisher should bat 1 and 2 when everyone is healthy. I understand everything Jeter has done for the franchise and in the post season and I know there's zero chance he ever gets moved in the line up but it might be something for them to consider.

It brings up another point though, that his Yankee team might be finally starting to show it's age. Jeter, Posada and Arod's production have all slipped this year along with various nagging injuries. Pettitte although he's pitched great this year is having trouble staying healthy himself. The Yankees are going to resign Jeter to at least a 3 year deal (for how much is a non issue) but with Jeter, Arod and Posada signed for awhile that DH spot might soon start to get a bit crowded.

I guess it's a slow media day when the talk in sports is Jeter faking getting hit by a pitch. Why is this even worth talking about or even a story? I really don't get it. I'm just thankful it wasn't Arod or the internet and radio lines might have been shut down due to too much activity.

I just hope we get this type of play (pitching woes and hitting woes) out of system soon.....what's sadly obvious, our woes are against playoff caliber teams...thats not a good sign.

While it's hard to be put stock in the last 6 games for many reasons, I don't think the Yankees will get past a healthy Rays or Rangers team in the playoffs right now. But it's all about getting hot at the right time and going on a run and the Yankees certainly have the star power to do just that.

we arent getting killed in these games. i'm not sure what the number is but most of these losses seem to be by one run. that basically shows that we played them to a draw and they got the lucky breaks. i'm not worried about being overwhelmed by anybody. i think the bottom line is we just dont have that gap between our talent level and the rest of the teams. we'll have to fight for every victory.

Ok, I went to the game last night and saw CC get his 20th...and Andy went 6 innings today....

so all in all....even vs. BAL (which has improved under Buck) we are turning things around.

but then of course, Mo can always blow a save.....bummer....oh well.

so, regular season starts in a week. our preseason performance isnt that great. i really dont wannt to face minnesota out of the gate. i think if we can skip them for one round it will buy us enough time to hopefully get back in a groove. sabbathia is money. i have no doubt about him but everyone else is a question mark at this point

If I'm the Yankees I'm hoping to face the Twins due to the Yankees struggles with LHPers. They would face Cliff Lee and CJ Wilson right out of the gate and possibly 4 out of the 5 potential games. With Minnesota all they have is Liriano as a real ace threat followed by Pavano. Plus the Twins line up is weaker, especially without Morneau (although a Ranger line up with out Hamilton is weaker as well but at least the Rangers have hope he'll be back in time).

I agree, I would rather face the Twins, everyday allday...I like the CC v Liri matchup, then either Hughes/Pet v Pavano...who goes game 3 for them Slowey??

Although I am hearing CC Game 1, and on 3 days rest on Game 4, and that would leave Andy on full days rest if there was a Game 5...I'd take that.....so

    GM1-CC
    GM2-Andy
    GM3-Hughes
    GM4-CC (on 3 days rest)
    GM5-Andy (full days rest)

I like our chances if thats the case...

I think the Twins would throw Duensing in Game 3 since he's LHP and he's been pitching well lately.

But yes I think the Yankees will and should go with a 3 man rotation in Round 1.

I'd be surprised if Vazquez is on the roster too, however what are the other options? Is Gaudin, Mosely, Nova or Mirte better? The Yankees are pretty short on effective pitchers right now. Burnett will probably make the roster though as a long man and call me crazy but Burnett coming out of the bullpen to pitch 1 inning in the ALDS is very interesting if he could handle it.

Locks for the pitching roster are Sabathia, Pettitte, Hughes, Burnett, Rivera, Wood, Chamberlain, Logan and Robertson. So that's 9 right there. Usually teams only take 11 guys so that leaves 2 spots open for Mosely, Nova, Mirte, Vazquez, Ring, Albaladejo or Gaudin. I bet one or both of Mosely/Mirte makes it but a possible dark horse is Royce Ring because he's a LHP.

In playoffs, I dont believe we have ever lost to TWINS? Or TEX? are either a major superstitious concern?

Yanks concern me regardless this post season, that said, aside from the LH starter issues, playoffs are always different animal...especially short series.

Clearly team to beat is PHILLIES with their rotation....so whether Twins, Tex, or even TB, eventually Yanks have their hands full just to see about a rematch vs PHI.

Yeah that's correct neither Texas or the Twins have been able to touch the Yankees in the playoffs in the past. Of course the past performances have little to zero affect on the teams this year as anything can happen in a short series.

I am listening to Mike Francesa and he sounds worried abut the Yanks. They have played under .500 ball for the last 50 games they've played. Maybe the Rangers or Twins can go beyond the first round? Nahhhhh, they always choke. I want a Phillies'-Yankees repeat.....it would be fitting since they played in the 1950 World Series. Only this time the Phillies win it.
